  • I HAD THIS SURGEY DONE 2 TIMES, MY LIFE IS UNREAL, CHOKEING ALL THE TIME DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO,THEY DID NOT TELL ME THIS ONLY LAST 5 YRS, I STAY SICK,,IF I KNOW NOW WHAT THIS WOULD BE LIKE ,,I WOULD NEVER HAVE IT DONE,,WE NEED TO FILE A LAW SUITE TO STOP THIS TYPE OF SURGICAL PROCEDURE. SOME ONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO GET THIS FIXED..

  • I had this surgery on 9/18/09. Since then I've been chronically severely nausea's and not being able to vomit makes it even worse. I can't eat anything but chicken, noodles, rice, eggs and toast. It ruined my life.

  • I had this surgery done 3 weeks ago....still uncomfortable sleeping at night...eating is going well...getting ready to start eating normal again..I had this surgery done at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD...I only live 1 1/2 hours away from JHH. I have no heartburn, but I can't burp which stinks. One thing is you can't tell if you are hungry and you can't tell when you get full after eating. To this day, I only lost a little over 12 pounds. The surgeon made the wrap to last 50 years. WooHoo!!

  • I'm gonna have this surgery next month (05-28-10), but i'm scared now :( everything soahcalm says make me get worry, i wanna get better with this surgery not worse (T_T)

  • THIS SURGERY IS SERIOUS, it caused me to have dumping syndrom, gas bloat. has ruined my sex life, I cannot raise my arms up without my stomach empitying too early. causing low blood sugar. I used to be athletic and now I have to remain absolutly still and eat small meals all thruout the day. ive gained 60 lbs. and for them to reverse it they want to cut me wide open. splitting the abdominal muscles which never grow back causing the stomach to destind. ruined my life and im only 40

  • I had this surgery done when i was 19. it has been just over a year now, and seriously, getting this was the best thing ever besides not being able to drink carbonated things, eat dense foods no gum, no burping/puking. unfortunately i didn't listen to the doctors and drank/ate those things and now i think im going to have to get it again :(. but for you who aren't sure if you should or not. i highly reccomend it :) it hurts afterwards for acouple weeks, but its worth it in the end

  • HI i had this done nearly 16 months ago now and best thing i ever done even with the the pain and everything after it made my life all the better and can go out and enjoy thing that i could not before but the one prob now i have is that they think my op have come undone and mite have to have it again but i waiting to see my surgeon but i would have it done again it well worth it.

  • I had this surgery a couple of weeks ago and wow am I glad I didn't see this first.

And when they said no bread they meant it- of course I am totally craving everything that they told me not to eat so of course I am cheating- I had a slice of pizza this evening and I thought that it would be ok as long as I kept my apple juice at hand and ate small bites- here's a tip for all of you post ops- just about everything that gets stuck can be eased with WARM water-just shy of tea temp.

  • I had this procedure done 5 days ago via keyhole surgery. I have virtually no pain other than my small scares which hurt when coughing. I too cannot eat very much at the moment but have been asured that this willimprove within a week or two. If you are having a lot of problems with swallowing and eating in general then it may be because the esophagus has been tighten too much stopping most stuff from passing through, you may need to have this remedied by more surgery

  • This is great! Everyone should do it. Ask your doctor.

  • I also had this procedure done about 8 years ago and am very glad I did. The alternative (Barretts/cancer) is not a path I wanted to go down. The first few months were very tough eating-wise, but it eventually gets better. I'm getting some minor reflux now after 8 years, but very managageable- I will wait as long as I can before I have the procedure again as I don't really like the thought of surgery. If I had the choice to do it over I would not hesitate for a second...

  • You gotta chew your food very finely and swallow in little increments at first. You should really be eating soup, pudding, or jello. That's what did it for me and I lost massive pounds with it aswell. Recovery took about a month 1/2 to two months! I feel better now no more pain in my chest area, doesn't feel like someone is sitting on it anymore

  • going down half way right where the valve of your stomach opens which it did andi eventually threw it up same goes for bananas and every other thing you eat, chew and swallow just as if you ate normally. I found out the hard way!!!

