I'm looking at all 4 of these glasses sitting on top of my desk right now, haha. I collect all this shit, also have all the Burger King Lord of the Rings glasses when Fellowship of the Ring was released.
@katanaburner That depends on your definition of "worth something". If he meant that they would be so heavily produced that they would be worth nearly what he paid for them, then yeah, your brother was a genius. (overinflated greedy Buy It Now auctions aside).
@dukeofcrydee The only ones that are worth anything are the plastic cups sold in Massachusetts. There was some law back then prohibiting glass in fast food promotions, so all cups were plastic, I once saw an ebay auction with a complete set of 4 go for as much as 70 USD.
@trans8010 Thanks for this, I never heard of that and did a little research. I'll be damned but it's true! Star Wars collecting is so huge, there's always something to learn. Wish I could find pics of them.
My dad had one of these and apparently I broke it when I was a wee lad. Everytime I bring it up he just glazes over..I'm pretty sure he's suppressing the urge to snap my neck.
@dukeofcrydee Yeah, but he's not exactly appetizing. A good glass for someone who wants to lose weight. Every time they make a move for their beverage, one look at Jabba and they automatically lose interest in finishing their meal- partly because he's revolting, partly because his bloated appearance serves as a warning of what they may become if they keep scarfing down burgers. Ewoks on the other hand are appetizing. I wanted to eat an ewok as a kid. I still do. They look so delicious!
MAN! I think I had ALL of these, and my stinkin' family broke them one at a time! I might still have that "Han Solo" one in my room somewhere, packed away. I need to get these back off Ebay eventually.
@dukeofcrydee I wonder how many of those on Ebay were actually used by kids and how many were put away by adult collectors. Mine went into the sink to be washed in hot water and promptly shattered.
I have one of the glasses at my mom's house and i believe i did saw this movie when i was 2 years old when it came out as my big brother did saw this movie 3 times in theaters when it came out and got a few of the glasses.
I actually have 2 of those. The Ewok glass & the Han Solo glass.
The Ewok one has a chip in it. The Han Solo glass hasn't been touched. My parents put it in a safe back in 1986. I only found out about it 2 years ago. when they told me...I said "Put that mother BACK in the safe!" and there it'll stay. until the time is right.
As for this commercial...reminds me of my childhood. Long live the 80's!!!!
@neoanakinpotter Those glasses held up. We had the Jabba one when I was a kid and it was used all of the time, put through the dishwasher and was still around when I was in high school, still in great shape but I think it ended up in a garage sale or something. Ah well.
You didnt get the glass for just the price of the drink. If you bought a drink you could then purchase the glass for its own price. Think it was only a couple bucks though.
Haha, ok so the original franchise was sponsored by Coca-Cola and the recent prequels were sponsored by Pepsi. Maybe if the prequels were also sponsored by Coca-Cola or were re-released as a Special Edition sponsored by Coke now, people would have a better response to the entire franchise. =P
Great, I watched another commercial at like 12:57 AM when I should be sleeping. But anyway, That's really cool that Burger King would give away cool glasses with a soda. Dang, Sometimes one wishes they had a time machine to see things. Doggone it, I'm in the 80s nostalgia zone and I wasn't born until 1991! I really should get to sleep... NOW....
What a great 1983 Burger King Return of the Jedi Burger King Glass Commercial.
And its a treasure you could find it on the theft stores and antiques stores as your Star Wars treasure collations for your bring back the classics for our memoirs!
Having watched the video a couple more times, I think I may have figured out what the Space Station is. Is it the floating structure with the Burger King logo seen at the end of the commercial?
the star wars christmas special introduced us to boba fett before the empire strikes back came out G..so, uh..dont knock it lol...the wookie family was a bit much especially the grandma wookie lol
I saw them at an atbique shop for a reasonable price but certainly more than they were worth 25 years ago. I actually remember when these came out. I had the one with Luke and the Emperor - or as we called him back then, "that wrinkley faced man"
