  • Hunter most of his career peered into and attempted to understand the viscious mentality of the American Society. In a world that called him a deviant and dope fiend the true fiends were those that threw stones at him instead of looking at themselves. Rest well Hunter..you don't have to deal with these swine any longer.

  • The people in the audience are the type that would look down an Hunter, call him an immoralist, in their suits and ties and short, neat hair. How ironic it is that they laugh when the Hell's Angel describes his friend beating his wife.

  • should have let hunter speak what the fuck

  • only a punk beat his wife and dog. GUTS, I would have gone back, but then again, I would have done that, knowing very well about honor and a call to duty. Beating a woman is still a fulltime sport in this country. FACTS are FACTS peole, dont kill the messenger please, I know cuz I was one that got beat. so now what? control, manipulate and dominate, always OVER< ABOVE < the WOMAN! It took guts to tell the asshat beating his wife, that it was wrong! no matter what is said, now or then, it's sad!

  • soooo trippy its like the twighlight zone. out of all those people Hunter s. thompson was the most reasonable and sane

  • biker gangs are a bunch of faggots.

  • Wow. It's hard to believe how much times have changed. I can't believe people were applauding domestic violence! A real man don't beat his wife. Hunter was the real man in this scenario. He stood his ground and took a beating for it. Then he was publicly ridiculed for it. He was right all along.

  • this shit pisses me off. this douchebag looks like a hero, what the fuck is the audience so happy about, most of them looked happy/and most of them were women. Hunter never got to tell his side of the story in the interview and thats fuckin bullshit, cause that douche kept cuttin him off

  • "To keep a woman in line, you have to beat her like a rug sometimes." Hunter says, "I agree." What's up with that?

  • "To keep a woman in line" ???!!!! This reminds me of why its important not to get carried away and romanticise a way of life just because its on the fringes of society.

  • 81 forever...

  • I love how the crowd just laughs as he says 'junkie george was beatin his wife' the irony, I feel like I'm watching a Hunter S Thompson bad trip, it's the American dream man! Lol ..?

  • obviously in these days the dog was the only one in his right mind!! LOL

  • As far as I see it in this video, back in the 60s, men used to talk about women getting beaten, everybody laughed and that's it. No one was mad. World, what the fuck happened?

  • @ScienceOfStupidity Dude, are you fucking nostalgic here?

  • @mellkiades

no, I was born in the 90s, it's just a conclusion

  • i would have liked to see joan baez's reaction to the wife beating

    stories

  • Good pro-domestic violence crowd they got there

  • Comment removed

  • Does that make Hunter a punk, because he certainly did his share of women beating. The hypocrisy.

  • Comment removed

  • I remember hearing about this show in high school. It was broadcast in 1967 and no one figured out how to set a DVR to record untill the 80's. The interweb is a wonderfull thing so glad Al Gore invented it.

  • is that joan baez at 4:22??

  • @ienjoyapples Absolutely, that is Joanie.

  • I wish hunter had a chance to tell his side fully.

  • i wish bitches from the view watch the female reactions in this

  • @shutthefuckuploser hahahahaha me too

  • Joan Baez in the crowd @ 4:22

  • @petev2k Her and Hunter were neighbors in Big Sur California in the early 60s

  • wow people are nuts i guess everyone there agrees with wifebeating

  • umm... I must've missed the part where the biker was "irate" in that clip. Either that or every discussion I've seen on tv talk shows has "irate" people in it. In the words of Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

  • Seems like that dog had a better sense of ethics than most of the people back then.

  • LOL! did she die? xD

The audience couldn't of been funnier.

  • Dick Laurent is dead.

  • Hunter Thompson was a punk, ya gotta realize this was the mid 60s, even on the Andy Griffith show they talked about giving a woman a "what for" I don't condone hitting a woman myself. But you know what they say 'women are like old Harleys, sometimes ya gotta kick em to get em going'

  • the good old days....pretty fucking bizarre man, if you would talk on a show about the fact that beating your wife is normal it would be a complete shock. obviously back in the day if you would react to someone beating his wife your a complete idiot and clown by the look of the reaction the audience gives. classic footage

  • Hunter T. was a scheme.

  • Hunter S. Thompson was so ahead of his time

  • a guy with a slang word for cocaine in his name sent me here

  • A man beating his wife and his dog is a punk.

  • Hunter Rocks!

  • @chilld180 wtf! I guess those pedophiles are correct no matter who tells them they are wrong.

  • @chilld180 You can't even write in proper english so it's no wonder you don't like Thompsons writing you dumb little cunt.

  • Man Hunter has huuuge balls. That's all i can say. He didn't even have to say his version and he comes out the better man.

  • the only thing Hunter Thompson showed the world

is what a bunch of cock sucking pussies the angels really are

and their colors and logo are a joke !

