@Lizardwoman311 They most definitely associate items with words. I have video of her drinking from a faucet and saying water. It isn't posted yet... on my to do list! :) Another African Grey named Alex was known to do the word association very well, watch this: youtube.com/watch?v=R6KvPN_Wt8I
@pink4life334 That's right! Different parrot, different girl. Einstein is our parrot companion and lives in our home in Texas. The other one lives at the Knoxville, TN Zoo and performs daily bird shows.
@PinkZazki No, never been on Pet Star and no plans to do so. Einstein is shy in front of a live audience. She loves to perform for her family and the camera! So happy you enjoy Einstein!
I have a question tho..... Can they actually communicate with you? Meaning, do they understand what you're saying to them and do they understand you? Or do they just repeat the words they've heard you say?
@gzus4eva Well, you'll never be able to have a conversation about world economics, but they do understand and associate actions with words. For example: "Wanna go computer" She knows she will be spending time on the perch in the office. She also uses the words, "Break" (Breakfast), "Lunch", and "Dinner" appropriately. She also will just talk randomly, (word practice), but when I hear my name being called, or "Wanna Eat", I know that she wants something.
@4zebird LOL Ur funny!!! Ya I would just baby him or her if I had one. I'm really falling in love with this kind of bird specifically and I'm doing my research and I'd like to hear some personal experience that's why I asked u. I figured they can't 'that' elaborate of a conversation. lolol Thanks for ur reply! Love ur little one! :)
Oh no kingdiamondara. Many Greys have an intelligence level of a 4 or 5-year-old. I know that from living with my Grey for nearly 20 years. It's true they are children emotionally. BUT, their intelligence level is far beyond what is thought and what we know. Given time and attention, we shall learn more. These birds are also strangely psychic. Think what you wish. I experienced a miracle just by commiting to living with a Grey for yrs. I respect peoples' opinions - I simply have my own.
@dragonslayer21000 This is not the same parrot. The Animal Stars Parrot lives at the Knoxville TN Zoo. Einstein is our pet and lives in Texas. Read the "More Info" tab on the video. Search "Einsteinparrot Name Game" for further explaination.
That was so entertaining for me! I wish I could afford a grey but it would likely outlive me as I'm 62. I know they are the smartest. There is something about a parrot that is so sociable. In the wilds they cram together and gab. I would love to have one from a baby. I often imagine the fun things I could train him to say. You could have him/her as a little ambassador of peace....or joy.
Heh, thought about a thing called "fear". I do not wish any harmful things in my mind to you're loving beautiful creature, but man, could you imagine, if your bird would be so loyal that she may even be around as a ghost?
Kind of creepy - yet that would show her tremendous affection towards you! :)
parrots are great and yes tey are messy and also can be very annoying!! I have a double yellow headed amazon very funny and sometimes I just want to choke him!!LOL
@4zebird Sorry, it was a greenscreen-error hence I thought it was fake XP But the greenscreenproblem is fixed now. I could only see a green screen and not the video itself. cheers from norway !
I had a gray but she didn't talk this much. Very sweet creature, they easily love as much as a dog or cat can. Unfortunately, the wife took her when she left.
Also, just for the record, I too would like some corn.
@kingdiamondara Generally speaking, larger parrots are thought to have an intelligence that rivals a 2-3 year old child. While most of their "speech" is just repeating the sounds they hear, if someone spends time with their bird, they can understand that certain items are identified by specific words.
@4zebird actually, the 2-3 thing was an under estimation, it's more like 5-10 or higher depending on the grey, and they have all the same emotions of humans. i've met one that could speak nearly perfect english and told me, "i tired o' people treating me like i dumb animal, i think, i feel!" lol, cracked me up, i told him i respect him as an equal, he paused and said, "you alllllright!", then kissed my nose.
I am truly amazed by this bird. I had an African Grey years ago and whoever had him before us must have really had a foul mouth. It became an embarrassment to us whenever we had friends from church come over. We had to sell him.
@TheRAWRingDuck We didn't turn her into anything. We just got lucky and did a lot of ready and study on parrot intelligence and behavior. Positive Reinforcement training played a very large part too. For more info go to the FAQ page of her website, einsteinparrot. com
I'm baby sitting an African Grey on this dank cold Christmas eve, her name is Ruby and she loves this post she's talking back to it at the moment. Greetings from the UK
@HiroMori94 Yes, it is not uncommon for her to do that. She will often start reciting food words when it is close to a time to eat. She will also let us know when it is time to go to sleep. However, you really have to incorporate them into your life and your routine.
@HiroMori94 Good Question! She knows when we are upset with her. She will say "Bad Bird", and she often says, "Happy Birdie", but this could just be mimicry. However, I do believe they have feeling and emotions.
what an amazing bird! so entertaining :) sometimes she seems to be saying things at random, but most of the time what she's talking about relates to what she's actually doing which is so clever! love watching her videos. my FAVE thing she says is the "gobble gobble gobble" :D
She is amazing! You have trained Einstein really well! It's always wonderful to see when a parrot owner is dedicated! It comes out in the bird and Einstein is a very good example, it takes a whole lot of persistence and dedication (ooh and treats). Just wow great job!
Just to add to this thread, i have 2 DYH amazon parrots that are very well cared for. I have a huge hanging playpen that they get to spend hours on everyday. I feed them several different dried foods plus treats when they are in "school". I give them a lot of attention. They are So funny. @shishisawboy Yes, she can fly, but we keep her wings clipped to keep her safe. She is still a good flyer and can “fly-hop” for example, from her perch to the kitchen counter.

@Dioneisis Its always recommended to start with small parrots like Budgies. their behaviors are almost identical to big parrots! except that they're much smaller, but they'll shock you with their extraordinary intelligence, and a male budgie holds the record of the highest amount of vocabulary between all parrots.
But still unless you could spend several hours daily with them, don't get a parrot, I take my budgie wherever I go, even to work without clipping, caging, or training she just knows!
@Dioneisis Best advice in the world. Only a VERY VERY small percentage of parrots will be like this one. It'll take many hours of interaction to get results like this. No, make that days. No, sorry, weeks and months.

I looove Einstein, thanks for sharing! My conure Buddy loves her too. (I assume she is a girl since she says good girl and sweetie?) He especially likes the kissy noises and singing, since that is what he mainly does. Great job interacting with her you can tell how loved she is.
thats amazing how much she trusts you guys. she knows what ur saying and she seems enthusiastc. sometimes i think my bird (a budgie named kiwi) hates my guts. she bites like a viper.
Einstein is such a cool little grey :-) I have 4 macaws myself. But I also volunteer for a parrot rescue and sanctuary called Wings Over The Rainbow. Great videos :-)
I have to watch her every night when I get in from work. She is just my daily therapy and is 10 times better and 100 times less expensive than a shrink.
When I play the video's of Einstein, my cat Sable comes to sit here and watch them with me. She loves animal planet too LOL Please keep up the video's of this adorable girl, she's so entertaining to watch.

I looove Einstein, thanks for sharing! My conure Buddy loves her too. (I assume she is a girl since she says good girl and sweetie?) He especially likes the kissy noises and singing, since that is what he mainly does. Great job interacting with her you can tell how loved she is.

Einstein is such a cool little grey :-) I have 4 macaws myself. But I also volunteer for a parrot rescue and sanctuary called Wings Over The Rainbow. Great videos :-)

While playing this video my Congo Buddy was making a lot of his noises and uttering nonsense. He loves listening to Einstein.

I have to watch her every night when I get in from work. She is just my daily therapy and is 10 times better and 100 times less expensive than a shrink.
