@DarkGrif What do you mean by normal? FULL of RMT and security issues? Chronoscrolls along with other security measures are mean to make the game more stable and secure. YOU never have to use the Chronoscrolls but you will benefit from the players who use them instead of using RMT.

thats the thing about the games coming out in october/november, as a student, i have most of the free time in summer, durring which came out maybe 1 or 2 games for 360?and these werent any good games at the best (old pc sucks, so doesnt really count games on ps, since i cant run most of it) now that new semester is going to begin, there will be milion games, litteraly milion, some really good ones, but there just wont be enought time to play. as for me, i dont like this bussines model at all
What I don't get is why you hardly never see any summer releases. One would think that "oh, holiday season is oversaturated, let's release it in the summer when people have more time on their hands." That and if you release you big AAA game in the summer there would be virtually no competition. To me it seems like a no brainer.
i think these companies are releasing these games around the same time because they want to finish up the sales of the system's games (mostly console) so they can out with a new console for better games. so i think they're trying to go out with a big bang.

Have you ever used a site called Onlive before? Its a very interesting gaming site. The games you purchase require no minimum requirements so anyone can use it.
I get most of my games around November December time as it's my birthday and Xmas so I tend to ask for games. So the games coming out at that time are great for me as I can just ask for them as presents instead of having to buy them myself

You have to fight both humans and monsters, you shoot, you can use gravity to stop/launch stuff, you can age both living and objects, and you can launch ball of energies that slows everyone caught in it.

And by "normal and incredibly linear" there truly is only one way around the missions, in which you are required to do things in a very obvious and repetitive fashion, that most games abuse (eg all call of duties)
But you are correct, lacking linearity does not constitute a good game, but does add depth.
I lived in alaska for a few years, and worked at a store that sold video games... and I remember November being a super busy sales month. however in Alaska thats because every person gets 1-2,000 dollars from the state for oil. so a large percent of the population just try to spend that money on things they would normally not buy. a lot of movies sale out of that store, and almost all video games sell. it would be different in other states, but I see why November release works in Alaska.
@randomenigma59 every person that has lived in Alaska for over 1 year gets the money every year in October or November, families that have 10 children will get the money for each of their children the parents can choose what do do with it until the kids reach 18. most parents spend the money for their kids, some put it in savings accounts for college funds.

@Brazinger2 WoW is such a grind and repetitive and GW2 isn't even out yet. They only say like 3 different dynamic events so they don't give the whole game away.

@soundslave Steam is an example of drm that actually works. It's almost completely invisible to the paying customer. It also rewards that customer for buying, by offering features like automatic updates, a nice game library system and friends. That's the only way for drm to work really, by rewarding the paying customer (as opposed to harassing the paying customer, which a lot of companies seem to think is a good idea).
@Astor4o Exactly. Less botting, hacking, spamming, and theft. All the players who already buy gold will continue to do so but with less impact on the game security. All the players who do not bu gold will still not buy gold even though Chronoscrolls makes it legal to do so.
If anyone knows how to solve the problem of players wanting RMT to "get ahead quick" then i'd love to know. To me RMT is silly because in a game like TERA the best items are BoP so you don't get that much ahead at all.

IMO cod is a now a kiddys game compared to almost ANY shooter i have played recently it doesnt require skill bfbc2 i will have a kd usually negative but i will play the game mode brink-positive kd cus its just against cpu still fun. cod i would be seriously challenged to go less than 5 kills per death (this sounds nooby) and i gave up on blkops because of its serious lack of realism and the slow clunky feel of the game. looking foward to bf3 deux ex and the mw3 survival (if i get the game)
Too be honest I don't think it's fair to blame singularity for it's linearity. Half Life is also a very linear game, and it's one of the best games ever made.

@Hampson599 Well you've contradicted yourself there a little. With every new FIfa comes new mechanics, updated leagues and players, new single player and online modes. Although I do agree they don't need to make 1 every year. A better practice would be to just update leagues and players through patches and to not release another one for around 3 years, so people can actually play it before the servers inevitably shut down. How to solve the problem with gold farmers: Remove all possibilities of trading with other people. All gold and equip must be earned by oneself. This would make any MMO so, so, so much better.
@rottenpancakes I an MMO removed all gold, trading, and selling. If all items were BoP. Then that game would be full of RMT still just in the form of botting and account selling.
@AnimeAffair Account selling isn't really a problem. The sale of gold and equip is the biggest problem. If you buy an account filled with gold and items it's a one time thing. You could never buy more gold or buy more items, except form NPC's. It's also much harder to sell a whole account than gold, so it wouldn't be as lucrative.

