  • i love monsters inc on blu ray, it's just awsom

  • wot film is the one who appears chendler? And the soldier one? @rAd880

  • @tamboleo If you're talking about the screenshot at 0:45, that is from an HBO mini-series called Band of Brothers.

  • 1:46-1:51 so Blu-Ray takes out the letter boxing too? -_-

  • Close up pictures of faces is not the best way to see the advantages of Blu-Ray over an upscaled DVD. The quality of the Blu-Ray also depends on what type of compression is being used. The first release of The 5th Element on Blu-Ray got hammered by reviewers, because of how poor the conversion was. The 2nd edition of the movie on Blu-Ray is just stunning, with vivid colors and crisp picture quality during scenes with a lot of movement.

  • I like how people use the blue ray to say ps3 is the best console but i have a blue ray player and a xbox it still cost me less than a ps3 with a good amount of hardrive space

  • I practically need a blu ray player for my 80" HDTV b/c I can instantly tell the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray and DVD's just irritate me. I'm never going back.

  • The difference between the picture quality of DVDs and Blu-rays should be as staggering as the difference between the picture quality of VHS and DVD, but it's not. I've seen a few Blu-rays that I was impressed with, but for the most part, it's hard to tell the difference. You have to have a top of the line television to get the most out of Blu-ray. You shouldn't have to, though. You didn't have to when DVDs came out. I'll stick with my DVDs until holographic home movies come out. : /

  • @donniedarkodevotte Are you using hdmi cause you can defiantly notice a differences unless u have one of those really old hd tvs that are really dark and came out around 2005 2006

  • Wow, "Monsters Inc." looks worse than today's PC video game graphics in HD. Technology has progressed so much since 2002!

  • watching this on my 22" non-hd (didn't check when i bought it damn mistake lol)

going to check the difference in a min on the 27" 1080p one

(so far the only movie i saw in HD was the watchmen at my buds house on i think 46" tv , was pretty good , at times noticed more detail (mostly faces)

but i think me not noticing as much is more to do with my need of (and yet lack of) glasses lol

  • CAN u make more video and have newer releases? like Jurassic Park,Transformers DOTM Thanks

  • Practically no difference. A good upscaling DVD player will be almost as good for a lot less money.

  • they do a reeeally good job with getting high quality on standard DVDs now. Its hardly noticeable unless you got your face pressed up against the screen or got a big screen, of which upscale the dvds anyway.

  • they both look the same. i cant tell the difference.

  • VHS is superior

  • @Wildchild880 VHS is just a fad i'm sticking with BETA

  • Blueray is much better for animated movies such as Monsters Inc, that's why shops always have demo's of movies like UP and Shrek because they look better

  • What movie is that at 27?

  • Lol, totally ignored the dvd vs bluray aspect, and played "guess the movie" inside my head.

  • I only saw the difference in a few, others, I didn't see a difference.

  • @b1gb3n12 you render your video into flash which makes it slightly worse and the video is in 720p, also the uploader might not using highest setting which also make it slightly unfair

  • for some reason, i have a major grudge on Blu-Ray vs DVD videos. Even though i got a BLU-RAY player yesterday!

    O_o

  • I see no diffrerence. It doesn't change the movie experience what so ever.

  • @Brentsfriend

Are you retarded or blind sir?

  • @pijef So you call people retarded or blind because they have an opinion? What, are you a dilutional FACIST terrorist that hates on the freedoms of Americans? WHO THE HELL are you to tell people what to do when this video was for comparison purposes. Why don't you go back to your backwards, retarded, third world country in the middle east where you belong!!!!

  • name film with a "sniper" ????

  • I don't really care which one is better because I've moved on past using disc's.

  • CREED!!!! Great artist, but you could of picked one of their better songs

  • Um for all those people who see no difference has an issue just go to a tv store and look at the clarity of the Blu ray. I just got a Blu ray player and it looks the best when the movies have some sort of effect

  • The Monsters Inc. pics barely had any diff.

  • @GawainValentino Like a said, brightness and contrast, they may have sharpened the edges too. Do you know anything about editing? I doubt it. I have done professional editing, so I know how the system works. You obviously don't. My point is, a Blue-ray disk is just a DVD with more space. The players, and what is done before it's pre-burned, is the difference. Just clarifying that argueing between the disks is retarded.

