  • Dude... I really like metal... but this shit is awesome

  • thank you for the lesson. smooth pickin

  • Great playing my friend! I think you'd enjoy my guitar videos on my channel. Would love to hear from you, thanks for the support!

    -Cat

  • I wanna hear more.

  • The 20 second mark isnt cool enough apparently

  • I have really enjoyed the heated debate about the validity of the video. I have now made the instructional video for the solo free.

  • 5 damn stars! love it!!

  • Yes, it does seem like some people think that a finger on the left hand has to move every time a new note is produced. But, as suggested by a previous post, the right-hand technique of using the flat pick and finger picking together (hybrid) can create a lot of notes quickly. Also, there are undoubtedly a lot of hammers and pulls going on. Folky52

  • Some impossibly dumb comments here. His hand is moving "slow"?

Look up "hybrid picking" and see the light.

That "thing he does" around .08 is a behind the nut bend.

Both of these techniques are so common in chicken picking and country music so as to be laughable to have to explain it. Joke is on me I guess!

  • fender stratocaster

  • The motherfucker it's not even playing you idiots!

  • Comment removed

  • @zepoletto If you played guitar, you would have known that he IS actually playing the guitar, idiot!

  • @T30IsC00l Frist thing: the music and the guitar solo are in the same volume, so it's been equalized, and then it's probably a recording. Second: his left hand is very slow, so dont' matches with all that speed.

Just for the record, yes i do play guitar, you piece of shit.

  • @zepoletto No,his hand is actually matching the speed of the solo.I'm not sure about the thing that he has done at 0:08,but i think that he atually plays the guitar .

  • @zepoletto And I don't think he'd buy a Fender just to fake his guitar playing,right?

  • @T30IsC00l And who said that the guitar belongs to him?

  • if i had a dollar for every pixel on your video i'd still be poor...good playing anyways!

  • Damn rednecks...

    :P

  • Love that string bend on the top of the headstock. Very Cool.

  • if bettoven was alive in this life time, and heard that.....he would quit classical, and go country.

  • @negativewaves1 but Beethoven was deaf- tho this shits pretty cool. thumbs man

  • I detest modern C&W, but have the highest regard for the genre's best guitarists. They play so clean and tasty. Get a Telecaster and Deluxe Reverb for yourself and learn to appreciate....

  • Two Thumbs Up !!!!!!!!!!

  • It's freakin' Chuck Norris!

  • @mietschyslaw lol thats what i was thinking

  • wow nice bending trick, i will use it!!!

  • Sweet pickin. Sounds like Roscoe is hot on the trail of the Duke boys!

  • Don Rich was the man when it came to Chicken Pickin. I grew up around Bakersfield and got to see them back in the day. When he got killed on his Motorcycle, it was a sad day...year...still.

  • You are a total badass.... Thanks for posting!

  • they didnt start chassing us til u put on that get away music

  • 14 people just got their chickens picked!!!

  • Dang this is just bad ass X

  • Awesome

  • Awesomeness! You sound great!

  • Chuck Norris is really good at the guitar.

  • @Elb0ng0 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • I guess it was nice, but not my cup of tea. Didn't tickle my ears. =\

  • that is real playing!

  • WOW I'm not normally a Guitar solo kind of gal but, I really enjoyed that. Took me back to when I was a kid and watching heehaw with the family and going to see my dad in his band. :-) Thanks for the memories. Have a great weekend.

  • DAMN son! What just happened? Did I just get laid? haha

  • Love it

  • fucking yeahh ahahahah ^^'

  • great black hats r better

  • Best 20 seconds of guitar playing on YouTube.

  • Isn't this how people used to play the guitar

    Good ol boy

  • sweet

  • Strong !

  • awesome

  • great picking!

  • AWESOME!!

  • Chicken picking's ok but I prefer turkey tugging.

  • @whitbyjet65 ahahahh

  • Oh, yeah!

  • ..nice.

  • I don't even like country, and that was badass.

  • Great stuff brother

  • Holy SH!T!!! I want to play guitar like that guy!

  • freaking awesome

  • Nice work, dude

  • Great playing. The only thing wrong with this vid is that it's only 20 seconds.

  • @rct488

take a look @ Andy Timmons - Farmer Sez ;-)

  • Great playing!

  • real nice, nice nutbend too!!

  • Nice! Give us something more lengthy in the futuer...