  • Wtf is wrong with this crowd. Hunter is just thinking this typifies the America he was writing about.

  • BULL+SHIT=

  • Wow the public even seemed to agree with this wife beating... even though there were lots of women in the crowd!

  • Great video, but I still don't understand what Hunter is saying.

  • so hunter is being attacked because he defended a woman and a dog getting beaten by some drugged down biker? and the crowd laughs and claps from this idiots statements?

I dont agree that the audience cheered because they disagreed or he was "stupid". they are just sick and find it funny that people explain it so openly.

Only a sick person would let that happen. Hunter is a damn hero for what he did, most of us wouldnt have dared to open their mouth with HA close.

  • the crowd laughs because of the sheer stupidity of this biker.

  • IT BLOWS my mind that all the people in the stands think that its a routine when the biker is saying "to keep your woman in line you have to beat her like a rug". Women and men laughing at that like it was staged or a joke when it was 100% real. Hunter is the man for sticking up for that lady (even though maybe he shouldnt have for whatever reasons). sucks that the tape ended before Hunter explained what happened lol..... Hells Angels are scum, always have been , always will be.

  • It's still true, only a punk beats his wife and dog.

  • @Mephistoplease Even more true if he beats his wife OR his dog.

  • Hunter Thompson was definitely on the losing end of this. Workman is hilarious.

  • @kuuzo youre obviously an idiot lol. low piece of trash just like the Angels are. Everything Workman said was pathetic to come out of a mans mouth. Hes not a man. Hunter is the man for a)sticking up for a woman he doesnt know (some piece of trash whore no doubt) and b) speaking 100% truth to that hells angels face.

  • @8vedder3 Hunter S. Thompson was a paragon of virtue.

  • This shit is absolutely bizarre.

  • @prod1gy3000 Everything about Hunter S. Thompson was absolutely bizarre. That is why we all loved him, and loathed him as much as we did.

  • @kinggarus

I think Hunter is pretty lucid here. There's something sickening about the audience.

  • @prod1gy3000

    Try living it

  • Oh God Hunter sure was beautiful!

  • i don't understand one word Hunter Thompson says :) Maybe if English were my first language

  • wow the audience's responses made this so surreal.....

  • Give me any gang member, one on one... Bitches!

  • its funny once read the book this biker makes total sense, its hilarious.

AS IF HE EVEN READ THE BOOK

  • Did he just compare beating a woman and beating a dog as on and the same?

  • Comment removed

  • Hunter S. Thompson once hit his wife. I guess he changed his view on it

  • Comment removed

  • I think both Hunter and the Hell's Angels were partly wrong. Probably Hunter did promise them 2 kegs of beer and didn't share any of the money at all he made from his book. But both versions of the story point to Junkie George beating his wife and dog which in any case Hunter did the right thing by calling him a punk.

  • Fucking weird reaction from the audience to the subject of wife beating, even if the biker is being funny.

  • @BizzyBoxx It was the sixties, back then a lot of women still thought it was best to take a clothesline to the neck if it meant keeping a man happy.

  • @BizzyBoxx remember the timeframe man, this was normal back in the day. Not saying it's right, but that's the product of the day. It's like saying "can't believe this person owned people" when watching a movie about slavery.

  • @BizzyBoxx different times back then man

  • @BizzyBoxx ahhh but ain't that America for you and me .....

  • that man was really upset about not having those two kegs of beer

  • I agree with Hunter S. Thompson with is comment about Junkie George that only a punk beats his wife and the animal he owns (he said his wife and dog but I agree with hunter on that completely)

  • I would have loved to have heard the rest of Hunter's side of the story

  • @maxthoeni read it from the book

  • The Godfather of Gonzo.

    R.I.P.H.S.T.

  • The Godfather of Gonzo.

    R.I.P.H.S.T.

  • you stupid fucking yanks! worst audience ever! you applaud a woman beater!!!

  • @fede018 I'm pretty sure this was on Canadian television.

  • @fede018 CBCtv is Canadian....but thanks for giving us yanks the credit.

  • if you notice the narrator says hunter was the 1st to compare them to the outlaws of the west, BUT i remember reading the hells angels book and hunter clearly says someone else mentioned them as the outlaws of the west and the angels even asked thompson in the book why he didnt write anything like that about them, and hunter even said in the book he also wondered why he didnt do that. get your facts striaght dumbass!

  • Comment removed

  • @Colspex nope

  • Who the fuck is this audience applauding beating women?

  • @resteep ....60's... best and worst of times in alot of ways..

  • Murph, what do you mean the mentally ill stick together?! That makes no sense. You didn't classify which mental illness, either, as if it matters. Are you saying manic depressives, catatonics, bipolar disorders and schizophrenics all purposefully mingle together? To inform you, they never have.

