  • I soooo remember this bc I was living in oakridge at the time and spotted the one that hit the houses off rasco...

  • wow there is a tornado in your backyard literally

  • Yes, just a little over three years ago... seems like yesterday.

  • is this dorchester??

  • I was standing outside the west door at Hooters when this happened. I was showing a few girls how to spot tornados. Then someone said "like that one there", the rain began and we went inside. I have video of that too.

  • i know where you live dude,my friend had a few foot ball games there

  • ya u soposed to stay away from windows a doors

  • well i can live in colonial hills my parents are divorced so i live there sometimes anyways i live by biglots and it went in my BACKYARD! im 12 and i looked out and screamed ''MOM!!!! WERE GONNA DIE!'' lol and my mom was outside and she ran in and tripped while saying ''ITS COMMING! ITS COMMMMIIINNNGGGG!'' im like ''DANG yell why dont you!!'' lol

  • lol i live in colonial hills

  • Southaven is like right in the middle of some bull's eye target area.I lived there for 10 years and tornado season was always interesting.

  • @dolphinbuc yes there are

  • i lived there at that time

  • We could see that tornado from my yard; we lived right around the corner from those apartments at the time. That was a freakin scary day!

  • u think u were close my family came over [some] since it was in my backyard....like us country folk it was a show 2 us haha watchin it almost hit us

  • It's pretty brave to stand this close to severe weather. But sometimes bravery is mustaken for stupidity.

  • Hey. We live in Mississippi. Stupidity is accepted.

  • People should know Southhaven, Mississippi is Earthquake prone not just Tornado Prone. Ever wonder What would it be like if a Viloent Tornado and a Viloent Earthquake struck Southhaven, MS at the same time? Well im currently in the process of making a mock-up documentery video about that exact scenario happening to Memphis and the surrounding Areas. It would be on Youtube very very soon.

  • that isnt how you spell Southaven. and there hasnt been an earthquake since i have lived here.

  • Great video thanks....5 stars.....that was wild...

  • dude i was outside work that day watching it go down goodman rd and that mother fucker was big. i was working at schnucks in southaven when that happend..

  • is that dorchester apartments? I was on coral hills at my brothers house when that thing came around the house

  • HA yep, you were at my house :P

  • are you in cherry valley

  • Colonial Hills area. Just a few feet from Cherry Valley Park.

  • thats what i thought

  • i go there every other weekend no wonder it looked familiar lol it went in my backyard i saw it i was freaken out

  • ahh, a little advise next time you are in a twister... GET AWAY from the GLASS DOORS...

cool vid though... I watched that twister tear through Hickory Hill area... crazy day.

  • hi i live in southaven and on chesterfield it went in my back yard!! don, don, don!lol lol lol

  • Crack the whip...!

  • spooky!

  • Good Job, best one, looks like you were right in the middle of it.

  • Good job Bill, that was my building you were focused on....the tornado threw stuff around like it was styrafoam. Actually it was pieces of fence from the park down the street. It's a good thing no one got hurt. We had no warning!

  • I moved form Southaven to Tunica, and Im glad I did lol we had a tornado hit Old 61 not to long ago.

  • yes as i watched this i was scared sh+t please stay safe while doing this type of filming

  • That mini twister looks like a small dust devil, but they can be dangerous the small twisters!

  • yall are some crazy people but i guess us rednecks have to be to live here in the south

  • That looks realy freaky i defenetaly woudnt want to be thier

  • HOLY CRAP thats right near me D:

  • I have a feeling this is going to be a BAD spring and early summer.

  • same here. if its this bad pre season, god knows what the actual tornado season will be like

  • This *almost* reminds me of a dust devil, only a tad more intense... Not too good an idea to hang around the window, but... Good deal on catching this though!

Seeing another storm cycle OVER downtown Nashville just north of a friend's dorm at Travecca-Nazerine Uni and just south of the high-rises, definitely makes you wonder... Nashville was VERY lucky, while Memphis n Jackson weren't so lucky...

    Former Tennessean now in Colorado...

