  • Someone forgot to plug Edge´s guitar!

  • Please exclude German artists from now on. They recently declare war on every non-german. They love their murderer Grandpa and his ideology.

  • Wow, interesting piece if footage. They hadn't quite nailed it yet (Bono's guitar over the intro was a distraction for example). Check them out from June 87 (3 months later) for example. The jugernaut was unstoppable.

  • damn, i had just graduated from high school...

  • lovely gem of a song.

  • Bono looks delicious

  • man he was way beyond them . they grew into him.

  • Proud to be of Irish descent!

  • wow. just wow.

  • Dunno must have been difficult going up to Belfast back then I think they fucked up Pride at this session or at another session in Belfast this year

  • bono sounded great, its live and he jammed with the boys, cool, peace.

  • OLD TIMES..!!!!!!....

  • Great!

  • The Edge is a better singer than Bono is a guitarist.

  • bono needs to learn to play the guitar instead of winging it

  • Who turned off edge's guitar ?!?! Nobody can hear it.... :(

  • This was once upon a time people bands could sing live and sound amazing, just wish bono would put the guitar down or unplug it lol

  • If I was Edge, I would go to Bono and grab his guitar to play. Better for both parties.

  • I have to say the recorded version of this song is infinitely better than this.

  • was @ the gig then that night they done a signing @ 12might nite for the joshua tree

  • Besides that this is very good to see. This same video is posted in another place as 1986 .

  • Best Band ever

  • What about Adam Clayton? What a beautiful man!

  • Singing and playing guitar at the same time has always alluded Bongo!

  • I seems like quite some time since I saw this.

I have to say one thing.

Larry Mullen Jr. is amazing. There is no click track on this. No devices in his ears. A little overkill sound mix on the snare, but that is not his fault.

He is almost perfect on the beats per minute. That is no easy task.

  • OMFG you can hear Bono's guitar-playing

  • Heh... bad sound - typical for small venues like TV studios or small clubs. It's only natural - in a U2 gig they usually have a whole staff that sets everything perfect. Anyways, Bono's guitar sounds good indeed :)

  • i was 14 too when this came out. bono sounded great back then,, before the smoking killed his voice.. I seen some recent stuff today and he sounds bad. thats a shame..

  • hahahahha bono better stop killing his guitar

  • good old times when bono could sing

  • Let me love you true, let me rescue you

Let me lead you to where two roads meet

    O come back above

    Where there's only love

  • they seem to be playing it faster then the CD version!

  • amo a bono y esas guitarras tan guays

  • Go see and listen to "Exit" from the same show. That is even better, such a mindblowing performance.

  • I wanna run my fingers through Bono's lovely hair.

  • I was only 14 yrs old at the time but even then i knew that u2 was great!

  • they were probably worried that the acoustic wouldent be loud enough over the electric

  • perfect!!

  • Umm why is Bono's guitar louder than edge's? lol Okay, bad sound people. Still, this version rocks!!!!

  • what a gem this is!!! thank you for posting!!

  • bono e demais

  • Back when Bono had it going on

  • I love this song! Great video! Thanks for the upload!

  • bono is desperate to be a lead guitar on this song :D

  • @MarlboroEdit

I always feel Bono feels he´s totally crap on guitar and looks really confused when he has to play. Just look at With or Without You on Rattle and Hum, he keeps checking his hand in the light.

He doesn´t need it, he´s an amazing singer, but if you want to make a 4 man band without electronics like back then, you´re gonna need all you can get.

  • @MarlboroEdit Haha it's true :)

  • Wow, never knew this clip existed. And such good quality. Everyone getting ready for Letterman?

I'm glad Bruce and U2 are still around to remind everyone who their daddy is.

  • Wise words, brother! You're so right.

  • one of my favorite songs of them.

"...sleep comes like a drug, in gods Country..."

  • This unfortunately is when they last had the hunger, and drive.

  • WHAT? No it isn't! This is from their best period!

  • Thats what I meant. This was their heyday... up until Rattle and Hum. The Robbie Robertson solo album they played on was great too. U2 is still great, but they got to big to try to stay small. Opinions right? everybody got some

  • Belfast rules! I love that city.

  • One of the boys most underrated songs!

  • This is great, I love how raw it sounds, when I picture Bono I always go for 1986/87, he just looked amazing around this time. Bring back the bare chest and waistcoats with those lovely upper arms yummy! Apart from that the best band ever.

  • I agree! We are about the same age, the long hair those arms and chest and the boots! Many a dreams as a young one. He can put his boots under my bed any day!

  • This was the first public performance of any joshua tree material, Thats why the sound isnt that great as they were pretty much unrehersed. Remember watching this as a teenager on t.v. at the youth club.21 years seems like yesterday.

  • Great! but too much hair

  • Hi Bibien1,

Thanks for posting. This is incredible - do you have any more.

  • Bono is charismatic here. What a talented Irish lad he is.

  • this song reminds me of driving along the Mojave desert...good times.. U2 rules!

  • 10 front rows just sitting there? They deserve a fucking beating!!!

  • where's the bass? guitar sounds shit too

  • when they released this song i quickly felt in love with it... for me this is one of their bests songs... sounds really beautiful here... what a pitty not to have been there

  • Same here...in fact, it's my favorite U2 song.

  • It's a U.K. TV show called The Whistle Test. Was a showcase for Rock, Blues, Indie, Punk etc. through the 70s and 80s sadly missed too.

  • hey-its eddie vedder with a cold

  • You are a douche bag...Eddie Vedder couldn't carry Bono's dirty jock

  • damn...that is raw. You can't even hear Edge!

  • How were they playin in such a small place, they always need the biggest place available, whats up w the small place and his voice is not steady....

  • its a tv show dur

  • great song

  • cool

  • I've never heard this song live at a U2 show yet... I like how they cranked bono's acoustic up so high in the mix. I like it so much I went and covered this song on my page...

  • that place was called the whistle jest?

  • Love it.

First time I've actually heard Bono's guitar.

  • Now this is vintage. It's almost like a demo compared to the various subsequent live performances where the Edge really cranks up the pedal effects.

  • I wanna hear the Edge´s guitar!!! its ok anyway...

  • The first time indeed I thought...great song.

  • Love this song and one of the first times, if not the first time played to a live audience.
