  • like watching you but had to hit mute

  • Are you gonna make any more videos using the USM?

  • I have watched this vid several times over the past 1 1/2 yrs. Each time I watch it, I sit in amazement. Me and my Bond Machine did not do well--and it no longer lives in my home. To watch someone who has "mastered" it, and at breakneck speed is something to behold. Love this vid. tomdaltodmom - You are right, that young lady can KNIT!!!!! Makes me want to give the Bond Knitter one more chance.

  • @HJKelley47 Its the bond. You can see she drops the stitch a few times. Bonds are particular and a pain, the slightest unevenness of tension, in the counter it sits on or weight in pull on the knitting and the stitch gets dropped.

  • I want some of what you took to make you knit so fast. LOL. EXCELLENT video.

  • I used to love my bond (wish you could rib that fast in real life LOL) I have three of them. But no space to set them up ;(

They are quite easy to knit on as they are very basic machines - no patterning as it's all done manually by the knitter not the machine

In the UK (where they were first produced) they were marketed as "hand knit" machines where you knit the boring straight bit on this machines and the rest by hand.

QUESTION: What is the TV for?

  • It's nice to see that someone knows how to use one of these, 'cause I'm tired of hearing people complain about it all the time, I'm sure that it just took some practice to get used to & then it was easy after that.

  • did you make your hem out of felt or fabric? i was thinking of getting very thin lambskin and making a nice permanent one- great video BTW

  • @teceyS3 I just used a piece of fleece I had laying around, but lambskin would make a really nice sturdy one that should last.

  • Fun to watch in fast motion!

I make longies and shorties on my LK150 and KnitSmart, but I do them with only one body seam, at the front. This way I can do really nice short rows across the upper back waist and lower bum, to allow room for the diaper, and not have to remember on the second half how I did the first, and then seam them (because I often didn't get both halves the same, LOL).

  • @TracyKMainwaring Do you have an extended bed? I don't think I have enough needles on my single bed to make them in one whole piece.

  • @Stellercrys

I'm using an LK150, so yes, I can get a larger size (which I need). With a 100 needle Bond, at 5st/inch, you can get up to a 20" waist in one piece. At 4st/inch you could get a 25" waist. I need to make a larger pair now and I am worried about having enough needles (I have a 60lb 4 year old, LOL).

  • I received a machine for Christmas and just tried my first project. My machine doesn't run as smooth as yours. What's the trick?

  • What brand of machine did you get?

The only thing I can think of would be to wax the keyplate so that the needles might run accross them smoother. If you got a bond machine there should be instructions for that (or on the video)

  • Sure find it difficult to get any response from the Bond-America company. Despite sending several e-mails they won't respond.

  • Very interesting to see other people doing machine knitting. Yer making me want to make longies now. Bet there's people who'd buy yer pattern

  • I'm actually working on making my pattern into a PDF as I type this, lol :)

  • I have no idea what a shortie is and I could not tell when finished what it was. I am not familiar with this machine. Some else mentioned a longie. Is it a sock of some sort?

  • Shorties are knit shorts and longies are knit pants. The reason you can't tell what they are at the end of the video is because I only made one half of a pair of shorts in the video, then after the video was done I took the two halves and seamed them together with yarn and a darning needle. Thanks for asking :)

  • lol i was thinking the same thing "what the hel is a shortie?!" lol i luckily thought to look down here. thanks though! :) im a traditional knitter on needles no fancy shmancy things like that.

  • Hi there! I know you won't give away any of your secret tricks, but I am intrigued by your "weighted hem." Is it purchased from a retailer of some sort or did you make it? It looks so easy to use! Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

  • The black hem thing that came with the machine kept ripping for me. So I just went to walmart and got some fleece and cut a strip, layed it on the machine bed to mark the needle spacing, then cut where I made the marks, then you have to sew two "pockets" to hold the weights that came with the machine. :)

  • I make longies on the bond too. I have a question about your pattern. I also use short rows but I haven't hit upon a perfect method or number of them. Are you pushing out just one needle at a time per short row or a few? How many total short rows are you doing?

  • I've made my own pattern that I follow, and I'm not in the habit of giving away my pattern, but if you play around a bit I'm surer you'll figure out something that works for you :)

  • The ball of yarn is actually in FRONT of the machine, on the floor off to the left side. I use one hand to move the carriage, and then other to bring the yarn up to the carriage.

  • where is the ball of yarn in front of the machine or the back of the machine?

  • That was so fun to watch, you make it look so easy :0) I'm hoping to try this at least once, since I now have pregnancy induced carpal tunnel and can't knit 2 stitches. Any pix of the final product? Thanks for sharing
