@southrules a bar is the space between the two vertical lines on sheet music. It can also be called a 'measure'. In 4/4 time there would be 4 beats to the measure or bar.

It's a decent lesson up to the 'how to hold the pick part'. Because you can't do it don't say it can't be done. If you're dragging your pick that means you're going too deep with the lead edge of the pick. If you intend to play any kind of fast single note leads you need to use the skinny part of that pick for alternate or circle picking. Keep trying and eventually you'll get it......

@guitgeo yeh...ive been playin for 20 yrs and ive never held a pick like hes showin...and i dont dig into the strings either ..if your doin that move the pick outward alittle ...playing this way it seems to me that it would make you sound sloppy as hell...just my 2cents

@arkee71 Twisting the pick so the attack is out of parallel to the string is another way to get less pick surface to string contact thus allowing more speed and sometimes a different like an octave jump or pitch shift to a related note...btw -two cents beats no sense..{^;^}

A progression is the order in which the chords of a song are arranged.

If you know the "C Major Scale" which is made of eight notes: C D E F G A B

Then we say We have in the Key of C->I or 1chord, D->II or 2 chord, E-> III or 3chord, ect.

When we harmonize each of those 8 notes, we get different scales also called modes and that harmonization, gets chords.

In C major I chord is C major, II chord is D minor, III chord is E minor

@perfectagrl723 IV chord is F major, V chord is G major triad but if we continue to harmonize it with a minor seventh, we get dominant 7 chord, in this case it would be G7 chord because we are in the jey of C major. VI chord is A minor and finally VII chord is B diminished (1b3b5bb7). The names of the modes are: I Ionian II Dorian III Phrigyan IV Lydian V Mixolydian VI Aeloian VII Locrian. I hope i didn't confuse you. Hope that helps!

Your phrasing is fucked in terms of traditional blues. Your picking is a shortcut that lacks control and will prolly hurt your students in the long run, hope you've updated since 2006. Im sure you helped a few beginners out with this lesson and for that I thank you but you should do some research before you get people to develop your bad habits phrasing and pickingwise. my advice is it depends on what music you like. if you like rock go for electric. if you like softer songs acoustic.

i have both and prefer the electric because of the strings are not as thick and easier to play but i would say acoustic sounds better. might take longer to learn though. good luck
