I fell in love with Mario Del Monaco as a young girl (Thanks to Opera Cameos). I haven many vinyl recordings (and now, CDs).... How wonderful to be able to see him on YouTube!!
I would be very interested in his discography, the dvd's and even a chronology of his career! ...if you have that information!
Bueno tal vez me puedas recomendar algun disco.Creo que las canciones napolitanas eran sus favoritas, y como dice en la entrevista, esas se cantan con todos los pulmones y el alma. Bueno, saludos.,y ave Divo Del Monaco
such incredible despair, THIS is the torment which truly expresses Canio's position...vocally, dramatically, it's all one...Del Monaco absolutely mind-blowing...thank you so much for sharing this video!!!
The playback speed is faster than the actual speed was (common for television from that era), and as a result, the aria sounds as though it's a full tone too high. Del Monaco is, of course, excellent.
It is a very low aria for a "regular" tenor--the highest note is properly A!!! A lighter tenor(such as I was, for instance) finds it uncomfortably low--what you might call a heldentenor range...
Indeed on, dear friend, it is not an aria for light tenor, hardly lyric. It is an aria for a tenor dramatic as was him Del Monaco and was never replaced.
Randidan, I don't know if I agree with you on Vesti la giubba being a low aria. Certainly it only rises to A natural at its peak, but the climactic phrases have a higher tessitura than many arias with more extreme high notes. Amor ti vieta, for example, also only rises to A, but the approach to it makes it one of the most difficult A naturals in an operatic aria for a tenor.
I agree wholeheartedly!!! Amor ti... was one of the real 'doozies' for me and I gave up on it early on. Vesti was not so difficult for me, but still lay very low--I had a 2.5 octave range but it was mostly UP!!! lol
he looks like he is floating up there

When was Mario born?? WHen I sing paliacci, I always sing it a half step higher. This way makes it esier when I sing it in the right key.

I believe his first live opera as a young tenor may have been Ballo in 46 and that was 6 years before this but he is still young here and very fine.

Good luck! As long as you don't give the voice too much tonal weight you should be fine. : )

I believe the high A's are a half step up, and so they are B flats. Yes, yes?
