I'd say, just add a reel on the output so you can just turn a crank, and it will coil it up, and pull it through in one motion. Then with your free hand you just guide the insulation into the bin.
Put another block behind it with a smooth nail in it... once you get your initial cut in the cable then peel off the insulation for the first foot or so, then put the wire on one side of the nail and the cut insulation on the other. Now when you pull the rest, the nail will separate the insulation for you. (think of a "Y")
hard to make I couldn't get it to work. My blade flexes and bends and the wire insulation just gets under the blade. I screwed the blade down real well but it still wouldn't work.
any tips or ticks to making this thing? It must be hard to get it set just right to be able to just feed the wire in there no problems. I will have to try it.
I am not really good at making stuff!! I just got in to scrapping and I am aching in my hands from stripping wire. Could you make me one and charge me for it?
@mardigras2001 no prob, just DON"T let anyone in the neigborhood see your wire fire. (it may or may not be illegal, depending on your definition of "illegal".... mine is " not illegal if you don't get busted" lol
you could also try a 2x4 horizontally on a doorframe, and drill a hole through the protruding end.. next attatch two razor blades over the hole, with a gap between them. screws on either side of a blade will work ok. now you just feed the wire thru the hole, grab it from the other side, and pull it through.. but your hands will prob get tired.
THE block is good BUT i dont have a heavy work bench just a folding table so i noticed when stripping wire any type by laying on a carpet the blade was able to cut into the insulation easier because the wire sunk in the carpet and hold blade on top pull wire through using pliers in 20 to 30 secs i remove the insulation off a 10 ft lenght ! Truly just by accident i found this out ! Still my joints ache after doing 5 lbs and some electric motors area bitch !
heres anew way i just started doing this any type of wire like above round or falt grab a pack of those carbide grit sanding disk about $6 - $8 use any type of dtiil two pairs of viice clamps and flatsurface on any board work with no longer than 5 ft lenghths I timed myself from clamping stripped and bundled 2 mins and if theres 3 wires in there thats actually thats 15 ft you did ! The disk destroys the insulation outer and double inner on two wire like it just falls off !
OK this looks like it could be in my price range but a few questions first before I am forced to spend...., no, I think I have everything. What is the angle of the blade and how is that angle and the blade secured? Ok, maybe leave the blade flat on the wood and drill the hole at a few degrees downward. I would think a person might need to make several different blocks for different gauges of wire.
@treehood correct differnt blocks for differnt guages of wire are needed but talk about freaking cheap !
I got so much wood from scrap metal it a sin what i throw away in a year i could build a house with it ! THe blades get thick heavy ones for $4 a pack of 5 ! I want to remove ME from stripping cause after doing one or to 20 ft lentghs even with a device like this the old bones ache ! SO drew up plans using two cutting wheels that are adjustable a chaep $15 varaiable speed drill and bam
