  • Could someone educate me a little here as I am fairly new to Black Metal. Is the sound quality supposed to be that horrible and tinny?

  • A happy tune indeed.

  • If you're truly Kvlt you listen to this in 240p. Trve as fvck.

  • @Blashyrkh1993 fuck that, its all about MONO Vinyls

  • @chepe371 I'm just glad you could see the humour in my comment. I post it expecting a bunch of "Trve kvlt" black metallers acting all badass about it.

  • the devil takes forms that you wouldnt expect. this is why ulver went the industrial electronic direction

  • What a wonderful making of the riffs!!! They are very refined!

  • iv been listening to this album for like 10 + years and all i have to say about it is, so melodic ,so pure, so true to music. hail ulver bergtatt and nattens

  • infernal blessings!

  • I fucking love this album: WEREWOLVES LYRICS!!!

  • @elviejoql Your words sound so great, but why long for death?

  • la perla del black metal.

  • I also own 'The Trilogie',I hear it's selling for big $ on ebay but you'd have to be a fucking idiot to sell it.

  • I own the "trilogie" Love them to pieces. I have burnt copies so I dont fuck up the originals.

  • I truly believe this song captures the darkness within us all. No matter how we try to escape that looming feeling of despair it will always envelope us. This song to me is about that embrace and that raw deadly emotion that pours out when we do face the darkness.

    Ulver forever!

  • @seasideren Don't overreact.

  • @seasideren I agree. But it isn't necessarily a feeling of darkness. I would argue this is the voice of God. It is the spirit that promotes each of our minds, with enough self examination, into the heavenly realms where "me" is replaced with "us". It is an audible manifestation of God's wrath toward ideas that are grounded in death in destruction.

  • *and

  • @warmachine15 can u explain more? i do agree but still confused on what u mean, i feel the same though, as if there is some spiritual link to god through this grim darkness and through sorrow u find pure truth. its like the music unlocks your 3rd eye and u tap into the source of all living, the escence of life which is eternal and undying energy.

  • THIS SOUND LIKE WHITE NOISE! AHHHHH

  • I detect a couple maiden-esque riffs

  • Damn, I miss this Ulver.

  • @Soriua Me too. Their modern electronic stuff just isn't the same.

  • i hate Gram because hes not making Black Metal annymore Garm, Ics Vortex and Mike Åkerfeldt are the best vocalists ever. HAIL! METAL

  • @stiannb You know thats what i thought, kinda lost hope for them after nattens.. Few weeks ago i was listening Bergtatt at my cabin after many years. After that i opened my laptop on searched ulver from YT and gave the new material second chance. Now dunno if it is age or getting older or what but after Themes From William Blake's..., track The Argument, Plate 2, i wondered myself " how the fuck did i let this slip just before my eyes!" and ordered all albums after nattens that i could find :)

  • @stiannb thats a bad reason to hate garm. vortex and Åkerfeldt are still awesome

  • One cannot tame a wolf no more than one can "own" a cat. A dog you can train, and even consider owning. You can "train" a cat, but he's still in charge. A wolf will be in charge all the time, he won't obey you. He's a wolf.

That's why people who really like wolves have cats as "pets"... they're not really pets, they're the ones in charge. Like wolves, they don't take orders from humans, they give them. That's why people who never had a cat distrust them so much, they really do control you.

  • @Simpson654 what do you think a dog is? its a domesticated wolf. its just been thousands of years of domestication and breeding to conform to mans needs.

  • fuzz & lo-fi \o/

  • I'm contemplating house training a wolf after listening to this.

  • That intro riff is so damn catchy. The whole album has that apocalyptic, chaotic kind of feeling that I like so much about black metal.

  • Love this one.

  • I really wonder if they will ever return to black metal...just once. The electronica is fine and all, but Bergtatt and Nattens Madrigal both make my top 20 albums if not the top 10 when I think about it. Ulver is amazing through and through.

  • Magical metal (trolsk sort metal). Truly.

