hello im a 7th grader im planning on auditioning i am great on the piano and can sing but i have a 77 average do you think if i nail the audition next year i can get in to the school
hey i'm a junior hear in my highschool ..is there a way i can get into la guardia..i'm in AP 2D art and i have taken drawing and painting as well as studio art. i'm also in the chorus and musical. does the school allow auditions for senior year? the only reason i ask is because my family is moving closer to the city

@cutiecassiie you only go to laguardia as an art major: your first 2 yrs are just required classes. Fashion, which I believe was recently cut about 2 yrs ago due to budget cuts, is an elective course that you'd take in ur Jr or Sr year

@flotingmike12 It's more than just playing guitar. They're going to have you sight read, sight sing, ear training etc. They'll test you in different ways. So, if you CAN sight read, that will obviously help a LOT. They also like Jazz. If you get in, you WILL be playing a LOT of jazz. That's about as much as I can say. I can't tell you if you can get in because I don't know how well rounded you are in your musicianship. But I hope all goes well!
I want to get into LaGuardia SOOOOOO bad! I'm thinking about doing art because i'm a master :D. What really puts a weight on my back is the portfolio. I'm an amateur artist because i'm in the 6th grade and all, and i'm just plain lazy I can't draw that well. As for the portfolio, just watch the video. If you're struggling with drawing, then I suggest you really take the time to get lessons and build up on your technique. And if you're lazy, perhaps you shouldn't bother applying because I knew people at LaGuardia who didn't want to be there but I knew someone who was gifted who didn't get in because there wasn't enough "space." If you're serious, you shouldn't complain about laziness.

@jasmiri02 I recommend sticking to more formal dances. Ballet is a great choice, but I honestly don't know what they allow. I assume it'd be like the music department where they prefer to hear Jazz than Hip-Hop, and etc.

@weirdfriends101 Don't bother trying to take another talent because you want to get in. Even if you did, you'd be doing something you didn't want to do. And on top of that, not one talent is easy. They're all intensive, and don't be fooled by it. If you want art, go in for art. You wouldn't be able to change your major until a year later, and you would have just wasted a year of your life.
If you don't get in, go to another school for art and try again next year. You can come in as a sophomore.

Umm I just auditioned for dance 2 days ago and a few questions:
1) two people got a callback but I didn't so what dies that mean ?
2)in grades , I have one 85 and the rest are all 90s and up , my average is a 93, I got a 4 on both of my state exams, have never been late but absent two times for my seventh grade report card , will they possibly accept me for that ?
3)will they still probably pick me if I messed up a few times at the audition?
I'm so nervous I gave my all to it. I'm so scared I didn't make it they didn't tell me about call backs some kid that go there said not to worry about that but I am. @Saffroncreature If you're asking if you can get another shot with an audition the answer is no, but I'm not sure what you just asked with that first question.
Draw what you like. But I recommend that you show a variety of skills or subject matter. You can try to learn pastels instead of watercolor. Watercolor is harder than pastels. At least try to put some color into your work. It'll make a difference, trust me. :)

Hey I auditioned today ! I wa so nervous i was smiling trying not to look nervous I did both monologues comedy then dramatic then the cold play after that they asked me questions about the comedy one and told me to do the first lines 2 times they said how wa your character feeling I was like suprised and they said okay let's see you donut suprised etc.
@likgivitupitsme It's possible, but not the best route. You're not limited to only using pastel. If it's not your thing then try to find some other substitute of a medium. However, if you want to give it a shot (and I encourage it). But try using charcoal too. It shows that you can do more than just colored pencils or just regular black and white. And if you want to go that way, you better be damn good at it! lol.
There's not much to pastels but heres a tip: don't smudge. Let it blend itself.
@drzgliljenny Just be yourself. You want to go in there confident and determined. Show you're really passionate about your craft and let them know what coming here will do for you. And get excited! Not, off the walls excited of course, but excited and proud of yourself. They'll like that! :) Hope you get in!

