@Morgethein Very true its why i found the film sad and disgusting at times, and then i realized its not the film its the world that makes me feel like that. I guess its hard to face reality but come on guns didnt need to exist why not peace and just enjoying life it makes so much more sense. My opinion dosnt change about guns, but that dosent change that this is a good movie.
its an allegorical film, and its pretty real, however its so real that its disgusting. and at the same time beautiful in some parts. A real film not like movies today. only thing i didnt like was the sandy western setting i would have picked a more tropical setting but then thoe whole movie would hav to change i guess. and i hate guns.
When he describes what El Topo is it sounds like what Breaking Bad is. That show is effin ludacris and the first episode of season 4 is named El Topo. This movie looks interesting and if you havn't seen Breaking Bad, please do so,
@skubaro All I can tell you is that "el topo" is Spanish for "the mole", and they explain why they call the film El Topo in a voice over at the start of the picture. That and they give away what happens to the protagonist in the trailer, but you have to know who the protagonist is to have the movie spoiled for you.

amazing, Alejandro Jodorowsky at his best ... then again when isn't he? minus the rainbow thief, and tusk (which were mainly directed for financial purposes, and he was guided by the producers and such).
@Skulldini i can only imagine how amazing it could have been. Lynch although i love MOST of his work, really made a piece of garbage after taking over the project.
im just upset that jodorowsky has so much trouble now finding funding for his films, i would have loved to see Able & Cain come full cirlce.
@limabeing It was actually John himself who promoted the film and got it out of the "underground movie" status and into the public eye. Here's some more trivia: Peter Gabriel, former Genesis vocalist, was inspired to create the famous concept album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" after watching El Topo :)
I'm not the brightest film critic, but I believe the man and the mole represent humanity. Digging for comfort, and seeking truth, but not being able to handle or enjoy it. I think people tell themselves that this film is simply 'trippy' because the statements it actually makes about humanity, love, and religion, are too brutally honest for anyone who wants to try and enjoy life to admit or think about..
Are you sure it isn't because the there's no coherent story, character motivation, or knowledge of video technique? It's not brutally honest, it's the serious dick stroking of an unstable man. Anyone who exploits his child (because the naked boy is Jodorowsky's son) by hvaing him needlessly naked for the the first half of the movie is a seriously damaged person.
@cheesus948 There is plenty said in this film, did you not watch it until the end? I'd rather not spoil the story for anyone here. He is exploiting his son because he was naked at the age of two on film? At least he didn't exploit the audience and put your fat dorky ass up on stage.
@Apoliteia Well, regarding MOVIES, it used to mean basicaly any flick featuring alot of sex , violence and controversial subject matter. But they dont use that term much TODAY, .. now that we have that stuff in regular mainstream movies and all over television .

@nephsam Se que soy gracioso, y se como pronunciar correctamente México obviamente, no me confundas con un gringo por favor.
