Wow you actually managed to make smoke balls interesting again! If you want something WEIRD try tossing one, lit in a bucket of water. Beware of clean up though, it makes a bit of a slimy film on the surface. Nice vids, though! Jumping jacks are my favorite of the ground type fireworks as well!
@ulillillia Ah man that's rough. It really depends on the day and mood i'm in though. Sometimes i'm just fine with mirrors and others I can't even walk in front of one. I feel like the image in the mirror will show me something that isn't happening in real life. For example I walk in front of a mirror but my reflection doesn't do what I am doing or I will see somebody in the mirror that isn't there. I guess that what I am afraid of... I believe my fear began when I was younger from a nightmare..
Hmm. In that case, you're about the same as me though in a different way. I don't have problems with seeing ghosts, etc. in the mirror when you otherwise can't. Regardless, no matter what mood I'm in, what time of day it is, etc, I cannot go in front of a mirror. I often get stuck taking long detours around areas with lots of mirrors or even having to wait in the vehicle (and yes, even then, I'm still very evasive with car mirrors).
White is considered at 255, 255, 255 in RGB and 0, 0, 1 in HSV. I don't know any of the other color spaces (like YUV2, YBrBr, etc.) so I can't indicate what white would be on these. What I meant is that it was very intense and supposedly white (likely a shade of gray, such as 191, 191, 191 (0, 0, 0.749 in HSV)).
@ulillillia Well according to nVidia it should be able to decode 1080p video for you. CoreAVC is a codec for windows which offloads the playback to the GPU and VLC is another media player application. Sadly though, neither would help with actually rendering the videos. If you upgrade to an i5 you should notice a very big difference there. The extra cores help a lot!
I'm upgrading not to the i5, but the i7-2600K which is even better. Being of the K type, I can overclock it which provides even further speed bonuses. CoreAVC must work with Virtual Dub or it's otherwise useless for me. I use VD because it's simple and easy to use and I have no need for advanced editing stuff (basic stuff like cropping, deleting frames, and swapping audio tracks is pretty much all I do). The only thing I don't like about VD is that it can't open MOV or M2TS files.
@ulillillia I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure CoreAVC is just for playback rather than compression. As for a good player, MPC-HC is just about one of the best ones out right now. Both of those are just for video playback rather than encoding though. There aren't that many lossless video codecs though and I'm not sure if VD supports any of them. FFV1, Huffyuv, Lagarith, MSU Lossless, SheerVideo are all lossless. H.264 is one of the best lossy ones, x264 being a popular one.
I have huffyuv, lagarith, and fastcodec and VD works with all 3 of them. What's the difference between H.264 and x264? Lossy codecs are only good for a final output, not for small tweaks or repeated reencoding.
@ulillillia x264 is just a form of H.264 compression. H.264 is of course one of the least lossy compression styles, so when you don't have an alternative it's good to go with one in that style.
When processing the video multiple times, you can preserve the quality by using lossless compression. When getting the final output, lossy compression then makes sense.
When determining a color, I use the HSV system. From there, I convert to RGB (I can also convert from RGB back to HSV). Red has a hue of 0 or 360 degrees. Yellow is 60, green is 120, cyan is 180, blue is 240, and magenta is 300. Orange is essentially 30.
I love your fireworks show, every one of 'em hehe, most people don't understand the satisfaction of burning things up or the joy of watching rockets blow up in the sky. Salutations from mexico, mate! :)
@FooledToaster i don't understand how you can have the audacity to mock this gentleman. you know nothing of his work, you know nothing of his psyche, and yet here you are berating him with senless tom foolery. you need to do some research on this young specimen, toaster... or should i call you a fool?
PSU's are only compatible with motherboards, processor doesnt matter, the only thing you need to be sure of is if it has the correct power connections
Sadly, there is no part 2. None of the nighttime stuff even came out (it's badly out of focus). I either need a different camcorder, or a faster computer. I'm split between the 2 right now.
I've been browsing Newegg and researching benchmarks for the last 4 hours. What the scores mean on PassMark, that I have no idea (there doesn't seem to be an explanation on what they mean). I've found a combination that seems pretty good. Pick an item on Newegg and replace the random-looking numbers at the end with N82E16813128482 for the motherboard ($80), N82E16820231189 for the RAM ($40), and N82E16819115072 for the CPU ($220). The scores hint to it only being 3 times faster....
