Im not Scottish but ive always loved the bagpipes...with the amazing music from John Barry how could you go wrong...its haunting...pierces the soul...
This is a beautiful piece of music and like Morningdew said, some people just don't have the appreciation for bagpipes, but it is incredible. Thank you for sharing.
THANK YOU!!!! I didn't know this existed until this moment. DWW is my all time favorite movie, the soundtrack probably my favorite as well. I'm a bagpiper and hearing the pipes do this music just leaves me speechless... thank you so much!
Last post didn't go thru'. I'll try this again. Someone has written a piece for veterans called "Hail to the Heroes" to the John Dunbar theme (also available here if you haven't heard it already). W/ bagpipes it has an even more military touch. I will sing that song next month a veterans' appreciation day in Boston using this CD for accompaniement. It's gonna be tremendous.
This is beautiful , the music ,the scenes where God brings out his Autumn paintbrushes. The bagpipes are beautiful,Amazing Grace was written for the bagpipe. This song makes me want to stand on a hill ,open my arms wide and breathe. BEAUTIFUL!
John Barry is dead ...... With his death we lose one of the great composers of our century .... its innumerable subjects reached in many cases the title of Masterpieces ...Rest in peace!
Bagpipes have always been under appreciated because most people associate them with sadness. which of course is NOT true. But once people in general hear the bagpipes they feel comfort, not sadness.
Thanks for posting this and thanks for all the positive responses to this. There's a wee bit of Scotland in many nations as our culture has no boundaries.
I think this movie (and the beauty of the music) should remind us not to take sides. Even though it seems like Dunbar does, it's not sides he is choosing. He followed simplicity and beauty, along with truth and justice; not the kind set by cold logic, but by love... lol, this is coming from a scientist =( I think there is a John Dunbar in all of us, and that some of us act on it and some don't. A really nice movie!!!
I really like it to play that on my borderpipe once a week and it gives me a time for freedom. for somebody he loves the Greathigland pipe is that wonderful to listen , i know some they like it if I playing on the street they dont wanna go , they want stay lol
Absolutely out of this world. So so proud to be Scottish.
And Highland Cathedral is superb as well. Have just been to two Scottish weddings and the Brides both walked into Highland Cathedral. Brilliant brilliant briallant.
Thank you royal scotts guard for putting this beautiful piece together.Funny i'm from american native and hispanic discent and i love the bag pipes, thye are a beautiful sounding instrument.
ohhh my that just takes my breath away, i have been looking for pipemusic for my bridesmaids to walk down too, this is not for them but still incredibly beautiful and haunting
hermoso tema, magnificos paisajes, tiene razón Dazzy160, la gaita es un instrumento del cual se pueden obtener muy hermosos sonido. Este tema en especial es GENIAL..
wow. so funny that you should post a face comment. i looked at 2:18 and saw 7 faces my self. is their more? i'm going to save this to my faves to see if any body can see more.
Beautiful music. The bagpipes are very under-appreciated. Many people find them boring and horrid to listen to, but I find them relaxing and beautiful. I just don't understand some people! Though it might be a bit of my Scottish heritage showing through :]
@Morningdew1435 yeh man believe in heritage, its really powerfull ;), and yeh they are under-appreciated, i love bagpipes to, but i have nothing of scotish lol x)
@Morningdew1435 I find it shocking how anyone could not appreciate a fine bag-pipe song but then again My fathers line comes from Scotland. So I have a bit of heritage showing as well I guess lol
this is such a stunning piece... I love the original soundtrack, adore at least half of the work of the Dragoon Guards, so the two of them coming together in this piece is nearly like a dream come true..... absolutely brilliant!
How is it that you do not like bagpipes. They are in my soul, the pictures were beyond beautiful and the pipes.. to steal a line " the pipes, the pipes, their calling me" thanks again
Just a suggestion - if you're going to write something on the video - try to get the spelling right. "truly" not "truely" and "stirring" not "sturring". Also, "Taken from the album" not "took". It kind of spoils the mood when there's bad spelling/grammar to introduce the music. Such a beautiful song deserves a better setting.
I have a life - and in my life I choose to learn how to spell. Obviously, in yours, either you can't be bothered, or you love sarcasm too much and are pretending to be dumb. So, "git a live" back at you, clown. The music is great and all I was saying is that you wouldn't want Opera introduced by a chav, innit? Too many people don't give a f**k about spelling - and it certainly shows when looking through comments on YouTube. You, on the other hand, are just a twatt.
Swordfishjoe, your comments about the spelling read so much better when listening to this piece of music at the same time. I have to agree, spelling is not entirely difficult. I would rather do that than attempt the b.pipes :-)
Yet another true class piece of music @again by the Best of the Best Regimental Pipes @ Drums of Scotlands most senior and great Band.

But this just made me stop everything and absorb the haunting, hypnotic sound of the pipes. Thanks so much for it. Is this track on the same album as (Balsamo's) Caledonia. Must get it, whatever its on. The only thing i would say, made me so meloncholy, certainly didn't feel like my work out after that. Just wanted to snuggle up and drink cocoa. Divine... Bridget x
