You can still hear this used for Yankees radio broadcasts. When I hear this song - I can still remember sitting on the living room floor as a kid watching a game on WPIX (in the late 80's). I miss those days! I actually have this theme recorded on VHS from WPIX from the '89 season somewhere. ( I miss those games with "The Scooter" Phil Rizzuto, alongside Bill White)

Remember when the Yanks were on 1010 WINS? I liked that song, too. "When Reggie swings, NewYork wins". I haven't thought about that for years. Great stuff
As a Yankee fan back in the 70s, and remembering watching them with my Dad during the summer of 1977 on WPIX Channel 11, it brings tears to my eyes to hear this theme again. He passed in mid-July 1978. Yankees were 14 out. They came back to win it all. Bucky's 7th inning Home Run will FOREVER be my Dad's loud & clear message to me that he was doing alright, as he always told me the 7th inning was the Yankees' inning.
This isn't the version from 11 alive..I'll be really impressed if someone can find that one... 77 ABC radio also used it..It was more lively than this one
@robbyb26 This is the most alive version. That 1980s version was the redone sterile version which copied the over-produced sterility of Top 40 radio.
Man, the memories of listening to the intro to Yankee games on WPIX in the 1970's while I was growing up in Connecticut. Thanks for the upload. It's always nice to remember something nice from childhood.
Would you believe that was off the top of my head? Well, believe it -- it's true. Brings me back to the memory that lingers in my mind of throwing my TV out the window, through the screen, after a late inning grand slam loss to the Tigers.
Anyway, "Bill" was a reference to when Rizzuto finished reading that disclaimer and said, "Bill..." turning to Bill White to take over the play by play!
I'm Jeff :-)
PS I think I missed "accounts of this game, or any segment" before "thereof".
@stuckonthepike Ahahaah!! I called you Bill!! I just realized it was Bill White! Really, thanks for keeping my Yankee memories alive. YANKEES ARE #1 ALWAYS! The Murcer, White, Munson, Pinella years were my favorite!

@IceManNJD - Actually, this recording (by Sid Bass' orchestra) was from 1967. That was the year this recording (and the vocal version thereof) was issued as a single on Columbia Records (#4-44083).
This was the recording heard at the beginning and end of every Yankee telecast through 1981 or so, with either of the "Voices of 11 Alive," Bill Biery or Ralph Lowenstein, mentioning who the game's "participating advertisers" were.
Thanks for the upload. Brings back great memories. Will always love the Scooter. I used to listen to night games during the school year by putting a radio under my pillow and hoping my parents wouldn't catch me!
"...and by Schaefer beer, the one beer to have, when you're having more than one". ..............Good afternoon everybody, I'm Phil Rizzuto, with Bill White and Frank Messer

@pheekuh "..............Good afternoon everybody, I'm Phil Rizzuto, with Bill White and Frank Messer"
HOLY COW! What memories indeed. Alas, Frank Messer and the Scooter have both gone to the big broadcast booth in the sky. Only Bill White is still with us today. I will ALWAYS remember his call of Bucky Dent's (he's known a F***ing Dent in Red Sox Nation) HR at Fenway Park on October 2, 1978:
"DEEP TO LEFT......YASTREMSKI....WILL NOT GET IT! IT'S A HOME RUN!
I think I forgot that, for cars, their sponsor was Toyota... "Oh, what a feeling!" They also were sponsored by ConEdison, and by Panasonic... "Slightly ahead of our time."
Brought to you by: Manufacturer's Hanover Savings & Trust... by Getty Gasoline... by Canon, the official camera of the Yankees... by TWA... by Budweiser; when you say Bud, you said it all... by Oldsmobile... and by THE NEW YORK YANKEES.
---
IIRC, when the Yankees' broadcasts ended, the music would be cut off about the 1:15 mark, and the "Next on 11Alive" title card would come up, usually telling us that ACTION NEWS was next.

This is from 1966, and they just kept on using it until they made it lousy for the 1980s. That lousy 'new' version which sucked.

This is one of the versions they played on WPIX and on 77 WABC radio back in the early to mid 70s.
There was another Yankee instrumental before this one (can't find it anywhere) and another one,
the one you are thinking about. Went something like.. "The Yankees Are Alive" Women singing. :)
