Don't let this video fool you, the actual places to see and do in Royal Oak is literally a few streets, a couple of blocks in size. Place is basically for young professional yuppies and hipsters.
Lets face it. royal oak aint what it used to be, as opposed to a few years back. it should be called royal joke since its about the same comparison as mt clemens. it used to be an edgy town-not anymore. and oh yeah nobodies rich in michigan, its all people spending daddys money theres no ballers in that shithole its all old money
I will admit that there is a sort of snobby section of royal oak as you get twards Birmingham, but other than that I have no idea what people are talking about. Cost of living is not high here. Obviously I don't pay the bills cause I'm 16 but i do know that I just moved into a hous that's roughly 3,000 square feet and it was only 130,000ish. Holiday is pricey so if you don't want to spend a lot, don't go there. Just hit up kroger or something, lol. Hard Lessons!!!
Royal Oak used to be cooler in the late 90's and early 00's...now we got a bunch of rich snobs trying to run the city. It's just not what it used to be (unfortunately). It's almost like Royal Oak is the new Birmingham and Ferndale is the old Royal Oak. Who's with me on this? :)
Shame on Royal Oak. Back some months ago, Royal Oak police confiscated a medical marijuana patients medicine. The man that got busted was perfectly legal for what he had. The city seems to think that marijuana patients can only possess marijuana that came from their caregiver. The law allows for persons with a medical authorization, to possess marijuana. No if's,and's,or buts. The source of the marijuana is immaterial.
Hmm... Zach, that's low... Now who would have thought you'd have such poor grammar... well, besides anyone who knows you.
Anyway, while watching this video, I noticed one thing - it doesn't go into detail about what's OUTSIDE of Downtown. For tourists, that's a positive thing to do, but I've lived in Royal Oak for 4 years and there's been three shootouts in my neighborhood. Commuter traffic is a pain, local business is dying...
Looks like I've got a video response to work on...
fuck royal oak. moved hear from the d and cant stand how snobby it is. i actually got laughed at in birmingham, so i think most south oakland county is nothing but shit.
It is a snobby town, and it costs alot to live there. I do like Zumba!, and Beirut Palace. The rest of the restaurants are pricey to say the least and the food is average. It is a wannabe city--- no doubt with like 2 blocks of stuff . If that car dealership didn't totally interupt the shops it would be cooler. I do love Holiday Market though for meat/produce.
You wouldn't call me a nigger to my face. You are just another person trying to be tough online, cuz in real life you are probably overwieght, and ugly. I mean you are in Detroit right? Everyone there is fat. Understood-- now hit the gym and get on a diet. Get back to me when you lose 100 lbs. K? Good job, and good luck on the wieghtloss.
As a lifelong resident, I think you are confusing the residents who are far from being snobby (like Pointers or Bloomfield Hillers) and those who frequent downtown RO, who come from all over. Residents here are far from being snobby, maybe you should get to know them. I would really like to know which restaurants are pricey. The Coney Island? Comet Burger? Jimmy Johns? Second Street Sub? Yeah, they all sound so ritzy!
Zbake, thanks for politeness. I lived in Royal Oak for 4 years. I actually thought it was quite livable. My favorite restaurants were Zumba!, and Beirut Palace. I grew out of the bar scene. But I do think that basically the cost of living there is not proportional to the quality of life. I mean 696 is a parking lot. I have no idea why actually. What in the world makes that freeway so lame? Dunno. Actually I live in a big city now. But I still reflect on 696. Why is it so slow?
I'm not one for flame wars! Haha. Thanks for the compliment. You should come back here now, I don't know how long you've been gone, but 696/the Reuther is not a parking lot anymore. With the unemployment the way it is, rush hour is not as bad as it used to be. Rush hour traffic on 696 is maybe 30 minutes or less, unless there is an accident. And that's both morning and evening rush hour.
i love living close to downtown royal oak <3

I think this is a case of a city being upset over the fact that they didn't get to throw this guy in jail and slap a bunch of fines on him.

Royal Oak is like any other wannabee American suburb trying to be hip. Contrived and transparent. Go visit Rio, LA, San Francisco, Paris.