  • I honestly only believe Hunter agreed with the Skip idiot to get him the shut the fuck up. Obviously he doesn't believe in domestic abuse if he got beat up for it, to say any different would be idiotic. Yeah maybe he contradicted himself in a brief moment, but that doesn't mean at all that he meant it. The fact of the matter was he couldn't get a word in, and agreeing was the best thing he could do to atleast make his way to the point.

Regardless of anything, Hunter S Thompson is incredible

  • @NathanLocklin92

I think he was agreeing with the fact that "Junkie George" actually did beat his wife / girlfriend and then an argument ensued.

In the moment, it just came out like he was agreeing with domestic abuse.

  • UTTERLY ridiculous! Morons applauding a moron. Hunter didnt get the chance to get his point across. Laughter at the story of a man being beaten for trying to stop someone from beating his wife. messed up

  • i hope all the women in the crowd applauding when the guy said women need to be beat, well......got the shit beat out of them. one thing i was taught is a real man never hits a woman, and hunter gets laughed at for standing up and doing the right thing

  • @rhcpfrush91 One thing i was taught growing up when you are a guest and a full patch hells angel is beating his wife you prob should put it on your pay no mind list.

  • Hunter was a man's man. He stood up for what's right even at a time when it's not "cool". He knows he's not a tough guy, walks up to a hell's angel, spoke up about domestic abuse. Took his beating like a man.

  • Hunter sounds like a drugged-out Bing Crosby

  • what. how is beating your old lady justified. what kind of audience is this

  • wow you get laughed at, then one day everyone agrees. very sad.

  • Comment removed

  • look at all those stupid ppl laughing and clapping at what that shit said about beating a woman! wtf. so messed up.

  • sounded like hunter just agreed that you have to beat your wife like a rug from time to time to keep her in line - disappointed

  • @lenaseale08 he said i don't agree well i think that's what he said

  • @n2488 lets not kid ourselves :-/

  • @lenaseale08 oh ok

  • @lenaseale08 You make a fair point. Yes he said "I agree".

There was an awkward moment before he said "I agree". If you go further back at 5:18 he is the one who calls out the situation of domestic abuse in the first place. Then later to say "I agree" is a complete contradiction to what he actually called out. I only wonder why he called it out in the first place if he "agreed". Maybe he was high, intimidated by the other guy's presence, hot under the lights, it just seems a bit dumb.

  • @no7shark he made a point about one particularly rough domestic abuse case and then went on to agree that you need to beat you girl "like a rug" from time to time after the crowd clapped the hells angel guy

  • @lenaseale08 That's exactly why I'm so surprised at his contradiction, y'know. The contradiction again being as you yourself stated that he called out "one particularly rough domestic case". What I'm asking is - what state of mind was he in when he 'agreed' with the "like a rug" comment. Since when is beating somone "like a rug" any different to the actions he was himself was calling out / gesticulating at 5:40 These guys knew where he lived, he was scared, I can read it in his body language.

  • @no7shark yea he was scared but that doesn't mean you lie about your views. im sure theres a reason why he agreed yano, influenced by culture at the time, too scared to speak out or whatever but theres an excuse for everything! don't get me wrong i really love his work and he's got a great mind but the issue of domestic abuse always seems a little off with him

  • @lenaseale08 @ 4:30 he already got roughed up for his intevention at the actual scene. I imagine this shaped his opinions to the point where they placed him in an awkward position to the actual subjects he was recieved by. When you feel awkward and scared and you have something, like say other long term plans... Maybe just live another day, I don't know what his motivation was at that point, but it was obviously enough for him to visually and audibly betray himself.

  • @no7shark well i don't think we can make assumptions, to say that he "betrayed" himself is one. if words are anything to go by he does agree with domestic violence but if they aren't (esp given the circumstance) then thats an assumption too. its definitely a grey area. you watch gonzo:the life and works his ex wife speaks about calling the guards on him because he was so angry at one point and then you read the rum diary in which his character is sickened by domestic abuse.

  • @lenaseale08 For me 'betrayal' was just another word for 'contradict'. This and all that I have previously said are more that of an visual analysis with observations; than so as you deride 'assumptions'. He betrayed / contradicted himself: in essence i.e. the direct self-inflicted negative results of this are the same. Previously, I think I used the word 'contradict' so much, that I got tired of it. With your points on HST, this 'grey area' increases, it should, it's a topic you've made valid.

  • @no7shark compromised his beliefs...? :)

  • @lenaseale08 Yes 'compromise' is another way to look at it. :)

  • Hunter's a boss

  • That audience is like a bunch of sheeps, it's pathetic.

  • @DaZeDmerlin Its pathetic you pluralized sheep. Do you say fishes too?

  • @pureg0nz0 I'm not all that plur believe me.BTW how many languages do you speak or write?

