Aby uwydatnić ten fakt nazwał król lokowane przez siebie w roku 1356 miasto Lwowem by nawiązać do tradycji tutejszych książąt, swoich poprzedników.
@tmulyk .Lwów was foundred by Ruriks because you stole these lands from Lendians and expelled local Polish people.Even your historian-Nestor wrote about it but Ukraine censors own historian. What's more Kazimierz the Great took it in legal way, because of the alliance with Bolesław Yuri II. Pre-war censuses showed the population was Polish and Catholic.Ortodox were only small minority.Ukrainians are just to lazy to move their ass and read sth more than bullshit propaganda.
Lwów wróci do Rzeczpospolitej ! Lechicka Ziemia Czerwieńska wróci do Polski !!!
I know how do Ukrainians feel like, when Poles want Lviv back. It could be similar to situation, when Ukrainians want Cracov. (I know, that it isn't true, but just imagine that). I really understand Ukrainians, and I'm ashamed for Poles. But it isn't fair, that Poland lost its most beautifull City, and one of the most important, especially if we fought for Lviv in second war, sacrificing ourselves. I know, that it probably never happen, but I'm Pole, and I just miss Lviv so much...

Poles who stayed in Ukraine have chosen to become part of the Ukrainian nation. Integration, assimilation, and mixed marriages are social forces that are helping Lviv become an important centre for the renaissance of the new Ukrainian culture and identity.
Lviv is so delightfully Ukrainian now, and is attracting a lot of new immigrants, who are helping redefine Lviv's postcolonial identity.
Poles are greatest minoriyty in Lwów and western ukraine where still live 300.000 Poles. Many people who declare ukrainian nationality are in fact Poles but during ukrainian ocupation they were forced to hide their real nationality. Ukrainian nationalism and chauvinism will never destroy Polish roots in Lwów and Polish ancestry of many inhabiitans of Lwów.
Poles are a tiny minority in Lviv, and in western Ukraine. so Lviv is not a Polish city no more than Bombay or Dublin are English cities. Halychina region is overwhelmingly Ukrainian. There is a lot of cultural integration going on. Polish colonialism and imperialism are ended in Ukraine as British imperialism is ended in Ireland and India.
Lviv is overwhelmingly Ukrainian now--over 80 percent of the population claims Ukrainian ethnic ancestry and Ukrainians of Russian ancestry are the next largest group.
Ukrainians of Polish, Jewish, Armenian or other ethnic ancestry are about 5 percent.
Ukrainians have chosen self-determination, sovereignty, and independence over Polish or Russian colonialism and imperialism.
@Bosirant Lwów is Stalins gift for soviet ukraine. You ukrainians should glorify Stalin your national hero. There are still 20.000 Poles in LWÓW. For example there are no germans in Wrocław. Poles who live in Lwów succesfully defended their Polish language tradition and religion. We have polish schools, local newspaper, scouts organisation "Orlęta Lwowskie". I know that you would like to see 100 % ukrainians in Lwów but it is only your sick imagination. We WERE we ARE and we WILL BE in LWÓW.
Lviv is at the heart of the Ukrainian cultural renaissance.--which was ruthlessly repressed by both fascist Poland and Bolshevik Russia. Many Ukrainians of Polish ancestry are active in building the new democratic and free Ukraine and have contributed to the remarkable transformation of Lviv into a beautifully culturally vibrant Ukrainian city.

