Roland and his younger brother Clarence White formed a bluegrass band, the Kentucky Colonels, back in '62. Very progressive. Clarence was a superb guitarist who went on to be a prominent session man and also played with the Byrds.
I pretty sure the fiddle player is a guy named Hoot Hester...I played with him a few times. He played on Nashville Now and several other shows. He plays on the Opry now.
don't think there any video around but the recording of Clarence White doing this tune, he called it julius finkbines rag is. CW played circles around this version.
I think Roland White played with him in that number. If your not familiar with Roland you should check him out he's a sick mando player. He never really got a lot of attention since he was the twin of Clarence. Both were and are great.
Now that's some good pickin ...great share BluegrassLibrary thanks strawman8 for the link :)

How Sam and Pat took a song as mundane as Beaumont Rag and turned it into a masterpiece is incredible.

I don't think Roland was or is that great...not saying he's bad but there are much better mandolin players out there
phriendlyphool 3 years ago
I think for a traditional picker he's pretty darn good. But, if your looking for someone progressive than no, he's not your man.
millergd00 3 years ago
I guess but I'd still rather listen to Bill or Ricky Skaggs or Doyle Lawson or even someone like Mike Compton
phriendlyphool 3 years ago
Yeah, honestly I guess the only reason I regard Roland so highly is because I accredit him for teaching me what I know on mando.

Roland white is not a twin to Clarence he is the older of the two.
