The whole argument about Iraq being a just or unjust war is for those declaring war or sending troops to war to argue, as long as the troops themselves do not violate the international laws that cover the conduct of war. That should have been hammered out in Congress.

It's Republicans, mainly, but our reverence overall stems from the fact that many of us know soldiers, sailors, and airmen, so it hits close to home, and our armed forces are 100% volunteer, so we understand the sacrifices being made. Myself, being a former service member, I know our men and women in uniform aren't perfect, but we don't have to be. We're humans, albeit humans who made a sacrifice above and beyond what most Americans make, and that's what we recognize.

I think it should be used only as a last resort against captives who have been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be complicit in terrorist attacks and who are withholding information that could save lives.
To that end, I don't understand why everyone cries about the "human rights" of people who rape women and children and regularly behead people.

Between 2000 and 2004 he received nearly $400,000 from them in deferred compensations while they secured many no-bid contracts for Iraq and Afghanistan. Not to mention that Halliburton are currently being investigated by the Justice dept and the FBI for unlawfully receiving special treatment from the US govt in Iraq, Kuwait and the Balkans. What am I supposed to do as one service member? As a service member, I took an oath, the same oath any government official has to take. I would've been thrown in the brig, and also the "conientious objector" status no longer works as it once did. There is nothing one man can do to stop or halt an entire invasion of a sovereign nation. I just did my work as any other good servicemember would do. If you have an idea what I could've done personally to stop an entire war, I'm all ears.

Anyway, to be clear, my position is Ron Paul's. I believe that whatever objectives the government sets in Iraq there will be a corporate motive and so we won't be able to get anything done. We should leave.
HOWEVER. I really do believe that when you go to war, you really do have to get your hands dirty and torture. There's no two ways about it. When you find someone with explosives, you should torture them until you find out where they got them from.

It's Republicans, mainly, but our reverence overall stems from the fact that many of us know soldiers, sailors, and airmen, so it hits close to home, and our armed forces are 100% volunteer, so we understand the sacrifices being made. Myself, being a former service member, I know our men and women in uniform aren't perfect, but we don't have to be. We're humans, albeit humans who made a sacrifice above and beyond what most Americans make, and that's what we recognize.