Throughout the 1920s and 1930s Fascist "Pilsudski" Poland repressed Ukrainians by means of "pacification" pogroms, terror by the Polish police, denying Ukrainians access to proper health, medicine and education, exploiting Ukrainians ruthlessly, denying fair political representation, discrimination and racism.
Thus, when in 1939 fascist Poland fell to the Nazi Germany and Bolshevik Russia, there were few who mourned the collapse of the parasitic, repressive, colonial Polish regime

Vicious and ignorant Polish racist rants will not change the fact that Polish pre-1939 colonialism is finished. Lviv is overwhelmingly Ukrainian now and Ukrainians have civil and human rights and dignity they could never have under Polish fascism.
It is 2011 --not 1939.
Lviv has survived Austrian, Polish, German, and Russian imperialism and is now the centre of a Ukrainian cultural renaissance.
@Bosirant dignity? Shall I tell you what ur daughters are doin extremly well and for cheapiest price in Europe? 10-20 years and it will be over, like Yugoslavia.
@Bosirant Next noob, go back to your Kiev, Lvov was built by poles and it is polish under ukraine control, ukrainias can only ravage this beatiful polish city.

Ukrainians of Polish ancestry are proud of their Ukrainian citizenship as well as of their Polish ancestry. It's too bad they often experience ugly Polish xenophobia and racism when they visit Poland just because they are from Ukraine.
Today's Lviv is not only a Ukrainian city, however, but also at the heart of the 1990's Ukrainian independence movement and renaissance of Ukrainian culture.
Thousands of Lvivans traveled to Kiev to lead the Orange Revolution in 2004.
@Bosirant so its high time for them to travel back from were did they came to Lwow. How came in 1918 there was only 2% of ukrainians in Lwow? Move back, Germany and Stalin wont help you again, especialy that soon Wladimir Wladimirowicz hopefuly will finish it. And Lwow will be back to Poland, and its today inhabitants will move to work in Germany or UK, cuz we will give them EU shengen passports.
@Bosirant aha, Poles in Ukraine have no goverment subsidy for there cultural and education life. We pay for them. Its a breaking of international law. Besides on daily basis they do not admitt that they are Poles, cuz they are AFRAID. In todays Lwow its estimated that its somethin about 10% of Poles, still much more then Ukrainians ever in history till 1945.
Lviv is so much more fun now without racist Austro-Hungarian, Russian, German, Polish colonialism, fascism, and imperialism. Democracy, self-determination and sovereignty have been good for Ukraine.
Old 1930s and 1940s Polish fascism, chauvinism, racism, and Polish imperial mindset is not going to change the fact that Ukrainians of all ancestries, including Ukrainians of Polish ancestry, have rejected foreign colonialism and chosen to make independent Ukraine and Lviv their home.
@antyrezun i don't think that anymore, but catalonia (domined by spain/french/italy) ISN'T YOUR FUCKING BUSNIESS, do you find fun oppresing peoples right?
20.000 Poles in Lwów keep their Polish tradition culture and education. Empty anger of some ukrainians is the best proof and evidence that it is true. Long live POLISH LWÓW. Our Lwów always in our heart and mind. Our polish brothers in Lwów can always count on us.

Ukrainians of Polish ancestry in Lviv (formerly Lviv) are only about 1 percent of the population. Some racist Poles need to remember that this is not fascist Poland of 1939 --but democratic era Ukraine 2011.
Poles are no longer a significant minority in Lviv. There are at least a dozen Ukrainians of Russian ancestry for every Ukrainian of Polish ancestry now.
Ukrainians and Poles know that there are new challenges for both democracies, and that friendship and cooperation are the way to go.

Ukrainians of Polish ancestry are about 1 percent of Lviv...a tiny percentage.
Ukrainians of Russian ancestry are about 12 percent of the population of Lviv. Of course, Ukrainians of ethnic Ukrainian ancestry are the largest group in Lviv.
Again this year, many citizens of Lviv will be celebrating the memory of the heroic Ukrainian Insurgent Army and their role in keeping the dream of Ukrainian self-determination alive.
Ukrainians of Polish ancestry appreciate Ukraine as their own nation now. Now more than two generations have been integrating into the building of new Ukraine.
Happily, Ukraine is a nation that respects all Ukraine's citizens' heritages, including those of numerous immigrants into Lviv and Ukraine in general.
Most Poles left Ukraine to reunite with Poles in Poland after WWII. Those who stayed decided to help create the independent Ukrainian Republic. Lviv is an example of a Ukrainian city that has evolved continually since 1945 to become the predominant Ukrainian city it is now.