  • i went thru it

  • why wasn't there a siren?? that vid is freakin nuts dude

  • Sometimes the wind can be so strong that you can't hear the sirens.

That's what happened in Raymond on the fourth when our tornado touched down

  • Intense an that is putting it mildly...

  • Great capture, and you are damned lucky that it wasn't a larger tornado with stronger winds.

  • Man, that was close. You were so close to the debris disk. Thanks for posting this! It's awesome.

  • I live in West Point so we got it at 1:ooAM one night. Well at least the last time.

  • Good footage. Thanks for your bravery fellow Southavien*?

  • LOL =)

  • its spelled Southaven lol oh well, i went though that excate same storm & was outside when a tornado touched down! crap! right over my freakin house!

  • two words, suction vortex

  • okay...thanx ?

  • is this located by new salem baptist church

    just wondering

  • You're luck that was only an EF0. Had it been a larger tornado you would have been hurt or killed. Take cover next time! It did make for a cool vid though.

  • Your balls must be the size of cinder blocks... Crazy that you filmed as much as you did after seeing the tornado, happy you did and glad your safe..

  • Ugly sky - glad you're okay - unless one's been in one of these things, they won't understand its power - this vid comes closer than i want - been in five -

    *storm* in texas

  • gosh, why werent you hiding in a bathtub somewhere. Wow, thats an awesome video and Im so glad that your ok.

  • Looks like it was one of the multiple, suction vorticies that are inside of a larger tornado which probably wasn't totally visible on the ground even at that point

  • man, that was CRAZY. close call.

  • This is the tornado that came at us here in Memphis, just over the Ms. line, just moments after the first one came through from the northwest. I sure am glad it wasn't another Hurricane Elvis!

  • I have a morbid fascination with funnel clouds....holly sh*t!!!

  • i didn't...but i do now :)

  • Dang, looks like you got back inside just in time. Thanks for posting and glad ur safe.

    Bill - Ohio

  • thanx Bill...

  • damn

  • Buen vídeo,

    good video.

    ;)

  • thanx

  • This is an awesome video. I would like to know where this was filmed. My family & I were under the I55 overpass on Rasco when a tornado passed directly over us. I would like to know where you were in relation to us. GREAT VIDEO!

  • Dorchester Drive close to Hwy. 51.

Building next to the mini-twister is Dorchester Apts. office.

  • Even though you say that what we see is only a fraction of what was going on, what you captured is still a great example of how much debris even just a small funnel or the supercell itself can throw around to cause property damage or injuries to people.

That is a great clip! You were very brave to stick with it as long as you did, but I don't think I would recommend that you ever be that brave again. ;-) Thanks for sharing!

  • thanx, maybe I'll closer to a larger one next time...

  • Also, what was the time of this; and what part of south haven do you live?

  • the time/date on the video is accurate.

it was on Dorchester Drive at the corner close to the apartments office

  • man this so dam cool

  • Very impressive! I'd also like to know more about this. Looks like an EF0 spin off to me right in your yard. Did you observe a larger wedge tornado in the distance? What's the damage like within a few miles of your area(damage in the path the storm was headed, etc)?

  • massive damage a couple of miles away. i'm "in the dark" so to speak, as the storm knocked out my electricity/cable/internet. i do have power but have yet to even see a news report. during the video you hear a "beep", that was my battery backup kicking in. power is back on but still no cable/internet. i'm using wifi in a church parking lot :( probably more infor on Memphis web sites. thanx again, Bill

  • When the video begins, the cloud base is lowest behind the apartment building on the (upper) right. What was this lowered area? Was it, so to speak, the "main" tornado? A wall cloud? It may be that the tornado that spun up 200 yards from you was a satellite tornado. Can you describe more about what was going on when you were taping and also the aftermath? Thanks! Great Video!!

  • debris was flying toward me when i headed back toward the apartment. debris was coming from another direction making my entrance to the apartment door a bad choice too. that's why i decided to take the patio route. the wind were so intense in a matter of seconds that i almost lost my footing. i would have liked to have more footage but with the winds so strong it just wasn't possible.

  • good video

  • thanx