  • b-bender

  • GREAT!

  • Brilliant!!

  • im pretty sure ive seen this video a shit load of times and ive seen shit load of other videos and still I think this is the best of the best

  • pretty damn cool chicken picking!!

  • tip top

  • good!!

  • Quite possibly the best 20 second guitar clip on You tube.

  • Dude - I've watched this clip countless times and I just wish it was longer - Technically amazing and like someone said before I've never seen the D bend from headstock before - reminds me of the Byrds - I'd love it if you upload something a bit longer, becuase it's brilliant :-)

  • great men!!!! very cool!!!

  • Pretty good, but there's not really any chicken picking' in there per se. The 9th measure sounds like you're getting ready to do some chicken pickin', but your title is a bit misleading.

  • Damn, that's pretty cool! I've never seen anybody do that type of string bend on stage xD

  • Man, I love metal, but this rapes it up the ass

  • @tatersalad4real yeahe sure as heel it does:p

  • LOL - not sure I woulda said it quite like that, but I know what you mean brother... ;-))))

  • @shearn666 aha lol

  • @tatersalad4real I know man. Randy Rhoads learned to play classical guitar and used it in metal. I'd love to learn how to chicken pick and use it in Metal.

  • @tatersalad4real Metal is pretty much one chord. You should look at jazz too.

  • @Antiks72 troll

  • @Augenatic Not all all.

  • @Antiks72 well then i can tell you that metal is more than just one chord

  • @Antiks72 yes it's many chords, E5 and A5 and maybe some chromatics inbetween

  • how long have you been playing guitar for?

  • hey this good a lot better then gary moore who i saw in april he is a rigth tosser all he dose is tell fans who paid to see to fuck off al;l the time

  • SHUT UP AND HERE!

  • whats that meen then i am in the uk dont understand ?

  • OPEN DOWN AND THERE!

  • XDDD

  • lol he reminds me of my unlce dean mixed with chuck norris and some other dude

  • you look like chuck norris with that beard, maby you are??

  • WTF?!? Who the F is this guy? he's great!

  • lol! cowboy!

  • how do you get that telecaster sound from a strat?

  • It sounds like a strat to me honestly. But bridge pup, lots of treble, fair amount of mid, low bass.

  • a lot of treble i reckon :P

  • cowboy!

  • i want to play like you!

  • what's a good way to learn some of these chicken pickin scales? I know most of it is derived from the pentatonic scale but then it's like it goes into a minor or something?

  • its usually major pentatonic. blues is minor pentatonic.

  • Take all of your minor pentatonic blues licks and move them down a step and a half to the relative minor of the key you're playing in. They're not all going to sound right, but it's a good starting point. So if you're playing a song in G, play the Em pentatonic. You'll start to hear what works and what doesn't.

  • wow i dont know what any of that means really. i play by ear as anyone can tell in my videos. but thanks anyway. Best, kdjfnvjd jdbwbkwl

  • You're actually doing it without knowing it in that SRV Blues video of yours. Great playing by the way. :) At :23, where you start the Testify solo, that whole passage is based on the E minor pentatonic (blues) scale. When you go to Rude Mood, you're still playing in E, but since it has a much more major feel to it, you're doing what I described in the 1st post, playing the pentatonic scale a step and a half down (Db minor). You can hear yourself do it at :50.

  • haha wow i never saw it that way so it's good to know so thank you. i been practising this country playin' lately and i want to post a vid soon. check it and let me know what u think. always good to hear someomes opinion who knows whats goin' on.

  • Could I have some of that speed you're on?

  • HeeHaw !!! Great ! ;°)

  • Bravo, sir!

  • DAMN IT MAN, THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT

  • Real men wear any color hat they want! LOL :)

  • Very nice!!! You look like a weirdo though.

  • God damn, killer man!

  • this is by far the best solo ive heard on youtube

  • i really liked this lol, short and fun

  • awesome!

  • to play it right a white hat is needed

  • Bending before the nut is where it's at! =D

  • great stuff - video quality unfortunate - guitar skill 5/5

  • Where's the rest of it!?!

  • great job!

  • The only chicken im pick'in comes in a bucket,,,damn thats good guitar play'in, there's just no end of what one can do on a guitar, and no two guitar players ever sound alike.

  • Como toca el jodio paleto !!!, se ve que domina la tecnica del chiken friend poin pikin punbin cirueling.

