  • There is a Wikipedia article about Dianne Odell

  • I don't really understand...O.K, she can't use a cuirass shell because of kyphoscoliosis, but what's stopping her from getting a tracheostomy? The only downside is the inability to speak ALL the time, but you have that ability with a Pass-Muir valve no doubt. I'd rather move around and see the world with the inability to speak at all times then be stuck in that loud outdated technology.

  • thats fucking worse than prison holy shit

  • It's disgusting that the company that bought out the original one who serviced the 'iron lungs' refused to continue servicing.

  • @mazza6595 shut up! What would you do if that was you.

  • @blackopszombiekill11 all they asked is how she would sleep.

  • with the iron lung been so loud, how on earth did she manage any sleep????

  • Here is the link on 10 News in 2004 about the discontinuance of Iron Lung Service: 10news dot com / news /3296033 /detail dot html

  • @Xerox6085I By the way "Respironics" is the company which decided to discontinue support and repairs for Iron Lungs, a 750 million dollar company can't build replacement parts.

  • how do they take a shower and use the bathroom

  • I think that thing looks halarious, even though this is so sad.

  • that's so sad, i think i would die of boredom

  • she didn't develop bed sores?

  • I'd rather be dead. Just being honest, no need to attack me.

  • @MissLeigh78 me too

  • So cruel to keep this poor woman alive, too bad there isn't some mercyn in the law, just sick, just sad as hell.

  • and we all worry about our hair, make up, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc. u try this for a few decades then see what u worry about :(

  • They refused to provide service for life support machines.....

    Capitalism?

  • Yes they did and still do.

  • Can you imagine? They might as well send you a letter that says, "We're going to let you die. Sorry!" Unbelievable.

  • Wouldn't you get a lot of bedsores by laying in one of these things?

  • i think maybe there are more of us than 30. I sleep in an iron lung since Polio at age 5. I am up and walking by day.

  • Do you seriously sleep in an Iron Lung? What is it like? is it comfortable? Is it like sleeping in a normal bed? What does it feel like? PLEASE TELL ME!!! I am SO interested in Iron Lungs!!!

  • @championair727 same here! thats one of my biggest fears i mean can u imagen laying there all the time?

  • @delise54 See the link I posted from 10 news in 2004.

  • The company that bought out the co' that made the Iron Lung machines are a bunch of murderers.

I mean c'mon.... what else would they be classified as?

  • @Eagertman It's terrible. They could at least have a few people on hand to service them until the occupants die naturally. And for most of them, that would only be about 10 years more.

  • @Eagertman Respironics is the company, look them up. They have a comments area where you may be able to make a difference Respironics dot com

  • oh man, you don t understand how precious life is when you say something like this. See, Dianne Odell lived more then you will probably ever do. Because she knew how precious it is to be alive after all. She didn't give up so to say... she made the best of it and there were generous and good people who helped her and loved her for what she is. Gosh, this woman Dianne Odell is my hero of the day.

  • We have an iron lung on disply at school.

  • one of the saddest things i've ever seen!

  • whenever you feel like your life is horrible, think of this woman.

  • @SniperKitty101 id still rather be her than chris chan!

  • I heard she died recently due to a power failure, may this courageous woman RIP. She should be an inspiration to us all to enjoy life and to not complain.

  • Perhaps it was a mixed blessing...I mean what type of future did she have...

but I wish they could have found a way to make her live longer :(

  • @jazzybee1 don't they have battery backup? all the the years with no power failure

  • @jazzybee1 i did 2 wher did u find out????
