Arnel was actually in a Jorney Tribute band in his home country. i saw on an interview they saw a youtube video of this guy, and agreed instantly to bring him to be part of the band. This guy got the chance of a lifetime. Im sitting here playing alot of cover songs in my band, but to get this chance, is 1 out of 4.6 Billion people. If anyone wants to hate, put in work 24/7/365 and u couldnt even become this guy. U couldnt even with $14.6 Trillion sitting in ur bank
Great vocals. I cant see where Journey has lost anything. Steve paid the dues, was great. It was his choice not to be there. Arnel is what they needed plus not quite as goofy looking...

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, so here are mine: Arnel Pineda is a great vocalist. Is it a coincidence that he and Steve Perry have very similar voices? Yes. Is it a coincidence that Journey chose Pineda? Probably not. But honestly, who cares? He is his own person, he has his own stage personality, and he has TALENT. I wish people would leave him to his work, and let his passion rouse the fans who are Journey supporters.
Honestly, who gives a shit if he IS just riding Steve Perry's coattails? He is an amazing singer, and it gives the people of my generation who never got a chance to see the original Journey line up in concert- a chance to do just that. @MrTommyheddenstomboy Just saw them in concert and they did "Wheel In The Sky" as part of their set. Arnel is just ridiculously good and takes total control of the stage. It's clearly evident that he has a blast being part of the group.
It finally hit me why I like Arnel so much. It's not just his voice, but he moves around the stage dancing, etc. like Mr. Average guy would. And that is what makes his appeal so strong to many of us average guys who dreamed of being up there also.

to be fair, if steve perry had never existed, Arnel would be getting a shitload more praise. But he's being compared to perhaps the most powerful singer in rock. Journey fans should check out early AC/DC (if they haven't)....the singer Bon Scott has a similar 'rough' voice, sounds amazing.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, so here are mine: Arnel Pineda is a great vocalist. Is it a coincidence that he and Steve Perry have very similar voices? Yes. Is it a coincidence that Journey chose Pineda? Probably not. But honestly, who cares? He is his own person, he has his own stage personality, and he has TALENT. I wish people would leave him to his work, and let his passion rouse the fans who are Journey supporters.

Honestly, who gives a shit if he IS just riding Steve Perry's coattails? He is an amazing singer, and it gives the people of my generation who never got a chance to see the original Journey line up in concert- a chance to do just that. Yes, he is impersonating a great vocal talent. But he's doing it well enough that he went from covering the songs in local bars, to touring worldwide. He may not be Steve Perry, but I must still say: Kudos to you and your success.

I bet if Arnel never sounded like Steve Perry , he would not be part of Journey. The spirit captured of Steve Perry by Arnel is the only thing that keeps Journey alive to this very day with the fans. Any other lead singer taking Steve's place with their own voice would surely end the lifespan of Journey as we know it. Arnel is only impersonating Steve & without Steve's impersonated voice , again , Journey would be nothing. Fans only listen to Arnel to hear Steve's voice come out of him.

I thought the whole idea of replacing Steve Perry with a new singer is to replace him with someone who has their own unique voice. I don't know why if Journey had differences with Steve Perry so much that they would want the replacement singer to sound like him. Arnel is just vocally masquerading as Steve. Arnel rides Steve's coattails.

It finally hit me why I like Arnel so much. It's not just his voice, but he moves around the stage dancing, etc. like Mr. Average guy would. And that is what makes his appeal so strong to many of us average guys who dreamed of being up there also.
