damn....i've never heard horn vibrato for this piece...I'm playing this in my college orchestra. I don't think i'll use vibrato lol. very beautiful, though.
dang it, 6:29-6:50 needs to be slowed waaaay down! HATE HATE HATE arrangements that rush this section! It's supposed to be big and dramatic, not 'how fast can I play loud, staccato notes on the trumpet'
Basically good, but parts of the finale played way too fast. And that brass (trumpet) section was off with the timing and a broken note here and there, which is inexcusable for a professional orchestra, and the final couple of minutes of this piece were a big sloppy mess.
@TheDNA12345 Yeah, I know. You know what's awesome? I get to play that part for this piece, and I just got into wind ensemble, the higher level band, this year. And also because I am the only french horn in the ensemble :P
@dimsimlord It's been traditional for many years for Russian horn players to play with vibrato. And this is a Russian piece and probably a Russian orchestra playing it.
Couldn't have been the Chicago phil. Sounded like the Mendota Philharmonic or possibly Modesto. A little too much trumpet in the balance for my taste toward the end. Kind of munched a note there. Hey but what do I know....I'm a tubist.

Woot, I'm a freshman, and I get to play this! I really hope I get to play principle oboe XD Yea, if our f horns attempt vibrato, I might have to get out my reed knife...
@Stoneripple1 Ok, I'm a horn player myself, and I was listening to that thinking my headset was warping it or something. Nope, it's just some horn player being weird o.O
@jmuhorn99 Yeah it was a different sound for the horn in that section wasn't it. I have played this piece a number of times and never heard the horn vibrato like that. Definitely weird.
the berecuse was GOOD!! unfortunately, the finale killed the whole thing. trumpets were missing notes, they were playing WAAAAAY too fast, and did i sense some rushing?
Indeed, the Berceuse was expertly done. But I've always believed that this piece lives or dies by the execution of the finale. And I have to agree with "EricCourtneyHaines" that the finale was "Clipped and staccato." Also I really disliked the vibrato in the french horn solo. The statement of the horn is critical, and it must be strong -- not "cute," which is exactly what it sounds like. All told, I'd have to say this piece is disappointing.
This time I agree with you. I liked it but I personally prefer it full and powerful rather then the cute and playful you spoke about; both in the opening and the the 7/4 time.