@drzgliljenny Know your monologues by the back of your hand and perform with emotion. Don't look desperate but look determined. The school has a lot to offer, so show them that you have what it takes!
I know for a fact that drama majors have to take dance, singing, etc. so be prepared if they ask you to sing. But I don't know that for sure. Good luck!
@TheMycomedyzone Well, I really have nothing to say to help you but if you're REALLY good then maybe they'll excuse you but for the most part LaG accepts students with an average of 80+. If you have a 75 I wouldn't worry too much but it's really the people with 80 averages and up who attend.
LaGuardia is not just an art school that just teaches art, it has pretty challenging academics compared to most schools, and they're looking for kids who are balanced both artistically and academically. GL!

@jessyloveskulls6969 They have chorus mainly for vocalists. However, LaGuardia also provides another course that allows anyone who can play and sing to compose, create their own songs, and perform them in a show. It's not a talent show or anything, it's strictly for those students. It's neat. Even me, an art major. I played drums in a latin band that performed. It was great. Very professional. Vocalists get it pretty intense though, you have to do many genres anyway. Opera, gospel, etc.

@dopedinosaur Pretty general things. Why do you want to go to LaGuardia and all of that. They'll ask questions though that may make you look conceded or cocky, so try to come up with creative, humble answers that really make you look genuinely passionate and not "well I'm the best!"
i think they asked how long have I been doing art and where i thought i was going to go with it. as an art major, it wasnt too much of a problem. they looked more at my art than my persona. maybe its different 4 u?

Try to use more like pen, color pencils, and paints are good. Don't worry so much about mediums. I'd say use at least three. Focus more on the different styles and a variety of pieces. Seven to thirteen is good.

The interview is short. just be honest and be prepared to probably do some ear training and rhythm clap-backs. the school looks more for ur talent and grades more so than ur interview tho, however dont underestimate it! could make a bit of a difference.
Depends - were you smiling a lot too? They may have been trying to be nice. Who knows though? Maybe they thought you had some awesome licks every ten seconds but I think you're the only one who knows if you did well. I can't say for sure.
i auditioned about three months ago and one of the observers looked at me and smiled every 10 secoonds...is this because they wanted to show that they were nice or because i did good.
during my "Short Interveiw" I said Im really nervous cause my in class exam stuff didnt come out 2 well cause I was so nervous and the perosn who looked at my work calmly said don't be nervous. is that a sign? I think he liked me
I wouldn't worry too much, although I don't think telling them that your class exam wasn't too good is beneficial to you. Either way, they're there to observe you, not to penalize you. I'd take it neutrally. Your interviewer probably said that so you wouldn't feel pressured. I wouldn't make anything of it as of yet.
I auditioned a while ago, and the guy who auditioned me said good answer, during the interview, and smiled alot during my audition, I know it probably does'nt mean much, but is that a good sign?
Sounds like it to me! Professors aren't supposed to show any kind of emotion during an audition. But it seems like you were the exception! I'd say you've got a good thing goin' and that's going to help you!

My average is 98% & I'm going to audition for Acting & Dancing (Ballet) & I was wondering if you can give me some advice. I think I have a really good chance of getting in , I've been practicing my scene for about a few weeks. I know it's a little early , but I still thinks it's necessary for me right now to know all these things. Also , thanks for making a video talking about the school it has very nice =]

hi im going in for art. and i heard you could take two talents. since i really really REALLY want to get into la guardia and im scared that i wont pass for art, even though i have a very good art teacher, i was wondering, wats the easiest second talent that i could take? plz answer :)

@weirdfriends101 Don't bother trying to take another talent because you want to get in. Even if you did, you'd be doing something you didn't want to do. And on top of that, not one talent is easy. They're all intensive, and don't be fooled by it. If you want art, go in for art. You wouldn't be able to change your major until a year later, and you would have just wasted a year of your life.
If you don't get in, go to another school for art and try again next year. You can come in as a sophomore.

im an eight grader and i wanna audition for laguradia. if i dunt have an admission ticket can i still go? im interested in art but i also do fashion designs so if i include that in my portfolio will that be alright? and also wat is a transcript and when is the audition for ppl living in queens? and am i allowed to bring a cellphone to the audition?

1) I dunno, honestly. Call the school. I'm sure if you're in the system, they'll let you in though.
2) Fashion is art.
3) A transcript shows your grades on standardized tests as well as your school grades.
4) Call the school and get your scheduled time.
5) No.

1) Chill out.
2) I don't know how your artwork looks like (I assume you're going in for art). Therefore, I can't judge.
3) I'd worry more about being focused on school and grades. I'd say an 88 average is a guarantee entry (of course with the talent).

