It isn't a sickness nor a condition , all a feral child has is a different understanding of the world and how to interact with it. I'm not sure...most of these children were sick after soming out on confinment or the wild with parasites, rashes, underdevolped brains and things, and their "horrible condition" was that they were either raised by wild animals or not raised at all. A tribe in Africa has a family and is not being confined or raied by a pak of wild, rabid dogs.

Genie was locked in her bedroom for 13 years. She was locked in a cage at night, and strapped to a potty chair all day. Her father was mentally ill and turned his back on her after the death of his mother. When she was found, she was 13 years old, but the size of a 6 year old. No one in the busy neighborhood even knew a girl lived there.

hey basicly when you reach certain stages in your life the brain cuts strands that link different parts together if they are not used. so basicly if you dont use it you lose it. she had not used speech but was able to learn certain words. but it was impossible for her to string a sentence together as this part of the brain was not active. this is a very very simple explanation but if you want to know more i will be happy to point you in the right direction. hope this helps.

I think your missing an aspect in this whole thing here. Most of those left to the wild are abandoned for a reason and that is the failure of the family to either relate to or teach anything to the individual. If an individual does not learn then hope is lost; hence, you will need to think about science and what it has proven about the education of those with disabilities to hope to impact the abandoning of those who are mentally deficient.
