  • choclate milk!!

  • GOOD VIDEO EXAMPLE OF EROSION IN ACTION

but water is shalow perhaps 2m.

    Like to know ?

What will erosion with huge 12m tides be

if channeled into old sanded up dry paleo rivers on NW Australia

  • we were at ponchos that day! Crazy! we were under the overhang...water rose so fast, trees going by, boulders coming off the cliffs and a snake falling off the overhang into camp!

    Mainers on the Colorado

  • that is awesome footage.

  • land slide?

  • What was the coming out the side of the canyon???

  • Yes, that's the waterfall from Deer Creek into the Colorado River. Like the title says it's a flash flood so there's a lot more volume of water than usual. So not really out of the side of the canyon, but out of a smaller canyon made by Deer Creek.

  • I think I was on the river during that time

One day the river was the color of tar and smelt like peet moss.

  • Awesome footage. I was there in November of 2007 and the trail was still fine. We also viewed several pictos in the canyon as well - so the flood may not have erased them... This one of those cases of being in the right place at the right time to view awesome nature...

  • But did you see the handprints? As I recall they were near the mouth of the Canyon.

I can't imagine they weren't washed off with that big a flood. They weren't that noticeable to begin with.

  • just got off the canyon. handprints are still there.

  • Right were everyone parks. WOW!

  • okay, this was the bottom of the Grand Canyon. No one parks there. Also not sure what bench you are talking about.

  • I have parked my boat on that beach every time I have been down the Canyon. I wouldn't miss it.

In fact, at least a couple times, you could have rowed your raft under the falls.

If that group had been on that beach they would have been in serious trouble.

Of course there is no camping at Deer Creek so thats cool. Hate to wake up in the middle of the night to THAT!

  • Thought you ment that you parked your car.

  • What happened to the ancient handprints in the canyon above? They had to have been washed off.

And does that mean this was a once in 1,000 year event? (Or whenever the prints were made)

    Amazing video.

  • I'm not completely sure about the handprints, but I think they remained intact. This can't be a once in a 1,000 year event, but I do think it's fairly rare.

  • Yes it could.

The flashflood that created the (modern)Chrystal Rapids washed out Anasazi ruins that were 900 years old. (River Runners History Grand Canyon, Kim Crumbo)

  • Wow, I spent a lovely morning on that beach a few years ago. It was so peaceful. Hard to imagine what it would have been like during that! Excellent capture!

  • i think tahts a mudslide or something.. rockslide?

  • Thats a flash flood, like the title says. they happen on canyons when heavy downpour occurs.

  • now that is some good footage..nice going...right spot right time. intense

  • Wow, Kayak - that is awesome footage.

  • Thanks for posting this! Wow!

  • are they making popcorn

  • No, it is rain hitting the camera.
