Cats do that when there's a trespasser. They'll lash out at anything, including one another. They're not "play fighting", as saminiky says. They're lashing out. They'll lash out at their people sometimes, too.
i have two cats and when there are alley cats outside fighting meep gets all freaked out and if mango is right there she will attack mango even though they are best buds, lol just a cat thing.

This is so funny. I just brought home a 6 week old Brittany Spaniel today named Apollo. My 3 year old tuxedo cat, Tsukiyomi, hates his guts. Apollo was asleep 3 times today and each time Omi walked up to him and started hissing at him for no good reason. I thought the sun and moon were supposed to complement each other, but I guess I was wrong.

I think this is an example of a fairly common characteristic of cats. If a cat sees something he wants to attack but can't get to it because of a glass door or window he will attack another animal or even a person nearby instead. Some sort of mssplaced aggression I guess.

Everything worked out fine. We asked the foster family of this dog if he was good with cats, and we integrated him slowly, keeping them in separate parts of the house for several weeks. The cats still weren't very happy about his moving in, but they just couldn't see that he was going to leave, so they don't mind him now, and even share a bed with him now and then.

Mine had an attitude with my brother-in-law's little dog, Indie. When we showed them to each other, one person holding the cat and one the dog, the kitty hissed and swatted at the dog.
Reminds me of when I brought my dog home as a puppy; we only had one cat at the time, a siamese mix. He was in my room, we brought the puppy in and he had an instant bottle brush for a tail. Let's just say that the outcome was Kitty: 1 Puppy: 0. And my dog STILL has a scar on her nose from the first time she met Moose.

yeah when a cat gets into Attack mode, it will attack almost anything friend or foe if you provoke it, of even go near it when its in that wild state lol. Trust me i know. I love cats, but that is something you just gotta live with. When they are in KILL mode, do NOT show your face!

I like dogs because they're peaceful and nica and can be trained.
We kept them in separate rooms for a couple of weeks. Then we introduced them for a couple of weeks, but they slept in diff. rooms. After that, there was some hissing and avoiding, but things went pretty well. Toby was a little afraid of the cats' attitude. Now they even sleep on the same bed. I'd give it about 6-8 weeks. Actually, now there's some chasing going on, but I think it's just play and only for a few feet.
The black cat hates the dog but the other cat looks like is protecting the dog like "its my friend!hey do you meow some bad about my dogfriend?You i punch you!"or something like that.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It's a good idea to find out about the dog before you bring him home. We got history of our dog from the foster family (got him from a rescue group), so we knew he was good with cats. Keep them in separate rooms the first month. Then try introducing them in neutral territory for short periods each day. If your dog is prey driven, you might have a problem. Give the cat plenty of places to hide. Hopefully they will work it out. Good luck.
I agree cero, as I have six cats and I wouldn't bring anything but a PUPPY into our family, if we were to get a dog, so I wouldn't upset the cats. A puppy thinks he's a cat if he's raised with them when he is small. I'm glad this own was responsible and slowly introduced them over 6-8 weeks.

Yes, our pets seem to have reached a truce since their first meeting. Although Rena, our siamese has passed on, the other two cats can be found sleeping on our bed with Toby during the day.
The cats probably don't hate each other. When cats see an animal that threatens them, they attack anything that happens to be nearby, including animals they're usually comfortable with.
I'm happy to report that our pets have adjusted to each other. They even share the bed while we're out of the house. We checked the dog's history before bringing him home, and he's been a great dog for us.
If you treat a cat and a dog well they will become friends, because they will figure out that there is no reason for competition and they share a mutual interest.
A dogs relation to men is determined by loyalty to the leader of the pack and a cats relation to men on trust and friendship.
Both NOT to be abused.
When that happens they will feel save and live in harmony.
Thanks for the inspirational message. We chose the dog carefully, and he is good with cats. Since this video was shot, almost 2 years ago, I have found him sharing the bed with our two cats. It's a heart warming sight.
Actually dogs and cats can't live with each other (at first) due to communication ;p Eg: when a dog is wagging its tail it means its happy but when a cat does that its unhappy. :p Sooner or later they will get used to each other and learn the other's language ;p
No, the one cat is all frazzled because he can't get to the dog, so he forgets he likes the other cat and attacks it. I once picked up my cat in the middle of a cat fight because I thought he would understand that I was helping him by rescuing him. He tore my arm to shreds. But it was displaced fury, not really anger at me.

Zoe is the tuxedo, and Rena is the siamese. Unfortunately, we lost Rena about a month after we got Toby, the dog. She had kidney disease and had been on K/D food for over a year. We miss her so much, and I hope to put some more video of her up soon. We had Toby sleeping in his own room for a couple of months. The cats have adjusted, and he's a beloved member of the family. We're bringing in a dog (more for my sake, though), and I don't know how to help them get along without killing each other. I don't know the dog well (he's from a shelter) but he seems gentle. They're both about 5. Advice?

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It's a good idea to find out about the dog before you bring him home. We got history of our dog from the foster family (got him from a rescue group), so we knew he was good with cats. Keep them in separate rooms the first month. Then try introducing them in neutral territory for short periods each day. If your dog is prey driven, you might have a problem. Give the cat plenty of places to hide. Hopefully they will work it out. Good luck.

I agree cero, as I have six cats and I wouldn't bring anything but a PUPPY into our family, if we were to get a dog, so I wouldn't upset the cats. A puppy thinks he's a cat if he's raised with them when he is small. I'm glad this own was responsible and slowly introduced them over 6-8 weeks.

Yes, our pets seem to have reached a truce since their first meeting. Although Rena, our siamese has passed on, the other two cats can be found sleeping on our bed with Toby during the day.

The cats probably don't hate each other. When cats see an animal that threatens them, they attack anything that happens to be nearby, including animals they're usually comfortable with.

We had a lovely Leonberger dog and his best friend was our cat.
Joris the cat is still alive (16), but Bas the dog passed away 2 yrs ago.
Joris still refuses to sleep anywhere else than the basket and the blanket he once shared with his friend.

I'm happy to report that our pets have adjusted to each other. They even share the bed while we're out of the house. We checked the dog's history before bringing him home, and he's been a great dog for us.

If you treat a cat and a dog well they will become friends, because they will figure out that there is no reason for competition and they share a mutual interest.
A dogs relation to men is determined by loyalty to the leader of the pack and a cats relation to men on trust and friendship.

Thanks for the inspirational message. We chose the dog carefully, and he is good with cats. Since this video was shot, almost 2 years ago, I have found him sharing the bed with our two cats. It's a heart warming sight.

Actually dogs and cats can't live with each other (at first) due to communication ;p Eg: when a dog is wagging its tail it means its happy but when a cat does that its unhappy. :p Sooner or later they will get used to each other and learn the other's language ;p

No, the one cat is all frazzled because he can't get to the dog, so he forgets he likes the other cat and attacks it. I once picked up my cat in the middle of a cat fight because I thought he would understand that I was helping him by rescuing him. He tore my arm to shreds. But it was displaced fury, not really anger at me.

Zoe is the tuxedo, and Rena is the siamese. Unfortunately, we lost Rena about a month after we got Toby, the dog. She had kidney disease and had been on K/D food for over a year. We miss her so much, and I hope to put some more video of her up soon. We had Toby sleeping in his own room for a couple of months. The cats have adjusted, and he's a beloved member of the family. Thanks for watching!