  • @TheJamesDun - The only thing holding me back in regards to buying a Blu-ray player is one question I have: Does Blu-ray in any way change the cinematographic aspect of the film? I'm all for the improved picture and sound quality - but I wouldn't want that changing the overall look of the film.

  • @JesusCristo2002 In most cases, Blue-ray is much better than DVD. Many (not all) Blue-Ray players will upscale (increase the quality) of regular DVD's. Some do not, which makes them not look as good as they do on a standard DVD player. Make sure to do research on which Blue-Ray players will upscale DVD's. Another recommendation is that between the options of an older movie on Blue-Ray, or DVD, go with DVD. If it's old, it probably wasn't recorded in HD to begin with.

  • dude, im not seeing shit of difference

  • @alessiosbudah123 thats mostly because you're watching it on the same resolution on youtube. Try watching the dvd picture in 480p then when it's the bluray pic switch to 720p. (which isn't even full hd)

  • Really the only difference is the brightness and contrast. For those of you who don't know how editing films work, digitally, it looks to be more likely that its levels were enhanced before it was put on Blue-Ray, and DVDs arent. The only difference in the disks itself are storage size, and compatibility. The Blue-Ray vs. DVD arguement is stupid, it's not the disks making the difference.

  • Disquete !!

  • Get a good TV and a good Home Theater and you will enjoy the whole thing and the best seat on your livingroom and Popcorn have a nice day :)

  • The people saying there's no difference are blind. I get new movies that are for example TRON combo Blu-Ray DVD package mine is Blu-Ray and give the DVD version to my brother and there is a great difference in everything. I have nothing more to say.

  • blu ray looks better on bravia.sound is better, especially if you get speakers

  • Yes, we can see more of his wrinkles, great :P

  • These dvd's are upscaled arent they?

  • I lol'd at the info box.

  • if you dont see a difference between blu ray and dvd... then it has to be your hdtv sucks balls. i have a 46in samsung led tv and the picture is so freakin awesome. like your watchin live people in your living room. and my hdtv is 120hz. so really if you dont see a difference... then its your tv. the difference i noticed is, color, contrast, sharpness, and boy... the sound. i have a blu ray player that decodes tru-hd and dts hd... blu ray is wayyyy better then dvd.

  • In the HD near the end you can really see the difference of detail in piccards face

  • Damn wannabe wiggers insulting the music because it's clean. Anyway, I can't really tell a huge difference.

  • Looks the same

  • Biggest difference seems to be when it's very bright. Still not worth the extra 3 bucks or whatever it is.

  • I watched Tangled in normal dvd quality then bought the blu ray movie and the difference was so big! For all of you dvd lovers you gotta try blu ray before judging.

  • My dvd player is as clear as these blu ray screen shots. The real improvement will be when you can actually touch the characters in a movie. lol

  • I could only see a good difference in a few scenes, not worth buying yet another new player. I'll just wait and see if blu ray becomes dominant, then buy one.

  • BLU RAY WILL DIE SOON !!!

  • whats that movie called 0:20?

  • @killerhakie Monsters .Inc?

  • Transformers would have been a good comparison the color of the bots.

  • @subzeromr69er didn't you read the description. On your computer screen they look comparable but on a tv blu ray looks amazing

  • i see no diffrence

  • The difference is so minimal. Unless your watching the movie like 2 ft away from the screen, then yes the blu ray will look better. But like most people if your on your couch or something and your at a normal viewing distance, there isn't much difference.

Best bet is to play your regular dvd's with an HDMI hookup to your HD tv. That will give you a great picture.

  • @Wesson4 Yep that's I've got going on. I'm not going start buying Blu-Rays until DVDs completely go away (which I don't see happening for a while). I've got a 1080p TV hooked up with a HDMI cable to my PS3. I agree completely with you. I've tried out the HD channels on my TV and I can only see the difference when I'm go and stand right next to the TV.

  • @joevictor53 get glasses maybe?

  • @MGVguy I have glasses. Next time don't be such a d-bag and try and insult people who have glasses. I genuinely cannot see a difference unless I'm right next to the TV. When I'm watching a film from a normal viewing distance there's is pretty much no difference in watching Blu-Ray or DVDs on my PS3

  • @joevictor53 Hah I have glasses myself but if you cant't see the difference when you're watching there must be something wrong, because when I'm watching movies on my ps3 on the tv I see a hughe difference between dvd and blu ray.

