I think that Carmen Miranda looks like Lupe Velez in this clip. It's sad that Lupe ended her own life because she thought that her career was over because there's no reason why she couldn't have done what the great Carmen Miranda did with using her Latina sex appeal as a gimmick for musical numbers.
2:39 YouTube video of Carmen Miranda singing "I like you very Much" (Uma noite no Rio)
February 9, 1909: birth of Carmen Miranda, Brazilian actress (d. 1955); noted for her signature fruit hat outfit she wore in the 1943 movie The Gang's All Here.
I heard this one from Dad's Army, when Private Walker sing it while shaking a bottle, in the episode "Keep Young and Beautiful", from then on I was trying to track this song...
@prisonerfan : indeed! I just realized that the floor she's dancing on is just like the giant chess floor in the "Checkmate" episode of The Prisoner :)
@prisonerfan : After having a look at the english lyrics of the song I see some suspicious references to what happens in Fall Out moments after NumberOne is defeated, and right after Rover disappears and the Rocket lifts off:
"i think your're grand"
"You are too too too too too divine"
"I like your lips and i like your eyes
Do you like my lips to hypnotize you?" (#2 said at some point: "You're no longer hypnotizing me")
That's you for me" (NumberOne watching through a big "Eye" on the rocket (also seen many times during the series) - now it's NumberSix watching since he's the one in charge after NumberOne is defeated)...
What an incredible singer love this song she really does show how much fun she has while singing it R.I.P Carmen Miranda she went far to young but her songs live on.
instead of a portuguese or a brazilian accent, she does a mexican or a spanish speaking person's accent. americans thought then and still think that brazilians speak spanish and still call us hispanics. We don't have anything against hispanics but we like to make sure taht we are LUSO BRASILEIROS.
I know what you mean. Back then Hollywood seem to only use filipino actors for WW II movies and nothing else unless they were a servant. They used japanese actors for chinese roles and vice versa. They still do it today-look at "Memoirs of a Geisha".
You're gladly welcome my freind. You know, I was just watching on cable "Back to Bataan," a WW II picture set in the Philippines and they had a Spanish actress(I hope I'm politically correct), playing a filipino woman and her accent was totally mixed up-it was a mix of filipino and mexican. Jesus!!!
Sure, they had Carmen play a Cubana, Argentinian, you name it. My mom's from Honduras and my Chicano friends in LA used to think I was putting on airs if I said I wasn't Mexican. I'd say no offense, but I'm really not Mexican!
Tee hee! To cute!

Great number! Miranda would reprise it later on in 1948's A Date With Judy, also in Technicolor.