Happily 1930's Polish fascism and parasitic exploitation of Ukrainians is over. Now western Ukraine is Ukrainian. Ukrainians of Polish heritage only a tiny minority in Lviv.
@Bosirant Keep dreaming! Lwow will always will be stained with Polish patriotic blood. Ukrainians raped and hanged children! Most of them are still primitive, uneducated Kossacks! Face the truth!

Happily Polish racism against Ukrainians has backfired, and Lviv is a truly Ukrainian city where Ukrainians don't have to fear Polish Pilsudski fascists and thugs of the 1930's.

Lviv has never had more than 60% Polish occupants who forcefully settled there. Give me a single source that says otherwise. And I agree with you that everything is changeable :) But do you really want to change? I guess Germany would be very interested in your changing ideas ;))) Idiots like you lose independence and then cry like wussies when their soldiers are being killed. I hope there are not many dumb-bags like you in Poland.
Poland never officialy resigned from our right to POLISH LWÓW. Ukrainian forces never conquered this city. In 1945 Lwów inhabitans were 80% Poles. Accordingly to Stalins order Poles were forced to leave their homes and sent behind new border. Lwów was Stalins gift for Soviet Ukraine which do not exist so should return to legal Polish owners. Our task for today is to keep POLISH LWÓW in our mind and heart, help our brothers who still live there . It is not the end of history. It is changeable.

@Bosirant It is only your WISHFULL thinking. Now facts. Poles are significant minority in LWOW. We have there our schools, newspapers, football teams etc. Sure. In Poland we know that it makes ukrainians angry but their anger makes us happy and it is sign that we should continue our help for 20.000 Poles in Lwów, moreover I would say that it is sign ukrainians are really frightened. We also know that ukrainian nationalists from LWÓW will deny Poland there but we do not care about it tottaly.

Poles are only 1 percent of the population of Lviv (formerly Lwow) so they are not a significant minority in Lviv. Many Poles have assimilated, or integrated and intermarried with Ukrainians and Russians. Ukrainians of Polish ancestry are helping build the new democratic Ukraine.
@Bosirant There are lies, Big Lies and SOVIET UKRAINIAN STATISTC. Poles in LWÓW are 4% and it is almost 20.000 souls. Poles in LWÓW still keep their Polish tradition, culture and catholic religion. You will never change it. They have their schools and lately reactivated Polish football team POGOŃ LWÓW. You told "Poles assimiate integrate and intermarried with ukrainians". Sure this ukrainians soon will be Poles. Especially ukrainian girls are very good wifes for Poles. They learn Polish fast.
I respect Poland and its contribution to history and culture of Lviv. And we must be grateful for it. But Polish period in history of Lviv - is only a part of whole long city's history. So Lviv - ukrainin city - historicaly and in fact.
@MrVladimir2105 Remember that Polish period in Lwow history was between 1349-1793 and between 1919-1939. It is almost 400 years. Austro-Hungarian 1793-1919. It is almost 200 years. Soviet ukraine 1945-1990 almost 60 years. Ukraine 1990-till now. It is 20 years. So your, is historically only 20 years and in fact it is not the end of history. Who knows what will happen in future. We still remember about POLISH LWÓW. This true is in our mind and now it is the most important that we never forget .
@antyrezun And remember also that Lviv was founded by Danylo Romanovych - king of Galichina-Volhynia principality and in period between 1199—1349 Lviv was a city of Galichina-Volhynia principality (1272—1349 its capital). And even name of Lviv was given by Danylo in honor of his son - Lev. That fact that you built up many buildings in Lviv during polish period do not give you a right to call Lviv polish. History is a dispute. Now Lviv is ukrainian city populated by ukrainians.
@MrVladimir2105 So Germans were in 1945 punished for 1000 years of conquest old Polish lands. They also started II World War. Before german conquest Polish west borders were Odra and Nysa rivers. So Poland returned to its historical borders in west. Germans are now our good neighbours. Germany and Poland are together in EU and NATO. You ukrainians from western ukraine should glorify Stalin. Polish in 70% Lwów was Stalins gift for ukraine. In Lwow there are still 20.000 Poles. We remember.

