  • Great video but a lot of stupid comments here. The man is giving you ideas; you don't have to follow them to the letter, they're just options. Adjust to your own personal tastes and stop whining.

  • although there's too much vibrance at my taste, I think you could've added even more brightness to that finished edit.

  • lol...i failed when i edit my pic... -.-

  • way to over processed

  • Nice video. Really informative. Which kind of monitor is that btw?

  • It's called filters.....

  • the pier looks like its tilt shifted

  • Please tell me he took more then 2 Pictures...

  • I think photoshop kinda defeats the purpose/hardwork of true photography.

  • Clouds... IN THE SKY?!?! Blasphemy!

  • This is not a landscape photographer. A landscape photographer does not go shoot in the middle of the day, take the same shot every photographer has of a pier and then edit it to look like it was taken in good light.

  • or a whale comes out..

  • Thanks

  • what brand and model is your computer monitor

  • if you don't have anything nice to say just don't say it! This guy is helping people out, FOR FREE! Duh! if you already know better than just move on. For others, this may be helpful.

  • Smash my mom . com

  • i love the original with low saturation..

  • you can try desaturating it instead of saturating it, more mood in the photo..

  • HDR PLEASE

  • Preferred the original

  • It's always amusing Reading each others wanna- be photographers opinion about a shot. It's an art form for all of us to express our OWN vision, not to satisfy others. Respect each others creativity. There no such things as a standard perfect foto system. If its a good shot to you then I respect that...... Try that!

  • Against the critics out there... (okay, maybe too much words at the start)

-But, seriously... your point is well made.

Many sellable, hi impact photos come from cloudy dreary days, and 'appearingly' not so interesting scenes, like yours.

-And, you showed us how to make the most of such a situation, using exposure time, RAW, etc.

Good job!!! (why 10x thumbs are up.)

    Thank You for the post!

  • Hey if you have about a $1000 to drop on software, you to can make your pictures look good. THis stuff is only for people that make money off their photos or have a ton of money to begin with. If you dont have a lot then use Photomatix for 100 bucks and you will get close to the same effect with it. It wont do what Lightroom and Adobe CS5 will do, but it will help and do HDR.

  • @svtbmg1 Thanks!

  • @svtbmg1 Or you could get CS5 student edition, or get CS5 or Lightroom off Piratebay like most cheap people do.

  • Use Gimp, Rawtherapee, Darktable, Digikam, or any of the other open source (and free) image processing programs.

  • @svtbmg1 Relax, don't be bitter. There are many other photo imaging sites - such as picnik.com - that are free.

  • @jemen19762010 Who is bitter? Most people cant afford CS5 and Lightroom. I am not one of them since I own both and HDR EFEX Pro, Photomatix etc. But I am not the norm. No bitterness here man. The thing is that most people who do these videos think it is normal for people to drop well over a 1000 on programs. If you are a student then you can get it cheap.

  • Awesome, thank you!

  • the pic u had edited was not that bad

looks that the sharpness u gave had an great affect on the cooler to make it look un natural

  • Loved the colour edit you did on that shot, nice.

  • what is this software called? 4:10

  • @shonenarts23 lightroom

  • @ZedBazinga whats that? you need a special camera or something?

  • I always take landscape using my phone accualy

  • Nice simple tips. The end image looked a bit over done to me but still nicer than the original :)

  • If you want to mess around with the colors of your image please use CaptureNX2.

Lightroom only can do contrast etc to the whole image and make it look unnatural if you overdo it. In captureNX2 you can do the contrast and color in the sky seperate, the water seperate and whatever other part of the picture you want. Just use color control points. It may not be 30 seconds of work but few minutes work at the most.

  • @Thecookingfreak hay the app u mentioned above the Capture NX2. it is from nikon. hay do you know something like that app for matchbook with a canon camera (60D)

  • i kinda prefer the original photo... is it just me? I hate over processed photography

  • You messed up at vibrance. Well in my opinion

  • @DYE9 It looks like an HDR . It is supposed to look like that .

  • @DYE9 I really like color in the photo. If you don't like the color, you're more than welcome to do that in your own photography.

  • Hmm thanks for the tips, but I have some CC

Post processing should be used as a last resort (besides the basics).

There were three main things wrong here. 1.) The shot was greatly underexposed. 2.) For the effect that was trying to be achieved, the shutter was not left open long enough. 3.) It will be soft. How can I tell that from a youtube video? Because you're using f/22. Use ND filters and stay below f/16.

With a properly used GND filter and a slower shutter speed, you'll get great results.

  • Here you are, showing me what to do... Really? No thanks

  • excellent tips, thanks! Looking forward to downloading the ebook

  • @robbyjai I'd love to see your workflow... one picture every 3 hours, weeeeeeee!

  • dude, that was great, ,,going to order the e-book for the kindle tonight,,thanks

  • What lens was used to photography the beach?

  • @4Alpha7Kilo Photograph**

  • It could have been 'even' better if it were HDR.

  • Great tutorial. I'm looking forward to reading your book.

  • Yeah, the final image was too overdone.. It looked like Disneyland

it was nice before. Just needed some more contrast and depth.. The less you need to do in processing, the better imo

  • i boned ur mom

  • It is amazing how folks comment about the presenter (who gives his time to share photo tips). It is important to focus in on the subject matter NOT the person.

Excellent video. First time I saw a video from beginning to end ... Thanks Much

  • Good tutorial, thanks. How about a real book though instead of E books! I'm a printer, help save my job!!!

  • hate too much processing !! now there's no difference between between good photographers and good photoshoppers

  • nice video. You sound like my local pastor though. xD

  • way to much editing ! Wait for the real light looks just irrealistic.

  • @Waldchiller Why?

  • @Waldchiller lol *unrealistic

  • @Waldchiller the man watches a video about photo editing and then exclaims "way too much editing!"

    what a bastard you are

why does it have to be realistic ? never heard of art ? stupid mong id like to take a photo of your dribble. dribble mong

  • @Waldchiller a lot of pro photographers use photo shop to enhance there photos lol but iouno if he is pro lol

  • Wouldn't f22 introduce diffraction?

  • @Silvialite I'm more concerned with depth of field here than the minimal amount of diffraction I see on this lens at that aperture. With something very close to the camera as well as the pier in the distance, a reduction in depth of field could really be a problem here.

  • hope you got a screen shot ....nice tutorial though..learned a lot...

  • @choloman5000 Yeah, sorry about the cheesy filming the computer screen bit. I think I got it figured out now.

  • @harmerj: oki, I really thought it could be too much.

However, good video, keep on going ;)

  • my feeling is there is lot of light, and 2sec at f/22, 100 ISO would be overexposed if no 10 stops filter is used.

  • @souricou Nope, didn't use any filters and the exposure worked just fine with those settings. The video is a touch brighter than it really was, though.

  • Nice tip! :)

  • Nice video Jim

Hope to see many more in the future.

    Cheers