Yeeeepaaaa, o como dicen en euya Jiiiiiiihaaa

  • I just plain suck. I have played 30 years and I can't play that.

  • jesus, you need to practice.

  • No, you probably play like me. I've played more than 30 yrs and can't play that, but I don't think I suck. You probably don't either. If you can play at all, that's better than the average person here on earth!

  • Yeah I'm always hard on myself because if I think I'm good then I get no better. Yeah dude can chicken-pick but lets see how he does at high-gain Les Paul blues. I think I would do better. I guess my main point is I, as an accomplished professional guitar player, look up to guys who tear it up like this. Eddie Van Halen was great but country guys out pick him hands down.

    Oh feel that pain...

  • one cant be amazing at every music style out there. otherwise, one should become 150 years old (at least). maybe then one can master every style :)

  • buckethead has mastered the most

  • ROFL

    ya sure...

check out guthrie govan, maybe he mastered a lot, but still not the most.

    but not buckethead, come on...

no offense against buckethead eh, but you will find out in some time, that he didnt :)

  • blues, metal, experimental, rock, electronica, acoustic(if that's even a genre)

you really can't judge unless you have heard the majority of buckethead's stuff

    which is over 50 albums

  • and funk

  • i dont think he mastered metal to be honest. i dont think he mastered electronica tbh. 2 genres that i know very good. he did some stuff, but mastering means sth else to me.

    and i know bucketheads stuff.

    do you know jonas hellborg?

  • in search of the

listen to that album. and kaleidoscalp.

    no i dont

  • see? :D

ehm, okay, i know them. and now i still think the same :D anyways mate! have a good week, i would rather drink a beer with you than discuss (although youre not old enough for it) :)

  • fair enough

    all music is opinionated anyway

  • true true, but then theres guthrie govan

  • guthrie > all

  • btw, thanks at least someone understands differences.. :]

  • picker texas ranger!

  • this boy can play YEEHAW

  • Well done Chuck Norris

  • what a devine comment decky :D

  • Thank you (: I thought the resemblance was a bit suspicious

  • Stratfink is the only cat on youtube who could break a string and still make it Honk like that! Go CAT GO!!!! Choke that neck and squeeze the notes out of that plank, Buck, Danny, Roy, and Hank are the greats you have to Thank! But mainly Thanks for standing up and giving YOUTUBE viewers your talent!!

  • HOLY MOLY, That was GREAT!

  • It's chuck norris = texas ranger walker

  • fucking quality!

  • Go Stratfink! Go!

    I agree with D4athPanda.

Play it on a Tele and play the entire song!

    Buck Owens rules!

  • Id really like to see you play the whole version - Actually Id really love to see you do an instructional video on this?

  • I'm with tom, I'd like to see that broken down because it's badass

  • you make speed metal guys look like crap!

  • which most of them are anyway

  • when i listen to shred metal like dragonforce it just makes me laugh so much because they cannot play live AT ALL!, there name is the most cheeseyest name you can think of, and it sounds like shit!

  • dragonforce can't play but go see some Children of bodom or quo vadis, live are same as album

  • Sounds great but it'd sound greater on a TELE!

  • Agreed!!! Look for a new video coming soon.

  • tim

  • How do you get that tone? GREAT!

  • Quite good! Well picked!

  • might be the best 20 second video on youtube

  • Totally agree

  • totally the best 20 second on youtube

  • sounds kinda like brad paisley's style. good job, keep it up.

  • AWESOME man! just wondering, why is the middle pickup removed in your strat.

  • could a black pickup?

    but this is good (:

  • It is indeed a black pickup. Shortly before recording this video my middle pickup went out and this random pickup was put in while I waited for a new one. The Neck and Bridge are Dimarzio HS-3's and the middle is now a Dimarzio HS-2. Thanks for watching!

  • you have got those bends down nicely

  • normacagle: You asking that reminds me of what Keith Urban did to a Tele that had three pickups. He had two of the pickups removed.

  • oh Dude, that kills ! I like when you bent strings over the neck!

  • how do you get a guitar to sound like that

  • Wow you are a super picker. I enjoyed thanks.

  • damn, nice country sound for a strat, but also GREAT pickin my friend !

  • WOOOAH!!! Great!!!! ;o)

  • write "hernan gonzalez country boy" it's amazing!!!
