Can anybody save me some google research time and tell me what kinda' room they were in? I remember renting this and someone trapped them in there, but how was he planning to get out thru the skylight? Did he think he could've broken the window or just opened it? (I guess I need to rent this again.) I can't think of any other actor who could ever take the place of Paul Newman, not that I should even consider such a thing.)
Notice how Newman is coughing after being underwater for a stretch. Probably due to his heavy smoking. I think that's why i don't swim anymore. Too many years on the cancer sticks. I used to be a great swimmer too.
Thanks for posting. This is a favorite movie scene of mine. The part with the door is extremely improbable (either it would leak somewhat or not be able to be opened) and I'm not sure the room would take the pressure (maybe), but at least the rest of it all is technically spot-on. Some great film right here.
thanks for postin this drowning pool is one of my favorite lesser remembered movies of Paul's never mind the fact that it features a young Melaine Griffith as Iris's daughter
classic scene. Thanks. Btw, in the Ross McDonald novel, what happens is, the Paul Newman guy (Lew Archer) tries to fill up the room, to reach the skylight like in the movie, but the 100s of tons of water pressure bursts open the door long before it fills. That makes better sense than the movie scene. Aside from the convenient timing in this scene, there's no way the door bolt would have slid, with all the pressure on it. Still a thrilling scene though
That wasn't a very well thought out escape plan, was it? If the bad guys hadn't come along at just the right moment, those two would have drowned like rats.

My buddies and I snuck in to see this. His dad gave him money for the six of us as his 16th birthday present and he pocketed the money instead.
It was a great movie.........great memory!

Poo, this was on the other day here in GB, if I had known a scene like this was in it, I'd paid more attention to it - ah well.
