I only payed $300 to join. I am a member of this union. Their benefits are decent and you get a pension IF you work for a long long time. The dues are outrageous but its a labor union....people get hurt on the job, get back and joint problems, unable to work by their 50's...so yeah its an expensive union.

Of course there is no receipt. I could not believe this when I was told. The $1,000 didn't have to be paid up right away but payment installments were made after each pay cheque. Nice touch. Scamming an honest worker who wants to work but all the while squeezing a $1,000. Mr. P. should be reported on this matter as I'm sure there are more who have been fleeced. Shame on you Mr.P

Welfare? No. Unionization had nothing to do with that. What they did have a lot to do with is pensions, 401k, 40 hour work weeks, weekends without work, the safety standards held by OSHA, overtime pay, unemployment insurance, livable wages, etc.

All work that is considered "Laborers'" work is extremely hard, very dangerous and taxing on the body. Most people would not be able to hack it. And, they only get paid $24.03 to do that work (as per Local 310 Cleveland, Ohio)

If you look up hamilton local you will see the minimum is $17.75 per hour. But wait, thanks to a new landscaping agreement "landscapers" AKA glorified farm workers are exemppt from all kinds of things. WHen I hear figures like $23 an hour at overtime (60 hour weeks) id be living a life of luxury....seriously.