  • @MGVguy Well I don't see anything and obviously others can't like the comment I replied to. I can only see a clear difference when I'm about 2 feet from the TV. My DVDs look just as good as any Blu-Ray on my PS3 when I watch them from a normal viewing distance. There's no point in having too much quality when you can't see it unless you go up to the TV and look really close.

  • @joevictor53 Well when I'm far away and watch the film on blu ray vs dvd I see a clear difference in things you couldn't see before like freckles and things like that I couldn't see in the dvd quality.

  • Should try and make clips instead of just screenshots for comparison, put them side by side it would be better :)

  • bluray is for better details: look at their tissue detail on bobbies 1:56 / 1:59

  • @kal2029 agreed.

  • blu ray is best, but its kinda useless when it comes to animation

  • The Blu-ray colors in the last Braveheart picture look too fake to me... :/

  • What a difference

  • i hate blue ray. like it took me about 8 yrs to buy all my movies over in dvd from vhs and i dont wanna do the same with blu ray. plus blu ray is way too expensive. like there is no need for a movie to be 24 or 26 bucks

  • This was HD Right?

  • you will have a total eye-gasm and ear-gasm watching watchmen on blu ray haha

  • bluray is the best

  • @monsterterrific221 amenX10000000000000

  • song?

  • Hey, people who say that there is no difference, he did it on a 19" computer screen, to see the difference get a 40"+ TV.

  • There are some differences but who really give a damn? It takes more than some high definition to enjoy a movie.

  • *turns off sound at 0:01*

  • no difference

  • you just see the actors wrinkles better..

  • @kkkasha01 No, you see things for how they are. It's really designed for special FX, and epic shots for example documentaires etc.

  • I cannot tell the difference

  • I bet everyone likes blu ray beacouse its newer than dvd.

I bet allot of people who think blu ray is better don't even have a blu ray player.

  • The only reason that you would notice the big difference in Blu-Ray to DVD is if your comparing them. Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @Infenix13 no dawwg

i went into a store an saw a large flat screen n was playin monsters vs aliens in blu ray n i noticed the difference straight awayyyy

  • @wwerulestna when was the last time you went to the opticians?? haha

  • you'r so right about the song ...wachh

  • Blu Ray

  • can i just get an hdmi port and would movies be hd?

  • You can clearly tell Monsters Inc' is MUCH better looking on Blu-ray, Makes me want to re-buy it on Blu-ray now LOL.

  • I love my ps3(no fanboy sh1t) its a great gaming machine and blu-ray player!!!

  • comparison= 0 noticeable difference.

  • @soravsgoku123 Why dont you get your eyes checked?

  • @Superay360 it might have a high res PC, so to his PC he may be right.

  • ehh . . . what's older then a crt monitor? :/

  • @taylor22222222 Your comebacks.

  • @taylor22222222 ok no, higher res are monitor that are 1920x1200 or 2560x1600 with is above HD which is use a lot for PC gaming where is 720p is 1280x720. So 720p video may look like DVD video on 1200p or 1600p screen because the pixels are strech to fit the screen.

  • But how can one still claim there is no difference, when technically, there is?

  • @taylor22222222 there is but if he has a Screen that is 2560x1600 then 720p will look the same has 480p on 1080p screen.

  • You can get as high of a resolution screen on the market and there's still a difference. You can change the resolution, but that doesn't mean anything below it's highest DPI capacity will all look identical.

  • soravsgoku123=no eyeballs.

  • @taylor22222222 don't freak out when someone disagrees with you. Ihave my opinion and you can have yours.

  • Ok alright I get it, you're like 87 years old with deteriorating vision . . . There is clearly a difference, there is NO opinion about it! It is in front of you, it is proof. The sky is blue as well! ...dangit :P

  • I love my blu ray player, watched Avatar in Blu-Ray and it was absolutely beautiful.

  • @Chazzy767 im gonna watch avatar on blu-ray in 3 days. on my new laptop in ful hd. :)

  • dvd is garbage

  • the monsters inc comparison to me dvd was better more color tone compared to blue ray but i guess blue ray had more variety of color compared to dvd but I am not that big with blue ray and i wont until dvd is obsolete or I get a fancy led Tv and ps3

  • blu-ray is more detailed

  • @blattrocky i fucken hate this song to

  • when u put monsters and co on blue ray its like puttin he shaders on medium

  • 2006 Blu-Ray vs 2000 DVD????!!!