  • It's only my humble opinion... But i always felt this album to be a clever homage to black metal, rather than a true black metal album.

The melodies hiding behind the buzzing wall-of-noise guitars remind me more of the structure of "noise" experimental music rather than metal.

For example; In the first track Wolf and fear. The buzzing brutality assaults the listener without warning, only to fade into a melodic folk passage.. Kind of like saying: "You hear guys?... we're doing this on purpose."

  • I hear this and then i hear say Shadows of the Sun, and while still goood, it pains me to know what they could have been.

  • this record gives true peace..

    tranquility from the inside.

so brutal, yet so beautiful, so honest

    the inside of man

  • @mistercaramel Agreed!

  • if ulver still played black metal today, i wouldnt be surprised if they were near the top of the scene. not only did they create awesome riffs, but in general they had magnificent song writing skills. truly expert musicians, i still respect the decisions on where they went musically. although it would still be sick to hear Ulver go black metal one more time....i doubt it though :(

  • when listened with your mind truely open, and get past the fuzz that makes it a real BM recoreding, the guitar rifft becomes absolutely mesmerizing,

  • Is this a swedish band?

  • @SneakyOstrich

    gnough

  • @CapnKeys gnough? lol?

  • @SneakyOstrich Gnough, dai ar frum Gnoarweigh.

  • @SneakyOstrich No, Norwegian

  • @akhossman Yeah, this guy is a little "flummig". Gnoarweigh!? hehe :P

  • Comment removed

  • @demunterlucas Yes, yes I got it the first time.

  • i Love ulver

  • Fucking great,,, thanks for the Upload,,, Alle Hagl Black Metal!!!

  • Ive always compared this album to a lullaby. Like a black metal lullaby. Never have I heard such beautiful music in all my life.

  • One of the best BM songs altogether imo

  • Yeah,. Brutal, yet emotional.

  • The image is epic in light of the music! Gives me goosebumps man!

  • This is the best and 100% original black metal disc ever heard!!!, really!!!.. its awesome and perfect!! i swear!! brutal!

  • Aatte hymnen til ulven in manden

  • always changing, every album is something different.

  • amazing.

  • Epic, Raw, Beautiful

  • "Elvis never did no drugs", "Ulver never played no black metal", they might call Nattens Madrigal something else, and re-release it with names for songs (wrong!). To me this is still 4, and good black metal.

  • perfect

  • hails to ulver!

  • this is harsh and abrasive like frost, but somehow manages to be beautiful in its sheer, raw grimness.

  • que gran pasado tiene ulver, lastima por el presente

  • go learn something about music. They were great back then and are even better now.

  • @kcnirva Fuck off they are shit now? And if you want to learn about music check out When Lars Pederson is the master for that stuff not Garm so go and smoke a pipe

  • So weird I heard this and then I heard their new stuff and I kept thinking wtf did I type in the wrong name????

Do you know why they changed it to the pipe organ sound stuff in their new stuff? Do you like their new stuff??>

  • "This music doesn't need real video material. " Right!

    I love Ulver.

  • north ulve power

  • This is the best song of the album. So much passion and anger fused into one piece - Amazing

  • Damn, it sucks that the album you gave me doesn't work man, this is great!

  • passion yes, but this transcends anger, I think. It is up to the individual though. Different people hear different things, but it is amazing no matter what.

  • I Fucken love old Ulver

  • ULVER FUCKING RULES !!!!

  • hatreddd.....

  • I will listen to this album until my ears bleed and my hearing brings on the ringing of cowbells...because it is just that worth it.

I swear, amidst the sheer wall of sound, there is a enveloping peace and silence.

    HAIL ULVER!!!!!

  • @Sayujinse and that's how you know its black metal!

  • @Sayujinse Especially this Song is so great, but its really heavy for the ears. but, it is worth it.

  • why has nobody never ams talks of the exccelence of bass brought to you by skoll?!?

  • Okay, there you are: Ulver in their black metal period had the most remarkable, inspiring and audible bass playing available in the black metal scene on their albums! I also love their music therefore as it's just so multidimensional through that!