  • I was 24 when I had this done! I had alot of burning sensation in my stomach as well as my esophagus lining, felt like my chest was caving in right by my sternum area no doctors could tell me what it was for 4 years until I had tests done. The recovery was hard for me I couldn't stand or walk for long periods of time, eating was especially harder!! I tried to eat salad which i thought to myself it was light , but my doctor said NO! cuz it could get stuck...

  • I had this done about 1998 as the second person every (as Lap) at John Hopkins in Baltimore MD. I was taking up to 4 Zantac 300 a day and could not even thnk about pizza and such, this surgery set me free from heart burn. I did have some of the problems people are talking about BUT hang in there, it will get better. As for the ones that say they are worse now, I am sorry to say but I feel it was the one that did it, NOT this type of surgery. They have done for years now GOOD LUCK.

  • I had this surgery 3 weeks ago and like simondsk I am having exactly he same experiences, I am having trouble keeping anything down , I am living on a diet of Quaver potato chips and soup.

I have lost 29lbs in the 3 weeks since the op and I sleep most of the day away, I am weak, still in pain, but fortunatly have had no acid reflux.

Think my recovery is gonna take a long time.

How are you doing now simondsk?

  • I had the surgery done a week and ago and what I am having such a hard dealing with the the massive pain swallowing food. I have resorted to baby food. That at times does not help. How long am I going get this pain? I need to keep up strength, but eating baby size amounts of food is not helping me. I am very weak all the time and I can barely walk around without my shortness of breath to kick in.

  • PLEASE keep checking with your doc. Tell them about the problems, MAKE them aware ! With ALL due respect to all of us here we can only tell you from our own results. Our body is not yours, our surgery was not yours, MAKE sure the doctor takes care of you or GO TO A DIFFERENT ONE! This is also for Curlyclarey too Good luck Take care.

  • I had the surgery done seven years ago by the board certified doctor in Kansas City that originally invented this surgery. It failed 18 months later. I am back on medication and will not do the surgery ever again unless I have no choice or in other words, medications no longer work.

  • Hey friend, I gotta say that I had this surgery done and I dont like it, its been about a year now and I wanted undone. Before the surgery I was drinking aloe juice and eating apples after every meal and it did wonders, but my doc reccomended this surgery and thats why I did it. I will not listen to everything a doc has to say for now on, I think they are full of shit. Try the aloe juice and apples and I hope they help you, Istarted to tell the difrence within a week.

  • I had this surgery done 141/2 years ago was in hell for two years eventually got better, but at 11 years it started to fail this year is really bad. I have some Barretts, so I was apparently refluxing before I was aware it had loosened. I wouldn't rush to have this again! It did get better and I had about five years where it was tolerable. I don't know how easy it is to do over.3

  • which medication are you taking up now?

I've been diagnosed with severe GERD and Omeprazole 40 mg twice a day is not really helping. The doctor suggested me to start taking antiacids.

  • I had mine done recently. I had some problems and they went back in again to loosen it. Did anyone else have this kind of trouble?

  • Im due to have this operation done very soon. Can you tell me how long you took to recover?and how much pain were you in afterwards?. What kind of diet did you eat during recovery?

  • EsophyX Incisionless Fundoplication is also available. but leaves no scars since it is done from the inside of body.

  • Please do tell what is that?

  • I had this surgery; haven't had a day of heartburn since I had the surgery in 2001! Best surgery ever after I developed GERD after my first pregnancy becuase the baby caused my stomach to herniate thorugh my diaphragm and it weakened my upper stomach sphincter. Only setback was when my fat cat jumped on my stomach 1 week after surgery.

  • Did you have a problem with swallowing? See comment from simondsk.
