All this planning, and if they would have simply tested the digital antenna in a wind tunnel at 5 mph, they would have abandoned this stupid proposal for the digital conversion after they realized that most of signal remains 98% scrambled. I think anybody who gets a Nelson's T.V. rating guide, should record the number of times they lose signal. Let the networks fix the signal strength problem when it hits them in the pocketbook with lost ratings.
Well, Im only 50 miles out and have a very high gain outdoor antenna with a booster, still the signal drops out completely.....I cant even get PBS , which I used to get crystal clear.
Doesnt matter how much lip service you give all this DTV stuff, its still worse than analog when it comes to reliabilty.
50 miles out is not easy for UHF, measure the UHF antenna portion of your high gain antenna and make one like it with the boom 8 to12 ft long. Good Luck
An antenna I bought prior to DTV was bought for $70, and still holding up. It's made for both low & high VHF, plus UHF. The newest antenna I have along side it is high VHF & UHF. I only bought that one for the UHF portion because a UHF station broadcasts in a different direction. Since WBBM-TV switched their DT channel from 3-12, my older antenna would no longer be needed for 2-6, since no one uses 2-6 anymore locally. I still use that one because it still good. The other one only costs $25
Everything he talks about, I agree with, except for his pricing for antennas. I bout a pair of rabbit ears for $3.00. I bought an amplified UHF/VHF Outdoor antenna for $35.00 . You can buy (roughly) a 60 element VHF/UHF Rooftop amplified antenna and all of the parts for about $100- $150, depending upon what brands, and types of amplification. I wouldn't pay $400-$500 like he said. They are EXTREMELY simple to setup yourself, so don't bother with help =)
PBS stations that use bugs are truly the height of evil.

I ended up building a Gray-Hoverman antenna. Problem solved. However, not everyone will be as fortunate to construct one.