@antyrezun I am from eastern Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk, and just recently bacame interested of complecated history of Galychyna. The most funny fact for me was that Lviv's football team, Pogon, was 4 times champion of Poland. It was so strange to realize it now.) I do not deny polish trace in history of Lviv, but it is also fact that Lviv was founded by Daniel I of Galicia (Danylo Galyc'kyi) and after that Lviv was CAPTURED by King of Poland - Kazimir.Soviet Union just took back rus' ethnic land.
@MrVladimir2105 Somethig what for you is funny like you sad, for us is very serious. Lately polish citizens of Lwów reaktivated Pogoń Lwów. Sure we can return to middle ages but than ukraine did not exist. Poland yes. The most importatant is situation after II WW when polish inhabitans of Lwów were by force put into rail and send to Poland and situation now when Lwów City Council want to destroy all signs of Poland in Lwów. You do not deny Polish trace in Lwów. Thanks. Lwow City Council deny.

@antyrezun I agree that Ukraine is comparely young country. Before, only previous states exist - Kievan Rus, state of Galicia-Volhynia, Malorossiya as a part of Russian empire, Soviet Ukraine as a part of USSR. But our people many centuries felt nesessity of creation our own state and fought ror its independence. And now, when we at last get it, we are not going to loose it. As for signs - if its really true - shame on Lviv's Counsil, because still it is city's history!
@MrVladimir2105 Unfortunetly you are in the minority of ukrainians who can discuss normally. I think that Polish and Ukrainian nations have very similiar character. I mean about sense of freedom and independence. It is the reason that historical conflicts between Poland and Ukraine are so deep. Remember Moscow rulers wait for occasion to do the same like in XVII century. You must understand that Lwów and polish eastern borderlands will be always in our heart and mind. We can not forsake it.
I będzie git.
You should lern history at first and at second write in language that people you writing to can understand, without searching help in google, or write in universal language(english).
The City of Lwów was given to Poland by the prince of Halicz in XII Century. Before II WW in Lwow lived over 60 precent polisch. Lwow was completly polisch city, biggest center cultural and science center in Poland
@jasioland Before telling someone to write in English learn it yourself, polisch scum. Lviv was given to you? ;) Did Ukrainians give it to you on Christmas? Come over to Lviv I'll give you a few history lessons and buy you a mug of beer to wash your degenerated brains.

Pre-war censuses showed the population was Polish and Catholic.Ortodox were only small minority.Ukrainians are just to lazy to move their ass and read sth more than bullshit propaganda.

@antyrezun And else. Lands of Polska was also conquested by Germany. So what? Have they right to tell that some of polish territory belongs to them?
MrVladimir2105 1 year ago

Yes, Danylo founded the city on the lands stolen from us by Vladimir I. Kazimir take the lands (our lands) as legal Bolesław Yuri II's heir.

@antyrezun Any way, I respect that polish people keep and defend their history. It is good quality of your nation.
MrVladimir2105 1 year ago
@MrVladimir2105 Unfortunetly you are in the minority of ukrainians who can discuss normally. I think that Polish and Ukrainian nations have very similiar character. I mean about sense of freedom and independence. It is the reason that historical conflicts between Poland and Ukraine are so deep. Remember Moscow rulers wait for occasion to do the same like in XVII century. You must understand that Lwów and polish eastern borderlands will be always in our heart and mind. We can not forsake it.

I będzie git.

The City of Lwów was given to Poland by the prince of Halicz in XII Century. Before II WW in Lwow lived over 60 precent polisch. Lwow was completly polisch city, biggest center cultural and science center in Poland
