thats just typical new york though. did the yankees need a new stadium? hell no! old yankee stadium was a SHRINE for baseball, so many greats played there. i'm not a mets or a yankee fan (correct me if i'm wrong) but it certainly seemed like the mets didn't need a new stadium.
Ah, people get to emotional about concrete and steel. It WAS (past tense) a nice stadium that couldn't offer the comfort and facilities (like decent bathrooms, food courts, suites) we need in 2011.
All of you New Yorkers tend to forget Shea Stadium was where the Jets played Football before they moved into Giants Stadium in 1984. The memories of Mark Gastineau doing his sack dance are still vivid in my mind even today. Especially the one time Gastineau pissed off the Rams by doing his little sack dance after sacking Vince Ferragamo in a game at Shea in 1983. That was a memory way too funny to forget! I'm still laughing about it today! LOL
This Is What I Call A WASTE OF CITY MONEY!!!!!!!! The Way The Mets Are Playing Today....They Should Have Donated All That Money Towards The Mets & Bought ALL NEW PLAYERS!!!
why are these ass hoe's always have to destroy our memory's,sorry im not a met fan but the way they destroy shea stadium is just like they destroy yankee stadium & thats FUCKED UP!!! because we don't need new stadiums.
This is very sad to see. Shea may have been a shithole and it did'nt see too many championships but lots of us have loads of great memories. Citi Field is nice but it does'nt seem like a Met's ballpark and everything is geared toward the very rich. I suppose a little bit of winning might improve the feel but it does'nt look like that's going to happen anytime soon.
why tear it down? I mean what was the point nothing was wrong with it and i bet it brought alot of tourist because of the beatles. thats what made it to famous but now its worth shit. why mess around with history? Classic
@rentro03 I live in Los Angeles and I can guarantee you that Dodger Stadium will NEVER be taken down. Unless the Dodgers want to go back to playing baseball at the L. A. Memorial Coliseum.
even though im a yankee fan, i also happen to love the mets because they're a new york team too and they play in queens which is where i was born and raised. For them to tear down Shea and Yankee stadium is a true disappointment. Cant wait til that faggot bloomberg is out of office. Only good job he has done is add more cops to the streets. other than that, he sucks as a mayor.
Yes, there was some good games there, but we are not comparing the stadium with other sport stadiums, but with the MUSIC. The freaking Beatles played here, making it like a historical place. And they go tear it down. That's what is sad about it...
@Rawklorrd Well, The Beatles gave their LAST concert at Candlestick Park, but we're not crying. They're tearing it down as soon as the new stadium opens.
Well said. As a Yankee fan who also hated what they did to both stadiums, we lose our heritage and I say that as a New Yorker who know plenty who hated the Yanks or the Mets or vice versa. When you break it down, this is where so many memories were. I went to both last games and think a lot was lost - even Shea, known as a "dump" still had a lot of history. Good luck replacing that overnight.
I liked Shea better then Citi Field. I like the scenery of an open outfield like Shea had,it made the park look bigger. Citi Field is too closed in. At Shea you could see the planes getting ready to land, you could see the subway, the Whitestone bridge etc. Shea had more of a New York atmosphere.
Anyone that thinks this was a great stadium is an idiot. Cry me a river, Yankee Stadium had more history and was a much, much, much better ballpark to watch a ballgame. I went to one game at Shea and my thoughts are it was a fucking dump, why in the hell is everyone shedding tears over losing this shithole?
Geez I am going to miss Shea. How dare you Citi Field! You are an evil stadium! You will never replace Shea or the memories I have had there! You are very right GreaseLover1302.
more personal memories for me there, will never forget the first time i saw Shea, but it is time for a new ballpark and one that is more well suited for baseball.
thts exactly how I felt about the VET, it was only built in 1971 for Gd sakes. The fuckin Coluseaum in Rome has been around for over 2,000 years and we cant keep something for more that 30 lol. Pathetic, its all for the money. Its a damn shame b/c die hards like u and me who have lifelasting memories have to be torn from a place we grew up in all our lives.
This makes me wanna cry. I miss Shea so badly.
