Are these people in the show forgetting about the Nazis in ww2 ? Adolf made otherwise reasonable people to systematicaly kill over 11million people 6million of them Jews. Had the Nazis won the war the Nazis would have even more people killed.
@Animefan162a right, it is mainly anti-war in character, in fact i think the gamilons more resemble the japanese during the war. think about it, planet balan was "midway" from earth to gamilus, and even though the gamilons still possessed huge amounts of territory, the yamato struck at the heart, and the rest died...
The flashback was one of my favorite moments in Starblazers when I was watching this in the 80's. The depth of character development rivaled the best Sci-Fi of the time. I had read about many of the differences in the Yamato version but it's still great to actually see them. Thanks sute7899!

this scene doesn't make sense... why are they shocked he looks human? in a earlier episode Kodai fights 2 Gamilons on Titan..... they had no face masks,
exactly my point, Kodai is the one who freaks out!! he even tries to kill him when they take off his mask, kodai says "hes just like us" then freaks out.
@deadxenophobe Listen carefully, it is not Kodai's voice that says He's just like us, it was one of the other characters (his lips did not move if you noticed).
@Moose4975 dude i posted that shit over 2 years ago, lol i totally forgot how fucking amazing this show is, thanks for reminding me bc im gonna start watching it again tonight.
6:50: a brief glimpse at what appears to be a FLAT-PANEL television! In 1974! Hmmm... it's cool to see older sci-fi's when they guess right about future tech.
Kodai attacking the Gamilusian with a scalpel was cleverly edited-out of the "Starblazers" version. In it, he appeared to be simply charging at the prisoner bare-handed. This is of course more dramatic.
Susumu was angry that it was the same humans, not mindless machines or monsters, who carried out such horrible destruction upon the planet earth. His anger was toward the destruction capacity of humanity, not the individual prisoner here.
Well, one could theorize that the radiation had claimed so many by then that anyone with medical knowledge was vital to the cause of keeping humanity alive. Even veterinarians must have two years or more of basic medical training before their specialty.
Kodai and crew of the Yamato; what about the concentration camps in WWII?.... Read a freaking book, geesh!!

I really suspect the whole destruction, people suffering radiation sickness, lying in beds in any available building is alluding to the atomic bombs.

@pbanta62 Well, it's said to be 2192. So why not making the TVs that way?

still don't get why the vet is the ship doctor, are vets in japan in the 1970's also licensed medical doctors?

Nah.

Don't be ridiculous. I am Japanese and grew up here since 1960s. Never heard vets were licensed as medical doctors in 70s. lol.
I know that Reiji Matsumoto is fond of using vet as a doctor just to give it a soft touch in the serious story. That's all.
