Soil type does come into it. But horses for courses i guess. But too many people think that you can just stick a big tractor on and go for it. I farm heavy blue clay in suffolk with an old 698 2wd.All i can say is look after your tractor, weight it right, keep the plough good and dont bitch!!
What a load of rubbish. That isn't ploughing, he had just as well be ploughing up a sandy beach for all the good he's doing. I'd like to see them plough some virgin land and then we'll see how good it is.
sounds like a lot of bad losseres out there, why dont they bring there green shit out and see what they can do,massey was working the land before john deer was even thought about.
actually, that's not true. Massey was founded by Daniel Massey, who started producing farm implements in 1847. John Deere started producing his steel plows 1837. By the time that Massey opened his workshop, Deere was already commercially viable and producing 100+ plows annually.
I would like to see them sink that into the soil at our farm. that thing would stop dead in its tracks. white clay and gumbo, o I forgot to mention the rocks too
My elder brother sent me the link to this with the comment, "I'd like to see them try that in NE Kansas alfalfa fields!". I second that! In addition you can't call it plowing when the ground was already worked. Now, you're just aerating already overworked soil and losing topsoil.
sounds funny when u say sweet pots and peanuts been farmed we grow 120 acre of cider apples which is a big area for somerset england . we run a ferguson 3 cylinder no 47 of the first pruduction line which my grandad bought new in the 60s !
fuel prices and over all tight asses of the area although a distint family member up in age tends like 50 acres of soybeans is breakin his next year he said he can justify it after spraying for weeds 4 times
Well, up here in Canada, Diesel has been dropping slightly. Maybe it will keep going down, who knows. Were Organic, so we don't spray. It's surprising how much all your spray costs after you add it all up. We only bottom plow now.
yea fuels coming down a 2 n a half gallon jug is like between 65 n 95 dollars and that adds up after a while how many acres do you tend and what part of the country
Were in South western Ontario, Canada. We tend 1600 acres. We grow organic soybeans & corn. We also tend about 700 acres a year of customer land. You?
I work on 3 different farms 1 800 acres with 85 acres in tobacco and 100 acres of hay and the second tends 1300 acres of straight hay and the last has 10 poultry houses do they farm tobacco near your farm. and what kind of equipment do yall run
Nah, no Tobacco. The main things grown around here are Soybeans, Wheat, Corn, Hay, and sometimes Oats and Sugarbeets. We run the Deeres. I do some work on a Massey farm though, and if I expressed my opinions about Massey Furguson equipment I would get a lot of people hating me. What kind do you run? Do you live on a farm yourself or do ya just work on them?
nah I just work the farms I hate fergusons imma deere man we plant 75 acres of oats for cows and horses and we disc our land I have never broke any I love to work in the hay mainly theres alot of sweet potatoes around here and alot of peanuts
Holds the record but tractor wasn't stock like the Case IH was that they broke.

@bakeleewifey the fact is that it can pull/push it, actually ploughing isn't much effort cuz it jus slices threw the ground like a knife threw butter

The new world record for ploughing was set by the Case IH STX500 with a 20 furrow plough. 321.17 ha in 24 hours or 13.375ha/hour.
1 Bull would take a year to do that.the tractor averaged 4.485 minutes/hectare

For all of the people bitching about the soil type:
Farmers who use large rigs such as this can becuase they have suitable land to do so that is easible workable.
All becuase you own 150 Acre in some remote hills and can't plough for shit with your 4 furrow doesn't mean we all need to hear about it.