  • @jpollorena its 1997 DVD btw

  • WoW

  • ive heard dreamscape so many times its actually starting to sound really good.

  • these are terrible examples!

  • the bigger changes are in monster inc and the old star trek movie, and how do you know i had a 19" screen? maybe youre a wizard....

  • I don't see a big enough difference for the Blu Ray to cost a hundred pound more than DVD...

  • almost none of difference ¬¬

  • omg, what is this song from? its getting so old now. kinda cool the first couple of times but real old now

  • middle finger 4 da music...thumbs 4 bluray..

  • Thanks for this. It confirms for me that DVD is good enough. If you don't intend to make your living room into a kind of cinema, all of this is completely unnecessary. I can enjoy old and foreign films without seeing beads of sweat seeping from pores on the actors' faces. And I wouldn't have seen how pointless hi-res really is without this comparison video, so thanks!

  • @feckingbillgates But you read the video description? The uploader said, ''You have to see it IRL to really understand the difference.''

  • I still think that if you don't intend for your living room to become a home cinema, it's not necessary to see every pore on a sweating actor's face.

  • wow, i dont see much difference

  • @lolking4 lol, believe me there IS a difference when your ACTUALLY watching a Bluray on a 120hz monitor like I am. you can see EVERYTHING. every pore, that's not an exaggeration.

there's a fair bit of quality that's lost through transcoding & encoding.

and no offense to the uploader, but there are better looking Blurays than these ones, Avatar looks amazing.:-)

  • @z28camaro2 yeah avatar is a good example cuz of its special effects and it was recorded in 16:9 ratio unlike other movies which are in 221:100 where the black bars occupy more volume than the picture

  • What song is this?! Well blu-ray is definately better.

  • @frenchinator7 Dreamscape - 009 Sound System

  • woah! much of a difference o.O

    im glad i have a blu-ray XD

  • blu-ray is much clearer and more colorful. WOO! the last one looks way better on blu-ray

  • WHAT SONG IS THIS please send me the name of it in a private message

  • do you get paid when you put this song cause its so gay

  • At last...an honest comparison. What usually happens is that they set the DVD player up with composite, sometimes using an old CRT, take screenshots, then set a Blu-Ray player up with full 1080p over HDMI and take shots of that. Of course the difference is HUGE in those circumstances. This video seems more honest, and maybe the DVD's are even upscaled? I flit from Blu-Ray to upscaled DVD frequently, and while the differences are there...I sometimes have to have a bit of a giggle at the HD hype.

  • 720p - seems like there is no need for blu ray. thank you for the effort. What about HD sound then?

  • @cero815

Well most people even hear a big difference with Blu-Ray even on non-HD-audio amps, compared to the same amp playing DVD source material, as basically they're hearing the full "up to" 1.5Mbps that their optical or coaxial cables can deliver to the amp. Actual HD audio formats goes better still, but personally I don't think it is worth upgrading one's current amp as Blu-Ray sound amazing anyway. If an amp breaks and the deal is good, sure get a HD audio amp in those circumstances.

  • @slitheen Thanks for the quick answer! The thing is, old non-HD-Receivers can be "fed" with HD-Audio-signals per analog inputs. The newest receivers do not have this option so future codecs will be a no go for them, which is a pity. The question is: will players have analog outputs in the future? Seems like analog is loosing weight and this is a step back in my eyes.

  • The distance between you and the TV is also something that matters.

  • Something I've noticed is that bluray makes animation movies, shrek, monsters inc etc look a hell of a lot better.

  • the change is kinda trippy

  • I have a 32-Inch Vizio Widescreen T.V and the quality is 720p it worth getting a Blu Ray or a PS3 with this type T.V.?

  • @X23Unit definitely, I used to have a xbox 360 to watch dvd's and play games but then I invested in a ps3 slim for the blu-ray upgrade and it was worth every penny! :)

  • @X23Unit dude i have a 32 sharp 720p tv and i have a ps3 and the movies looks so facking awesome

  • puked when i saw 0:12

    not blu ray worthy

  • Although the Blu-Ray version is clearer, this doesn't show the full comparison.

YouTube claims to be 720p yet when I watch a recorded gameplay of Modern Warfare 2 on 720p on YouTube, it's like comparing an SD version of MW2 onto my 720p TV.

    YouTube sucks for comparison.