You have to fight both humans and monsters, you shoot, you can use gravity to stop/launch stuff, you can age both living and objects, and you can launch ball of energies that slows everyone caught in it.
How is Singularity even remotely "normal and incredibly linear" ?
Somethimes I hate the addiction that TB has to completely shut down games simply because they don't offer you 65 different ways of getting past a particular zone.
being NON linear does NOT make the game automatically better.

@H4RDS7YL3R to be fair, your second point is fairly accurate, but at the same time, my initial thoughts on which game it was you were referring to in your first paragraph was Bioshock 2.
And by "normal and incredibly linear" there truly is only one way around the missions, in which you are required to do things in a very obvious and repetitive fashion, that most games abuse (eg all call of duties)
But you are correct, lacking linearity does not constitute a good game, but does add depth.

I lived in alaska for a few years, and worked at a store that sold video games... and I remember November being a super busy sales month. however in Alaska thats because every person gets 1-2,000 dollars from the state for oil. so a large percent of the population just try to spend that money on things they would normally not buy. a lot of movies sale out of that store, and almost all video games sell. it would be different in other states, but I see why November release works in Alaska.

@randomenigma59 every person that has lived in Alaska for over 1 year gets the money every year in October or November, families that have 10 children will get the money for each of their children the parents can choose what do do with it until the kids reach 18. most parents spend the money for their kids, some put it in savings accounts for college funds.

Lucky me I just got demon souls so I'm playing that till skyrim is out then playing that till the sales after christmas =) if worst comes to worst and demon souls doesn't last that long by the time I've got bored of it I can buy a second hand copy of deus ex to hold me out.

hmm eve is a game with a beautiful concept one of the things that gives the game more power over other games and makes it special is the 1 in game huge economy.

@soundslave Steam is an example of drm that actually works. It's almost completely invisible to the paying customer. It also rewards that customer for buying, by offering features like automatic updates, a nice game library system and friends. That's the only way for drm to work really, by rewarding the paying customer (as opposed to harassing the paying customer, which a lot of companies seem to think is a good idea).

@Astor4o Exactly. Less botting, hacking, spamming, and theft. All the players who already buy gold will continue to do so but with less impact on the game security. All the players who do not bu gold will still not buy gold even though Chronoscrolls makes it legal to do so.
If anyone knows how to solve the problem of players wanting RMT to "get ahead quick" then i'd love to know. To me RMT is silly because in a game like TERA the best items are BoP so you don't get that much ahead at all.

@mettwurst01 It's simply because the matter of Steam drm and having to be online to play comes up so often. He simply tell us what he does in a case like that (see his train example) and he's obviously pleased with gamersgate's service which is why he continues to use it. Would you like him to lie and tell us he buys his games somewhere else? And by the way, he also mentions Steam a lot, but you're not wondering if he's in contract with Valve?

IMO cod is a now a kiddys game compared to almost ANY shooter i have played recently it doesnt require skill bfbc2 i will have a kd usually negative but i will play the game mode brink-positive kd cus its just against cpu still fun. cod i would be seriously challenged to go less than 5 kills per death (this sounds nooby) and i gave up on blkops because of its serious lack of realism and the slow clunky feel of the game. looking foward to bf3 deux ex and the mw3 survival (if i get the game)

Too be honest I don't think it's fair to blame singularity for it's linearity. Half Life is also a very linear game, and it's one of the best games ever made.

It's a little thing that people do, that means nothing to 1 person. But if everybody does it, it will kill off those great games that won't have the funding coz there were never made.

I buy each new CoD game to
1) Play with my friends
2) Experience new maps, guns, perks, campaign, mechanics and playing experiences.
PES and Fifa are terrible series, simply because infootball no new rules or ways to win can be introduced, in CoD you get different ways to play with each game. For the same reasons, I buy every Halo and every Final Fantasy.

@Hampson599 Well you've contradicted yourself there a little. With every new FIfa comes new mechanics, updated leagues and players, new single player and online modes. Although I do agree they don't need to make 1 every year. A better practice would be to just update leagues and players through patches and to not release another one for around 3 years, so people can actually play it before the servers inevitably shut down. (Stupid EA)

@AnimeAffair Account selling isn't really a problem. The sale of gold and equip is the biggest problem. If you buy an account filled with gold and items it's a one time thing. You could never buy more gold or buy more items, except form NPC's. It's also much harder to sell a whole account than gold, so it wouldn't be as lucrative.