That looks like a good setup. I don't use intel though, because AMD are cheaper and in my experience more reliable for things like overclocking. I don't think benchmark numbers themselves mean anything, but it's just a score given after various tests are done to rate performance.
N82E16819115070 - this processor seems even better. I don't overclock anything (I don't know how either). All I know is that there's a multiplier somewhere (likely in the BIOS), though changing that may cause problems with the motherboard or voltage. I do expect higher temps when overclocking though. Instead, I just use the stock settings. Like before, I may get my own dedicated fan though (since I doubt the LGA 775 fans are compatible with socket 1155).
The i7-2600k is an awesome processor for what youre doing, a bit expensive though. I decided to cancel my order and wait for AMD's new bulldozer which is coming out sometime in around a month or two. You can get some pretty nice fans for only around $25, so overclocking shouldn't be much of a problem if you do ever decide to do it. Also, when you overclock you usually DO change the voltage a little bit, but that shouldn't cause problems.
That's why I'm considering it. I do a lot of video processing and occasional song processing. Backup takes a few hours to run, and several other things. Games on the computer aren't my thing and what few I do play are not demanding (pinball, cards, etc.). It's the video processing that makes my need for a fast processing quite high which is where the i7-2600K processor comes in. As to overclocking, I have no idea how much a change is needed. 0.005 volts? 0.1? I'm just guessing.
@ulillillia Depends on how high you want to clock your processor. You can overclock a little bit without changing voltages, but if you want a higher OC to be stable you can change the voltage in small increments (I usually go in .05's) until it is stable. I usually go about .15 over or so. It really isnt that complicated of a process for such a big gain.
What, don't you know what a punk is? It's the tool used to light fireworks with. It's an object that burns very slowly, but also very hot. It's the high heat, easily 1000 Fahrenheit (it glows red orange if that's any hint), that lights the fuse.
What's the point of total replacement when all of my other related components still work fine? The CD/DVD writer works fine, the audio card works fine, the video card works fine, the power supply works fine, both hard drives work fine, the monitor works fine, everything does (I wouldn't be posting this video if my computer wasn't working). I could at least sell the previous components and use this money to upgrade my video card at some point (then sell my old video card as well).
@ulillillia Because if you replace the motherboard you mightaswell replace the whole thing. If you don't at least get a new video card then you will see some serious bottlenecking no matter what kind of processor you get. Also if your computer is old enough to have an AGP video card then you will be forced to get a new one because newer boards don't have AGP slots.
The GeForce 7600 GT is indeed behind (I'm seeing things 50 times more powerful), but it is PCI-express x16 at least so that isn't a problem. I just won't be able to make any use of the bonus features in PCI-express V2. I don't play games so the video card isn't as important. PM runs fine on my current system and could very well run fine on a Pentium 4 or even Pentium 3 processor with a Radeon 9000 type of video card (with at least 128 MB VRAM).
It's the 500-watt Antec Earthwatts powersupply. I doubt that I'd have to upgrade it if it's compatible with the i5 and i7 type of Intel processors. It's not compatible with AMD processors as far as I'm aware.
@ulillillia ATX Power Supplies are very compatiable. I am positive that your power supply should work if it has 24 pin ATX connector and a 4 pin CPU connector. I'm running an OCZ 500W Power Supply on my fairy power-hungry system. You should be fine if you choose to go AMD and I really hope you will, if you look on newegg, AMD's prices are much much lower than Intel
@Shugo489 According to a PSU calculator (outervision), my target setup has a minimum of 302 watts (from 270) so my 500 definitely has no problem with my intended upgrade. If I upgrade to the GeForce GTX 465 video card as I intended on earlier, I'll have to replace the power supply as the minimum is 528 (I'd go with a 600 or 700 in that case). I'm unlikely to upgrade the video card so my 2- to 3-year-old power supply should still be fine, at least until I upgrade my video card.
@ulillillia I still strongly recommend an AMD build, their parts are significantly cheaper than intel and nvidia. 500W is a fairly sturdy amount for what you were planning though, I think.
I think you should look into AMD motherboards, processors, and graphics cards. They are much much cheaper than intel and nvidia counterparts. The motherboard I bought was $45 shipped, the Phenom II 840 x4 3.2GHz quad core processor was $105, and the graphics card, AMD PowerColor 5770 was only about $140. The graphics card is fairly mid to high end though.

Depending on your GPU you may be able to offload the video playback to it. You might need something like CoreAVC or checking an option or two in VLC.
