I was standing outside the west door at Hooters when this happened. I was showing a few girls how to spot tornados. Then someone said "like that one there", the rain began and we went inside. I have video of that too.
well i can live in colonial hills my parents are divorced so i live there sometimes anyways i live by biglots and it went in my BACKYARD! im 12 and i looked out and screamed ''MOM!!!! WERE GONNA DIE!'' lol and my mom was outside and she ran in and tripped while saying ''ITS COMMING! ITS COMMMMIIINNNGGGG!'' im like ''DANG yell why dont you!!'' lol
People should know Southhaven, Mississippi is Earthquake prone not just Tornado Prone. Ever wonder What would it be like if a Viloent Tornado and a Viloent Earthquake struck Southhaven, MS at the same time? Well im currently in the process of making a mock-up documentery video about that exact scenario happening to Memphis and the surrounding Areas. It would be on Youtube very very soon.
dude i was outside work that day watching it go down goodman rd and that mother fucker was big. i was working at schnucks in southaven when that happend..
Good job Bill, that was my building you were focused on....the tornado threw stuff around like it was styrafoam. Actually it was pieces of fence from the park down the street. It's a good thing no one got hurt. We had no warning!
This *almost* reminds me of a dust devil, only a tad more intense... Not too good an idea to hang around the window, but... Good deal on catching this though!
Seeing another storm cycle OVER downtown Nashville just north of a friend's dorm at Travecca-Nazerine Uni and just south of the high-rises, definitely makes you wonder... Nashville was VERY lucky, while Memphis n Jackson weren't so lucky...
You're luck that was only an EF0. Had it been a larger tornado you would have been hurt or killed. Take cover next time! It did make for a cool vid though.
Ugly sky - glad you're okay - unless one's been in one of these things, they won't understand its power - this vid comes closer than i want - been in five -
Looks like it was one of the multiple, suction vorticies that are inside of a larger tornado which probably wasn't totally visible on the ground even at that point
This is the tornado that came at us here in Memphis, just over the Ms. line, just moments after the first one came through from the northwest. I sure am glad it wasn't another Hurricane Elvis!
This is an awesome video. I would like to know where this was filmed. My family & I were under the I55 overpass on Rasco when a tornado passed directly over us. I would like to know where you were in relation to us. GREAT VIDEO!
Even though you say that what we see is only a fraction of what was going on, what you captured is still a great example of how much debris even just a small funnel or the supercell itself can throw around to cause property damage or injuries to people.
That is a great clip! You were very brave to stick with it as long as you did, but I don't think I would recommend that you ever be that brave again. ;-) Thanks for sharing!
Very impressive! I'd also like to know more about this. Looks like an EF0 spin off to me right in your yard. Did you observe a larger wedge tornado in the distance? What's the damage like within a few miles of your area(damage in the path the storm was headed, etc)?
massive damage a couple of miles away. i'm "in the dark" so to speak, as the storm knocked out my electricity/cable/internet. i do have power but have yet to even see a news report. during the video you hear a "beep", that was my battery backup kicking in. power is back on but still no cable/internet. i'm using wifi in a church parking lot :( probably more infor on Memphis web sites. thanx again, Bill
When the video begins, the cloud base is lowest behind the apartment building on the (upper) right. What was this lowered area? Was it, so to speak, the "main" tornado? A wall cloud? It may be that the tornado that spun up 200 yards from you was a satellite tornado. Can you describe more about what was going on when you were taping and also the aftermath? Thanks! Great Video!!
debris was flying toward me when i headed back toward the apartment. debris was coming from another direction making my entrance to the apartment door a bad choice too. that's why i decided to take the patio route. the wind were so intense in a matter of seconds that i almost lost my footing. i would have liked to have more footage but with the winds so strong it just wasn't possible.
I soooo remember this bc I was living in oakridge at the time and spotted the one that hit the houses off rasco...

It's pretty brave to stand this close to severe weather. But sometimes bravery is mustaken for stupidity.

Hey. We live in Mississippi. Stupidity is accepted.

Sometimes the wind can be so strong that you can't hear the sirens.
That's what happened in Raymond on the fourth when our tornado touched down
