Let's Play Hoyle's (Sierra style!) 3: I don't know how to play Cribbage

Any combo of cards that adds up to 15 gets 2 pts. Pairs get 2 pts, 3 of a kind = 6, 4 of a kind =12, runs (cards in order like 5-6-7) give you 1 pt for each card in the run. Flushes give you 4 when all 4 cards in your hand are the same suit and 5 when all 4 cards in your hand AND the card that gets turned up at the beginning are all the same suit. You add up your score and peg it. The dealer gets to add his/her hand score as well as any points placed in the crib that hand. First to 121 wins.

Ah - Cribbage is easy! Dealer changes back and forth each hand - dealer gets the "Crib". Each player discards 2 cards to the crib (good cards when it's yours, bad when it's your opponents). Then you take turns playing cards - you get 2 pts if you can get the total to add to exactly 15. The total can never exceed 31. If every card in your hand will put the total over 31, you say "Go", your opponent gets a point, and the count resets to 0. At the end of the hand you count up your pts.

I actually learned Cribbage before I learned Hearts (or Spades). Cribbage is like a cross between Blackjack and Rummy, sort of. I still don't get much strategy in Hearts. It also helps to have someone who knows how to play to teach you.

Cribbage is a fun game, a very fun game. Not too confusing after you get the hang of it, but I'm one of those people who looks at the game rules as a last resort, so early on I was owned pretty good by a good player.

shooting for the moon is basically a winning fail. If you shoot for the moon, it means you collected so much fail that it all collapses in on itself and turns into a fountain of win. Kind of like a black hole of fail.

I don't understand Cribbage either, so I was highly amused by the random "Fifteen!" and "Thirty-one!" It sounded like the rules of a made up game that a con artist plays to trick people out of their money.

Ok let me explain the point counting in cribbage...they both count while playing and in the cribbage totalling 15 = 2 points totalling 31 = 2 points two of the same = 2 points (ex: 2 3's in a row) three of the same = 6 points four of the same = 12 points a sequel of 3 = 3 points a sequel of 3+x = 3+x points the crib is where you give 4 cards to a player. These cards will add to your points at the end of the game. The flipped card adds to your points at the end of the play. That's the basic!

basic part 2 :

after passing the cards to the crib, one player splits the pack of card to reveal the extra card. There's something about jack giving you an extra point that I don't really remember (shame on me).

Then you toss cards taking turn, they add up in number. You can't go over 31...so if both parties has no card to stay under 31, they both say GO and the first one saying GO has 1 point and then the counter starts all over again.

Crabby is correct in the Hearts instance. Taking tricks doesn't hurt you unless there are hearts in the pack.

I learned how to play Cribbage by playing a Sierra / Hoyle release.

This is more enjoyable than I figured it'd be.

Nobs involves a Jack. There's always a card face side up in the crib. If that card is a jack, you get a point if the crib is yours. If it's any other card, and you have the jack of the suit that is displayed on the card that is face up, then you get nobs later on when the points are tallied up.
