This documentary is strangely unbalanced. It documents the problems facing the Allies during 1917 but neglects to mention anything about the Germans, who were basically starving to death, and down to their last bits of manpower.
There is also an overly optimistic belief that the Germans could have succeeded in their final offensives by "breaking thru." But "breaking thru" had occurred before, on both sides, and never led to major advantages.
America lost way too many men attempting to liberate primitive people who had no clue as to how to govern themselves. America was stupid in thinking those people could create a civilized govt, excepting the Koreans. Of course, that required continuing to protect them for 60 years..... costing us a fortune ...

If they were to only show up but not to contribute greatly to the winning of pivitol battles on Germanys side but only fought battles that made no difference in the bigger picture then Britain and France still would have won.

Democracies fight in the name of democracy, just as some people fight in the name of religion, even if the religion's supposedly one of peace. Most, maybe all, democracies are plutocracies anyway, and the real reason behind wars is the struggle between ruling elites for control of resources - money and power. Although the Allies did fight against a vile inhuman regime in WW2, the Nazi's brutality wasn't the reason for war and the West was also allied to Stalin's similarly brutal dictatorship.
I think a primary reason to why Canada never gets any credit is because their troops were under British command while American troops weren't. Essentially Canadian troops lost their identity.
@rogueremis Actually Canadian troops gained more identity as the war went on and by 1917 was looked on as more of a national army, not just as troops of the British Empire like in 1914 and 1915.

It also shows how more sophisticated arms completely took over the old, outdated warfare mentality, which unfortunately dominated the top military class. In WW2 no America means Hitler consolidates everything in the west and focuses on USSR. Britain on its own was not a factor except in self-defense, and even that came at huge losses. @cavaleer What is mutinying fighting? The French mutinied before 1918, the last year of the war, they also recovered all ground lost at Verdun. The US was hardly involved in WW1 and if you knew anything about it you would know that Germany still would have lost.

This documentary is strangely unbalanced. It documents the problems facing the Allies during 1917 but neglects to mention anything about the Germans, who were basically starving to death, and down to their last bits of manpower.
There is also an overly optimistic belief that the Germans could have succeeded in their final offensives by "breaking thru." But "breaking thru" had occurred before, on both sides, and never led to major advantages.

Democracies fight in the name of democracy, just as some people fight in the name of religion, even if the religion's supposedly one of peace. Most, maybe all, democracies are plutocracies anyway, and the real reason behind wars is the struggle between ruling elites for control of resources - money and power. Although the Allies did fight against a vile inhuman regime in WW2, the Nazi's brutality wasn't the reason for war and the West was also allied to Stalin's similarly brutal dictatorship.

I think a primary reason to why Canada never gets any credit is because their troops were under British command while American troops weren't. Essentially Canadian troops lost their identity.

@cavaleer What is mutinying fighting? The French mutinied before 1918, the last year of the war, they also recovered all ground lost at Verdun. The US was hardly involved in WW1 and if you knew anything about it you would know that Germany still would have lost.
Britain was not a factor except in self defense? Ever hear of strategic bombing? Ever hear of North Africa? That was a victory for the Brits. They also had more men in contact with the enemy worldwide than the US did until May 1944.

What huge losses did Britain suffer in self defense? Remove the Soviets from the equation and what do you have? If 350 Soviet divisions weren't fighting 220 German divisions in 43 - 44 who would take their place? 7 US divisions from Italy?

@cavaleer Underscore the fact that the US was just getting started when the Germans were nearly finished. What do you mean the only country left standing? Do you mean cause you weren't in it from the beginning and didn't get ravaged by 6 war years or because no enemy could reach the US and Canada? The British and Russians were also left standing and Russia had a far more powerful ground army than the US did. The US Armies would have been crushed if they tryed to war against Russia.

@cavaleer I was referring to their military was still left standing. Yes countries were in rubble. Do you know why the US was not in rubble? It is 4 billion the UK owes from WW1 not 30. Other countries still owe the UK 4 billion from WW1 so join the party. Marshall is the one who came up with the idea of the Marshall plan money loan, hence the name Marshall. Why did Stalin refuse? Anyway, as of 1934 the UK loaned out 12 billion, not 4, during WW1 that was never repaid. UK owed the US 4 billion.

@cavaleer They borrowed 4 billion in WW1 but with todays inflation and interest it is 30 billion, the Brits also loaned out 12 billion during the war or over 90 billion inflated to todays rate that was never repaid. This means that we are just as much their masters as they are ours, meaning zero. It also means the Queen is just as much our Queen as she is theirs.

@Jospehporta Indeed britain was responsible for many deaths over it's history, which is the fate of every global power (which The Enlgish Empire was before WWI/WWII). That being said, th US has done what it can to cause it's share of deaths since becoming the global power post-WWII. Where the english defended thereasons for their wars in the past, the americans defend their wars now. There rly isn't any big difference, exept the era in which each power did/does it's killing.

WWI was not fought to "save the Brits and French." There were events :
Begium's Rape; the Lusitania ; the Zimmerman telegram and more that sent us to war
And the US Army that fought WWI was no more nor less "professional"
than the Army before then. The US Army in WWI used weapons and planes provided by the
French and Brits. You don't seem to know much about anything. So why are

What the U.S forces done in Vietnam was horrific and they were guilty of war crimes. However if the U.S and the Allies did win the conflict, The the South would have killed countless thousands in the North maybe millions. The same as the North done to the South its cival war.