  • He's the only smart one in the room

  • This is so friggin raw! :) Thanks for all of the influence. :)

  • Long live Hunter S. Thompson's memory. Both the interviewer and the dolt on the bike are moronic. The Hell's Angels were and are a bunch of ignorant, violent, misogynistic, racist, self-satisfied louts.

  • @anklebrambledom and we cant forget the idiot sunday showmen on harleys these days....

at least they have the same level of intelect and awareness of how sad and hilarious they really are

  • is that joan baez at 4:24 ?

  • @iHuglittlegirls Sure as hell looks like her.

  • They're actually called Hells Angels. No apostrophe.

  • 4:11 joan baez????

  • aint from Frisco I can guarentee that!

  • The guy is actually pissed about the two kegs of beer?

  • Bless Hunter, that wasnt very fair on him, at least he fought for whats right though

  • @MARMARR1 She has a lot more fans than that lol, I think its just cos people came to see Hunter on here and probably didnt realise it was her, or know who she is as obv her music is old now, possibly alot of people wont remember her and alot of people on here are young

  • Hero rip

  • No one has commented on how the camera shows Joan Baez as an audience member at 4:25

  • @dbbubba Click on "View all Comments" and then do a search on "Baez".

I was about to make the same comment as you, but I went to the trouble of checking first.

  • If you need a "gang" you are a coward

  • can't hate an ENTIRE biker club. there's footage of hell's angels hanging out with hippies, i met a few that live by me, respectful guys just don't fear them, theyre normal people. BUT thompson did what he does best. and that is freedom, so in a sense he's still showing lack of respect and honor to a bunch of guys with bikes and muscles and the authoritarian views they had: all for one, none for all

  • when the going gets tough

    the weird turn pro....

    bro ..it's getting nutz....

    bat country...

  • The useless banterings of a rhetorician hard at work, or valuable assets to a society that begs for wordsmithing? What, indeed, do we believe to be the true definition of the American Dream? Perhaps I have the answers, perhaps not. Either way, this topic is opened for discussion in my new video.

  • hunter was so far ahead of his time it unbeliveable, its ashame they cut him short before he could fully state his side of the story and his own eye witness account

  • I'm guessing atleast half the people in the audience thought this was a skit judging by the way they were laughing and clapping lol

  • they are laughing at this...??and cheering for that f''''n coward loser and his sad attempts at being funny...??

  • joan baez at 4:23.

  • reminds me of the the movie natural born killers at the start in mallory's house with all the canned laughter at Dangerfield's lines (her abusing father) ~ except this was real people laughing at this stuff. crazy!

  • Goddamn this is Hi-La-Ri-Ous. Seriously. I Miss Hunter, goddamn!

  • N this is the same generation that is creating our laws...the same generation abusing drugs and women,Im glad to see nobody condones that behavior...and the fact its on a major tv network broadcasting this ideaology is appaulling....hypocrite jackals

  • Holy that moderator did SH*T all to moderate... It's bad enough they had the HA member ride in on a motorcycle and then every time Hunter opened his mouth the HA guy cut him off... good one CBC..

  • I wonder where Junkie is now ??

  • the old bla bla bla

  • Hunter gots to be the f----- MAN.

  • "I'm gonna tell you my side"

    "But you weren't there"

  • personification of degenerates. hunter stood up to a drooling deranged pack of lions with nothing but his ego

  • Man! HA are such trash!

  • "to keep a woman in line you've gotta beat them like a rug once in a while"

    *applause*

    Cringe.

  • @sxxxhvampire The truly sad part of that, is how true it is. I dont like hitting woman and i dont, but with the way 98% of them act..they would deserve it if i did.

  • @sxxxhvampire just don't bark orders at a man, ask nicely & never belittle the superiority of his stature or girth & you have nothing to worry about ;)

  • @sxxxhvampire I'll rephrase that...just don't bark orders at a man, ask nicely & never belittle his stature or girth (esp if he's shorter or slimmer) & you have nothing to worry about ;)

  • Are the audience laughing at the biker or the fact that the biker is having ago at Hunter S.Thompson? Like theres points where i can see that the audience laughs at the biker or? fml i feel stupid.

  • Most if not all of these guys are simply mentally ill people that slipped through the cracks. It's typical for similar people to stick together. This is why we have Italian, Chinese etc communities. The mentally ill do the same. It gives a feeling of security.

  • No wonder hated the media and people..even in the 60's their ignorance was appealing. It would have drove any intelligent person mad. Hunter was a MAN and a damn good one at that.

  • this guy is a bad impression of hells angels. he gives them a bad name

  • @mccman101 He was one of the better ones.

They were and still are nothing but a bunch of scum.

  • This guy proved true almost all of what Hunter said in his book every time he opened his mouth.
