He claimed he could impart life and that he was interested in Padame's health, which at the end of the Movie it was shown he really wasn't he just wanted to use that lure Anakin to his side.

@boycraz2 he lied because he told anakin/vader that he killed padme, but he didnt she just lost the will to live