You need two exact same televisions with one showing Blu-Ray and one showing DVD side-by-side.

That would be a true comparison.

  • CANNOT SEE THE DIFFERANCE!!!!

  • @SuperOOAdam blind?

  • @SketchupSchool now that i look at it a little more i see a dif only in color and in shade and a very minor differance in the edging BUT IF ANYONE CAN MAKE A VIDEO THAT CAN HANDS DOWN CHANGE MY MIND IN THE DIFFERANCE IN BLU-RAY AND A REGULAR DVD THEN I WILL MAKE A YOUTUBE VIDEO TELLING THE WORLD I WAS WRONG AND THAT I WAS FOREVER WRONG ABOUT IT AND I WILL BELIEVE IN THE MAGIC OF BLU-RAY! I PROMISE BUT YOU HAVE TO PROVE ME WRONG!

  • @SuperOOAdam The discription youve given is what hd quality is about. except the sound, sound is also somthing

  • Blu-Ray looks a lot smoother and the colours look sharper.

Realy want Lord of the rings trilogy on Blu-Ray!! to expensive atm though lol.

  • @XxFanMadeTrailersxX £29 is too expensive for 3 full hd films which total over 9 hours?

  • blu-ray looks sooo much sharper in motion :) I Know because my dvds upscales to 1080p via ps3 & hdmi but it still looks pretty bad compered to blu-ray

  • Iv been a fan of DVD for ages.

I bought loads of films I had on VHS for DVD.

    Im never doing that again.

Im 35, so how many more new formats do I need to buy for one film in my life time?

What is the minimal size LCD TV you need when you play Blu Ray @1080p?

Do I really need to buy Blue Ray for a 20 year old film?

  • @vhsanddvds74 you can play dvds and blu rays on any tv, depends on the player

i would say unless you have a tv over 37 inches, you won't notice much difference

  • The smallest 1080p sets I've seen are around 20", but honestly you won't be able to tell the difference at that size. Although around 30" and up the difference becomes quite clear.

  • @vhsanddvds74

Secondly, movies shot on film (and pretty much all others) were intended for cinema viewing. So when you take a still of a 35mm film, for example, you actually have an analog source rather than a digital video like both DVD and BD use. It is then compressed down to fit on the disc from the source film. Even though film doesn't use pixels, it has a much, much higher "resolution" than we are capable of recreating on disc. That is why you can still get pristine video from old films.

  • You cant really compare DVD & BD on a 720p youtube video... But If you see it on a 1080p TV side by side there would be much more difference... BD would look much better than on this crappy youtube video!

  • blu-ray é 1000 vezes melhor

  • its healthier to watch blu ray because it is closer to our vision in real life, so there is less or no strain on our eyes =D

  • Man, the pictures of Monster Inc look SO much better with Blu Ray...

  • Just so you know, this video is only 720p so it can't capture the full HD of Blu-Ray. Also, I think 0:54 is a good example of where HD makes a difference, look at the fur.

  • almost draw. But some times in this movie is blu-.ray a little bit better. Any way blu-ray is better. But a dvd is enough

  • dvd is enough good

  • I bet you say that because you dont have a blu ray player or never saw a blu ray movie up close.

  • retard! I have a blu-ray. If you dont belive me,say to me that i can do a video answere to one of youre videos. And we play the blu-ray player on a HD-TV. So don`t speake fuc*ing things like this. How the hell do you know if i have a blu-ray or not. You son of a bit*h

  • not much but the resolution and color

  • they both look the same to me

  • it's becouse your a retard and just wont realise :)

  • @murreboy No its because he needs to make this better. Like the other videos on here. Look at Bollywoodbluray

  • i just did and theres a video showing porn

  • Yeah u can't see the difference on YouTube they show this in 720p HD go on ThePirateBay and download a BluRay more and the same more in DVD and watch them both see what u think k.

  • WATCH IN HD

    u morons

if you are then ur just blind

  • @CHEVINATOR1 I am you fuck retared. I just don't see it in this video, I have found other videos that shows them better. So unless you want to start something, then get off you dads dick and bring it. Atleast this guy has some good videos unlike you. You have is playing WoW with you're nerdy friends and you probably don't have a life.

  • Put the video in 720p and then say that with a strait face

  • It was in 720p

  • song name?

  • Buddy, this video is not so good as like others. Here the diference between Dvd and Blue ray is very poor.
