I was actually coming back across, after driven over this same river 10 min earlier, but I went little upper to drive down stream, but I fell in a "well" and the engine shut of because of hydro lock... took water through intake... the car was dead and started to turn and slowly float down river...... I applyed brakes and the front end stared to dig in and that is why water is going over the hood but the car stopped and we were able to signal for help....

my sister swaped places with me and stood hard on the brake while I got on the roof.....then the savior came,,, the big white wan,,, The big white ford econline 350 is 49“ custom made in iceland.... orginal Grand Cherokee hooks at the front ... (there was nothing to tie at the rear!) and we were able to pull it out with the big white wan...... Krossá is not a light river to cross and there should be a experiance guide and a big monster like the big white wan along....

But when the car was out of the river and the door opened to let most of the water out from inside.... carped cleaned :) .... we took out the spark plugs... turned the engine and pumped the water out

until there was just gasoline coming out.... put the plugs back in and the good jeep started and I drove in to meet my friends... I actually modified this jeep to 5.9L engine and interior comlet with wiring so the water had no issues afterwards... and to get across nextime the jeep is in custom modification to get a lift and put 46“ tall tires... ;) so rivers should be less problem... I learned alot by this mistake and there was now harm to people or animal...

the jeep aint dead its just hydro locked which is an easy fix with a full set of sockets and a fully charged battery, all u do is pull her out pull all spark plugs and crank the motor 10 secs on 10 secs off so u dont smoke the starter then once nothin but gas comes out u put plugs in and drive away, done it many many times in my truck club, buy a damn snorkel its a jeep there cheap!!!

big mistake... with such a flow it's a big risk.

The driver should have entered the water upstream and drive downstream trying to go diagonally to reach the other side. Happy that nobody got hurt.

If not, then you're sadly mistaken as I've seen XJ Cherokees (1984-2001,) ZJ Grand Cherokees (1993-1998 [the subject of the video],) embarass the so-called 'real Jeeps' on challenging trails many times over the last 15 years or so.

Remember, underneath the bodies, the driveline is very similar to the CJs and YJs -two solid axles, similar transfer caases, etc., so their just as tough.

maggaelin: That is actually not correct. You need to cross this river (which is not usually this big) to get to Húsadalur. The most popular campingplace is Básar and you don't have to cross the river to get there.

And there is also a bridge that you can walk over so you can park your car near the river and walk to Húsadalur.

i believe they do. i know cherokees do (the XJ bodystyle). you can't see them from underneath because the drain plugs drain into the frame.

Thanks for the replys ! disel engine and an intake on the roof will not prevent strong current. This jeep went in the river about 300ft (100m) above the stopping point. the current in that glacier river is VERY strong and if the Jeep is not heavy / high enough it will catch all the current on its side.

Diesel engine with a snorkel and you master very deep water. Petrol engines dondt like deep water. Even with snorkel you have to much electric stuff getting wet. I'm not sure, but it looks like an Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, not an Cherokee. Great video dude!
