the arch vile was a very high end sprite of that day, only a pc could cope with it,a psx could do,but it would compromise gameplay quality too much,as did other factors of doom which were removed
don't forget the levels specially designed for the PSX version, like HELL GATE and HELL KEEP levels, the final 2 levels for this version's Ultimate Doom (TWILIGHT DESCENDS and THRESHOLD OF PAIN maps are huge and challenging) as well as THE MANSION and CLUB DOOM secret levels.
but yeah, slower play and not as many of the tougher monsters.
In some certain areas of Doom II there are times where you fight more than one Archvile. They probably took them out because in coop mode it would make the game too laggy with all the Archvile shit going on at the same time.
I like that the PSX didn't include a boring soundtrack.

How did you get the graphics so good? My version of Playstation Doom is almost unplayable because of the terrible lighting and extreme jagged edges.

the slightly updated graphics and awesome soundtrack make up for it. the music in the gauntlet is really creepy and haunting.

Why in all the ps versions of doom dont have arch viles? Thats dumb and it pissed me off. Why? someone tell me, please, i need to know!

the playstation couldn't keep up with the high amount of animation frames of the arch vile, so they took em out.

PSX Doom is great. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that about 1/4 of Doom II levels were missing, aswell as the Arch Viles.
