  • THE DOG IS GOLLUM 0.0

  • amazing Disney movie.

  • Anyone else freaked out by this movie when you were younger?

  • @GWAG7 ME. omg, it scared the hell out of me. The only thing I remember from it now (before watching this trailer) was scary skeleton people with scary eyes, though .. I don't think I watched the whole movie at that time, but it still was scary as hell. And after watching the trailer, I really don't recommend it for children who's easily scared ..

  • @synnewv Yea same here. And Gurgi's voice scared the shit outta me

  • i love this movie .... i just love it LIKE!!

  • @Tomblappy when did wileyk209zback say anything about liking it. he said he didn't like it [which was weird]. and you and him are highly mistaking about this great dark film. why? well, here's 3 examples:THE SUBURB ANIMATION, INCREDIBLE MUSIC AND AWESOME EFFECTS. so keep those harsh kind of criticisms to yourself!

  • @mefilms1 Dude, it's just their opinions. It's okay to not like it. I do think the Black Cauldron is a tad underrated, but I can see why it's considered one of the weakest of the canon, though it is on my top 20 Disney animated films (probably ate 20 or 19).

  • good movie

  • My VHS tape of "Pinocchio" (from 1985!) has this same trailer at the beginning

  • @wileyk209zback Three words: THIS MOVIE SUCKS!

  • @FluffyPuff16 well let's see. 1.air conditioner gone crazy and exploded 2.a tree with the face of a monster 3.the clown dream [which scared a lot of kids] 4.the spare part store owner cutting out a blender's motor in a scary way 5.broken appilances acting scary like making scary shadow puppets in 'b movie' 6.cars getting smashed in the dark song called 'worthless' 7. the giant manget takes the master to get smashed [the sky turned red at that point] yep it's dark.

  • I remember watching this movie as a kid....and it freaked me the HELL out. But dame it's a good movie!!!!

  • It does look good, someone I know liked it. It's got the Welsh connection!

  • the fact that its so dark compared to other disney movies makes it great

  • this movie was a box office failure FOR NO REASON!!!!!! they promoted it and they wouldn't give a limited release, but still that box office flop just comes out of nowhere! my brother had a rumor about that failure that is because it is dark, but the brave little toaster and the hunchback of notre dame were dark and they were a big hit, and even watership down [not by disney] was a quick success! so what gives?!

    THE MOVIEGOERS AREN'T MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mefilms1 how was the brave little toaster dark? it was adorable! ...althoug...why was the kid playing with a toaster?

  • @mefilms1 The reason why the movie was box office failure is because of one person, Jeffrey Katzenberg. Before the movie release, Jeffrey didn't like the scenes that are not kid friendly like the bath scene and the Cauldron Born killing people that shows blood. He forced them to cut them off so it won't get a PG-13 or R. But that his biggest mistake, the movie was not for kids. The kids were scared by the Horned King and the Cauldron Born and parents argued about it. That's why it got bombed.

  • The full-length trailer was actually 2:20 long. You can find it on Ebay.

  • There was going to be a henchman character named Moose, but Disney failed to create that character in the end.

  • I don't know why Disney didn't include the trailer for The Black Cauldron on the Walt Disney Gold Classic Collection DVD. Maybe Disney thought the trailer was too scary for younger viewers.

  • I had plush toys of Gurgi and Hen Wen from the original release, but I traded them to someone a few years ago for that famous book on Disney Animation ("The Illusion of Life) with Pinocchio on the cover since I had bought a Grolier sculpture of Taran, Eilonwy, and Gurgi off Ebay and that was enough for me. Wish they had Walt Disney Classics Collection sculptures for this though, and more merchandise in general.

  • @slave2moonlight

Did you see this movie in theaters as a kid and do you think this movie reminds you of He-man at times especially with the Skeletor look-a-like? some fans of the book complaint about this movie, so what if disney changes the original stories? i mean in the original Little Mermaid story the Mermaid dies in the end and nobody complaint as everyone enjoyed it.

  • This is a fascinating film, though it barely feels Disney, and I don't mean because of the darkness, just the music and overall 80's fantasy film tone. It's very cool, I'm just saying I don't get a strong Disney film from it. But, I ADORE Eilonwy, and I wish they would use her in their princess merchandise. Loved Gurgi and the general balls of this movie too (for Disney, anyway), the witch stuff was really great, but Eilonwy was the best thing about it.

  • @slave2moonlight

What's wrong with Disney making an adult fantasy epic like Princess Mononoke, Fire and Ice or Heavy Metal?

  • @Johnlindsey289 No, that's not really what I meant. I just meant that the music and feeling do not seem like a "Disney" production. It felt more like it was from Don Bluth in his early solo days. It feels a lot like watching Secret of NIMH, I mean. I forget if Bluth worked on this one. Didn't he work on it partially? I don't remember. I guess I mean, storywise and overall quality-wise, music and all, it's very good but in some ways feels one notch below Disney and not the Disney-style either.

  • @slave2moonlight

But you still love adult animated movies right? Disney had the balls to make an adult animated fantasy movie similar to Heavy Metal, Fire and Ice, Rock and Rule, Fantastic Planet, Wizards, Princess Mononoke etc. and that's why it's very good because they were aiming for adults like those movies i mentioned.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yes, I do love them. I think Disney was aiming for a more mature audience here, but still kids as well, and I think that's good. Disney needs to always be kid-friendly, because that is their whole identity, but that doesn't mean they can't be adult friendly at the same time. Black Cauldron was a step in the right direction in that regarded, but it could have been polished a lot more to be as great a film over all as something like... Hunchback, for example.

  • @slave2moonlight

This movie has became a cult fave you know. But do you think this movie is as good as Heavy Metal or Mononoke?

  • @Johnlindsey289 But I don't really mean just because it's a fantasy epic or mature, just that it doesn't have the Disney "feel" to it, which is hard to really explain.

  • Great movie! Saw it 2 times in theaters as a kid.

  • @TheAltair4

I really liked it for being very dark and it earned it's PG rating for a good reason and came out the same time as Return to Oz in the same summer. It's not quite like disney when it's more like Dark Crystal, Conan, Heavy Metal and Fire and Ice combined.

  • @TheAltair4

That's awesome! did you had any merchandise like storybook, stuffed Gurgi and that sort of thing?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yeah, i had a couple of Gurgi plush dolls, a storybook and the soundtrack.

  • @TheAltair4

Ellinowy was quite cute don't you think? Horned King looks like Skeletor if you think about it and this was like Disney's answer to Fire and Ice and He-Man. Gurgi sounded like Andy Serkckis's Gollum and did you know Phil Fondacaro from Garbage Pail Kids Movie, Troll and Bordello of Blood is the voice of Creeper? this was the only PG rated animated movie before Atlantis came.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yes, Ellinowy was quite the hottie. Horned King does kind of look like Skeletor and i'm quite sure that Andy Serkis borrowed heavily from Gurgi when he voiced Gollum. Phil Fondacaro has an unmistakeable voice. He was also great in Ghoulies 2 and Land of the Dead.

  • @TheAltair4

He was also in Willow as well

  • @TheAltair4

Do you think Legend of Zelda got ideas from this movie? the film was a hit in Japan and i'm sure Nintendo got ideas when they did the game

  • @Johnlindsey289 It's possible. Legend of Zelda did have some similarities to this film.

  • I don't lika a trailer for ''The Black Cauldron'', just replaced by the 1984 FBI Warning Screens and the 1984 Black Diamond logo before the opening credits, the can usually be seen on the 1985 VHS of ''Pinocchio''.
