I believe:

Silver doesn't do cons that are far from Cal because:

1, can't get the time off or...

2, can't afford it....or both.

If my belief is correct, people that are into sc-fi/fantasy/geek-dom will always want to experience new things. Some people may not be able to handle travelling; but, I don't think Silver comes across as one of those people who can't handle traveling.