Umm I just auditioned for dance 2 days ago and a few questions:
1) two people got a callback but I didn't so what dies that mean ?
2)in grades , I have one 85 and the rest are all 90s and up , my average is a 93, I got a 4 on both of my state exams, have never been late but absent two times for my seventh grade report card , will they possibly accept me for that ?
3)will they still probably pick me if I messed up a few times at the audition?

I'm so nervous I gave my all to it. I'm so scared I didn't make it they didn't tell me about call backs some kid that go there said not to worry about that but I am. @Saffroncreature If you're asking if you can get another shot with an audition the answer is no, but I'm not sure what you just asked with that first question.
Draw what you like. But I recommend that you show a variety of skills or subject matter. You can try to learn pastels instead of watercolor. Watercolor is harder than pastels. At least try to put some color into your work. It'll make a difference, trust me. :)

Hey I auditioned today ! I wa so nervous i was smiling trying not to look nervous I did both monologues comedy then dramatic then the cold play after that they asked me questions about the comedy one and told me to do the first lines 2 times they said how wa your character feeling I was like suprised and they said okay let's see you donut suprised etc.

@likgivitupitsme It's possible, but not the best route. You're not limited to only using pastel. If it's not your thing then try to find some other substitute of a medium. However, if you want to give it a shot (and I encourage it). But try using charcoal too. It shows that you can do more than just colored pencils or just regular black and white. And if you want to go that way, you better be damn good at it! lol.
There's not much to pastels but heres a tip: don't smudge. Let it blend itself.

@drzgliljenny Just be yourself. You want to go in there confident and determined. Show you're really passionate about your craft and let them know what coming here will do for you. And get excited! Not, off the walls excited of course, but excited and proud of yourself. They'll like that! :) Hope you get in!

@drzgliljenny Know your monologues by the back of your hand and perform with emotion. Don't look desperate but look determined. The school has a lot to offer, so show them that you have what it takes!
I know for a fact that drama majors have to take dance, singing, etc. so be prepared if they ask you to sing. But I don't know that for sure. Good luck!

@TheMycomedyzone Well, I really have nothing to say to help you but if you're REALLY good then maybe they'll excuse you but for the most part LaG accepts students with an average of 80+. If you have a 75 I wouldn't worry too much but it's really the people with 80 averages and up who attend.
LaGuardia is not just an art school that just teaches art, it has pretty challenging academics compared to most schools, and they're looking for kids who are balanced both artistically and academically. GL!

@jessyloveskulls6969 They have chorus mainly for vocalists. However, LaGuardia also provides another course that allows anyone who can play and sing to compose, create their own songs, and perform them in a show. It's not a talent show or anything, it's strictly for those students. It's neat. Even me, an art major. I played drums in a latin band that performed. It was great. Very professional. Vocalists get it pretty intense though, you have to do many genres anyway. Opera, gospel, etc.

@dopedinosaur Pretty general things. Why do you want to go to LaGuardia and all of that. They'll ask questions though that may make you look conceded or cocky, so try to come up with creative, humble answers that really make you look genuinely passionate and not "well I'm the best!"
i think they asked how long have I been doing art and where i thought i was going to go with it. as an art major, it wasnt too much of a problem. they looked more at my art than my persona. maybe its different 4 u?

Try to use more like pen, color pencils, and paints are good. Don't worry so much about mediums. I'd say use at least three. Focus more on the different styles and a variety of pieces. Seven to thirteen is good.

The interview is short. just be honest and be prepared to probably do some ear training and rhythm clap-backs. the school looks more for ur talent and grades more so than ur interview tho, however dont underestimate it! could make a bit of a difference.

during my "Short Interveiw" I said Im really nervous cause my in class exam stuff didnt come out 2 well cause I was so nervous and the perosn who looked at my work calmly said don't be nervous. is that a sign? I think he liked me

I wouldn't worry too much, although I don't think telling them that your class exam wasn't too good is beneficial to you. Either way, they're there to observe you, not to penalize you. I'd take it neutrally. Your interviewer probably said that so you wouldn't feel pressured. I wouldn't make anything of it as of yet.

Sounds like it to me! Professors aren't supposed to show any kind of emotion during an audition. But it seems like you were the exception! I'd say you've got a good thing goin' and that's going to help you!