  • Awesome music! Although I have to admit that I like the "Bergtatt" album a little bit better. :)

  • Love this fucking CD. Excellent.

  • If you think its pop you are obviously deaf!

I cant see anything in their newer stuff that would appeal to a pop fan

  • ........that must be the awesomest pop music ever!

From how I see it their later works is like some weird dark electronica.

That would appeal as much to a pop fan as I guess other darkwave would......not much

  • Well its just a matter of taste in the end but I just don't like their new stuff.

  • Well ok thats allright.....but its still not "pop-music".

  • ah the classic metal-head, everything is either pop or hip-hop, no go betweens.

  • "Metal-head". I am actually a omnivore when it comes to music. Besides that I am still entitled to my own opinion and I think their new stuff isn't nearly as good as this album.

  • Primal! Awesome!.....fucked up!

  • This is the shit.

Man, I can't get enough of old fashioned black metal, but sooo much of it is shit. When it's good, like old school Ulver, it's really special.

    I love this kinda music.

  • 2:22 - 2:43 is just so incredible.

  • Agreed! Love it how the cool riff just kicks in without any messing about

  • every thing Ulver does is AMAZING

  • The first album I listened to. Nattens Madrigal - I used to call this album the part 3 of the trilogy of black metal ulver phase. I highly recommend all this trilogy Bergtatt, Kvelssanger and Nattens Madrigal. And for the black metal theme, well, I don't like to arguee about all the poser black metal bands of nowadays, but for sure, This band is true norwegian black metal.

  • wow, this is really good!

  • This is what Black Metal should be like

Fuck that scumbags from Dimmu Borgir !

  • @Debilonator Ahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOOLS, HE DID VOCALS FOR DIMMU BORGIR!!!!!!!!!

    X^D

  • @StEVe6XeR06K0oL6 . Who did what? Ulver's vocalist is Trickster G. (aka Garm) (Kristoffer Rygg) (1993-) (Arcturus (Nor), Borknagar, Head Control System)

  • @Debilonator So you'd prefer it if bands like Dimmu Borgir tried to copy Ulver's sound? It's mentalities like yours that made Ulver quit black metal!

  • @LordNazgulKing

    love you too honey :)

  • @LordNazgulKing Everything is better than the utopie, that the commercial hiphopscumbags start listening to old backmetal. Think about that! My Horror Number 1! All the jerks we don´t want. Dimmu is just a fucking metal band, and for mainstream.

  • @LordNazgulKing fo sho doe foo

  • @Debilonator yes no doubt!!THIS IS TRUE BLACK METAL

  • @Debilonator FUCK THEM HARD UP THEIR ASSES,DAMNED BASTARDS!!!!

THEY ARE RUINING BLACK METAL FOR EVERYONE!!!! ULVER,ENSLAVED,DARK THRONE, EMPEROR,BURZUM ARE THE KINGS... :)

  • @Debilonator In fairness, DB never tried to be Black Metal. They're post-Emperor arena metal, if anything.

  • pure black metal =D!!!

  • I'd listen to this album a lot more than I do, but I'm afraid that if I do I'll simply lose my ability to hear.

  • Hail Ulver

  • Sounds pagan

  • Yep that's definetley true black metal you can tell that by the disgusting deafening sound of the horrible distortion they are using

  • If you give it some time you'll learn to like it. You can hear everything pretty clearly despite the distortion.

  • I understand what you're saying. I always disliked distortion except for maybe Xasthur and this. I think a good point you have is that I haven't heard it without distortion. Maybe if I heard it without distortion it would suddenly become more amazing than it is right now. The one thing distortion does have though is a raw atmosphere. Listen to 0:55 - 1:20. To me distortion seems to be a good thing for at least that part. I see it your way too though.

  • Distortion doesn't bug me .. And I like the quality. Most of the 'raw black metal' bands just use the recording equipment they can afford, no shame in that. I would do the same (and I did). But most important, this is a really great band and I love this song :)

  • I dont blame the black metal bands that has this quallity because they can't afford.

