5:43 lol!! im 20 years old and i think lucy is the funniest woman to ever grace television she was just naturally funny..and soo beautiful and classy looking
I think one dream of mine, nothing very fancy or implausible, would be to watch a marathon of Lucille Ball's TV shows, TV specials, and some of her film work, in the presence of a small group (but large enough to be considered an audience) of Lucy's fans.
I can't think of a much better time to be had by all. I only wish there was some way that could happen.
Much of Lucy's serious condition was covered up by the media. The lie was put around that week that doctors saw no real problem and Lucy was expected to be fine.
However, in reality when the docs opened her up, they found very extensive heart and nearby area damage, due to years of cigarette and alcohol abuse. Her most recent (and last) illness was merely a symptom of a much larger problem.
So even if they had managed to patch her up that time, she would have been right back very soon.
I'm glad you appreciate Lucy and hope many your age (and those to be born) will still find her talents and TV shows of interest many years from now.
The problem is--the TV networks and cable channels are dropping any black and white TV shows like flies, think viewers will only watch color programming, and so many great TV shows were filmed in black & white.
i have all six seasons of I Love Lucy on dvd. I hope i can find the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour on dvd next. I also have a couple episodes of The Lucy Show on dvd.
TV Land actually dropped "I Love Lucy" from is roster if shows this year. it is now airing irregularly on the Hallmark Channel. So if you like vintage comedy like Lucy's, please let TV channels such as TV Land know how you think.
By the way, while i never met Lucy personally, I did sit across from her and her late, second husband, Gary Morton, when Lucy received her Hasty Pudding Award at Harvard U.
She had a great time that day, "Lucy Day" in Cambridge, Mass., rode in a convertible in a parade, in the open air of that late Winter/early Spring sunshine as flashbulbs flashed and college kids hung out of windows screaming "Lucy, we love you."
And her face was absolutely beaming that day, even if she did have to cover up the bags under eyes with huge sunglasses. Lucy sat perched atop the back end of the convertible's trunk, her feet planted on the car's back seat, husband Morton's arm around her for the support Lucy only physically needed that day.
The Harvard boys were hanging out of windows two and three stores above her. screaming her name, and Lucy absolutely ate it up.
Lucy also let out a few, hearty laughs from the audience, during the student performances, and readily answered questions her part of the ceremony. The one I remember most was her talking about Elizabeth Patterson, who played babysitter/neighbor "Mrs. Trumbull" on "I Love Lucy."
And, as I recall, Lucy accommodated requests to do either or both her famous "W-a-a-a-ah, oh Rick-y" cry, and that unique facial expression/vocal mannerism that came to be known by Lucy scriptwriters as "the spider."
As Lucy was entering her limousine after the ceremony, I wanted so to walk up to and meet her, get an autograph, and really could have had I been more ambitious.
But it just didn't seem polite to have done so at that moment, so I just watched as Lucy climbed into the back of that limo, as it sped away carrying my first, favorite TV star--a woman I had admired and who made me laugh since I was four or five years old, about a quarter century even before that..
Excuse me, again. The last sentence of the last paragraph should have read "a quarter century even before 'then'" or "a quarter century before 'that day'."
The grammarian in me tries to correct errors, if and when i catch them.
And Lucy was dead a little over a year after I saw her in person that fine, late Winter day of February 16, 1988, now 21 years ago.
Almost as much time has now passed between the day I saw Lucy in person as between that day and when I first watched Lucy on TV. Amazing how time really flies by us all.
But I'm glad to have shared my memories with one who, though not born when Lucy was alive, is still old enough to know a great talent when he/she has seen her.
I hope your life is always filled with laughter, and that Lucy remains a part of both.
I still remember that day!Lucy was always my favorite actress and that day I went home after work watching TV where there were so many tributes to her funniest moments and I was laughing and crying at the same time!
I am 19, and I was born the year she died. It breaks my heart, even now. I miss her. I grew up with I Love Lucy. It's one of my all-time favorite shows, she was so amazing.
lucy is the best commedian who ever lived and i know that if we keep watching and laughing shell always be happy up in haven smilling because after 58 years of i love lucy peoople still laugh and watch it daiy. i love lucy
I am almost 40 and the news did brake that evening that she was in the hospital, and very sick. On Nightline the news broke before it was over, but in 1989, some tv news stations stopped reporting after 11:00pm. It is awesome to see such young fans. Lucy will live forever in spirit as long as we are still laughing at the great legacy of films and shows. We should all be greatful of the great gift she gave us....herself.
This is Sad. We lost the most Funniest Women of are time. But look at it this way god took her because Heavan needed a laugh. I wish i could have met her. But i wasnt born until 91. I can still remmeber the first I Love Lucy show i saw it was Off to Florida and i remeber I was 5 and was sitting in a bean bag chair with my sisters a sleep in there bed when it came on at 1 or 2 in the morning and i laughed so hard i cryed. But Heaven needed a Laugh.
hahah, i feel so young right now. I was only 3years old when this originally happened and now as a 22 year old, I have to say that I absolutely love watching lucy and her wild antics! There will never be another Lucille Ball...she truely was a comedic genius!
ok i feel so bad for her dying omg she lived on new dover road on live close to her house i swear but omg but from i love lucy then all the sudden she died wow

Lucille Ball was the greatest ever and it's such a shame that the Republicans tried to say she was a Communist.
Let's hope and pray, for Lucy's sake that another Joseph Mc Carthy never gets elected again.

Excuse me, that was supposed to read "from 'it's' roster 'of' shows this year," in the first sentence of the first paragraph.
The journalism major in me won't tolerate errors of print very well.