I blame the idiots for calling black metal bands who manage to get good quallity and good recording "posers","this isn't black metal this sucks"

So they make a point that a basic part of black metal is dog shit quallity?

  • yes

  • Comment removed

  • Go back to hell be born again and try getting a brain.

Oh and BTW I don't go to synagogues :)

    you retarded ignorant stereotypical fuck

  • SHIT! Sorry, that was my mate on my account ¬.¬ If you must, complain to Fhinstanian.

  • Sorry about that, I stayed there last night and forgot to sign out....

  • complain to who?

    And ok no probs

  • Averything that gets played in mainstream is shit, thats why i try to start multiple projects so where i live(In Denamrk) wont have anytihng else to play in radio, so theyll get forced to play ''unusual'' music mosto ff the time/at all, ppls can get used to averything, thts how they got used to pop, death-industrial, black metal trash or grindcore is no difference.

  • Hey thrash is ain't shit that's my favorite style

  • I really like every Ulver Album, my favorite is Bertagg. This Song kicks ass

  • aguante ulverrrrr

  • Just awesome.Sad about their new style though.

  • Why would you say that?

  • black metal is mostly generic garbage.. ulver did a smart thing to go experimental

  • holy fuck!

  • My ears are about to ejaculate sperm

  • I just discovered Ulver, it's a shame I've never known it until now... O_o Garm and his bands made (and still makes) great MUSIC with big letters.

  • the only album i like by Ulver. the rest are just, i dunno. dull.

this song is quite nice though.

  • Kul sang, lenge leve Norge!

  • From 4:19 to the end = Amazing

  • This is one of the best songs on the album; it's incredible in its brutality.

The lyrics add a lot to it as well, so it probably helps if you understand Norwegian.

  • Shizzlmad, take a chill pill, it`s a free world outside of GuantanmoUSA :), you yanks have an aggression disorder, relax or I tremble :)))))

  • Lol!!!

  • The music is dark, raw, and bloodthirsty...much like the wolves ripping out the guts of their prey under the moonlight staining the pretty white snow with blood.

  • you can go to hell wolfgangle

don't ruin it for others if you don't like it

  • BLACK METAL. Do you know the meaning of the these 2 words? This is one of the best black metal's band taking out of Norway in the nineties....

  • who are u to judge nattens madrigal is a classic album ulver er pinical av black metal musikk helvete din trendy måter

  • where do these people come from. if you dont like it go away.

  • CHIDOOOOO!!!!!! A WUEVOOOOO!!!!

  • would'nt it be cool if Ulver did another metal album?

  • I don't think so. After this album Ulver had everything done what the band could have done. A new black metal album from Ulver would be just repetition.

  • njaaa... i don't think so, but there are sooo many metal bands now... everything is used, so maby you're right.

  • Agree!!!;)

  • Best song ever!! still remember the awe of getting my hands on the Three Journeyes Through The Norwegian Netherworlde lp box set!! no BM band will ever compare and considering they have'nt played BM for around ten years this is quite an astonishing achievement!May the Wolves forever hunt their prey! Hail Ulver

  • it's so horrible and yet so beautiful O.O

    epic 5*

  • From 4:19 till the end = Godly.

  • For me, this album is not about catchy or good music, it's all about atmosphere.

  • Ya know what... I insult pop music for being repetative, and I like black metal and all (and I enjoy ulver's later work) but the first two minutes of thsi was essentially the same thing with a brief break in it. To turn into another constant jumble.

I am happy to see how they turned around though and are now creating some really facinating music.

  • Are you deaf?

  • dude, there was at least three guitar parts simultaneously playing throughout the song. the reason its hard to hear is the nature of the tone of BM, and the recording processes, to make it sound rough. but listen again, and youll hear the melody. its like looking at the ruins of an ancient city, closing your eyes, and then really SEEING the majesty of how it was in the past. metaphorically speaking, lol : P

  • oo, nice comparison +1
