This is a pretty decent video, short time yet filled with the meat of it. It's true especially the part of theapist for managing thoughts better, shifting behaviors. I believe this is a key in help your child who has this disorder. As anything else maybe someone else has OCD to a lessor or higher degree...
i used to be mentally forced in to thinking evry time something i hate got inside my head i was forced to think things because if i didnt i was afraid that what was mentally torturing me inside my head would make me feel horrible about things that arent true it happened repetativly all day evry day it drove me crazy it made me do stupid things like me worrying about not being my self and looking at my self in the mirror untill one day a few months ago i stopped and realized it doesnt efect me
i have ocd :( and yes death i have once almost killed myself and i stress alot and because of my ocd I WILL NOT TAKE MED i juust can't and iwanna die and start my live normal:(
I read in an article that people with severe OCD can take drugs. If a person is doing well enough with just doctors visits than there is no need to take meds.
Thank you for the tips. My son is suffering at the tender age of 4 and we have been debating back and forth if we should just see if he outgrows it, since he is so young, but...we now know we should seek professional advice, regardless of his age. Thanks
thank you for sharing. i was just told my 9 year old has OCD w/tics. when things get tough....homework, videos games, arguing...things just go crazy for him. now i can try to limit the arguing on my end if that's what could make things hard for him. it makes scence now. so thank you!
So he has tics? Did your son by any chance have many cases of strep throat or one particularly bad one? I'm just curious because at exactly the age nine I had a nasty case of strep throat where I developed something called PANDAS it's basically OCD with tics. If this is the case, he can be put on certain medications to stop the tics and strep throat from coming back and ultimately making things worse.
He did have strep before i believe but what sticks out in my mind is the ear infections.....4/5 before he was 5...he had really bad allergies and post nasel drip that was year round. it has subsided w/i the last year and a half since we moved into our house. he may have been allergic to cats i think.
Probably in adolescence the tics will go away, but the OCD will worsen or stay. I hope he's seeking help. I can't even describe how awful that was for me. If you need to talk about it, I'm here, just message me.
i'm seeing a neurologist next week re: an aspergers possibility. he'll also talk to me about the OCD diagnosis from the psychologist we saw a few months ago.
someone on FB posted on an OCD group about "bad thought " ocd. is that like when he won't play outside bc he thinks he's going to get kidnapped??
There's a possibility that's definitely an intrusive or obsessive thought. I know I have one that hinders my sleeping because I think a man is going to get me. If he's avoiding certain things because of irrational thoughts or compulsively doing strange things that's a big part of OCD. I'm glad you're going to talk to someone though. OCD is a nasty disorder, but with enough support and effort anyone can overcome it.
@MargarettRose yes i believe so my sons therapist told me this is absoutely true...of course some peoples gets so out of hand that they cant function...no one should be reluctant or ashamed to seek help..problems make us human and we all have them and sometimes we need help
Read Explaining colours to a blind man. Not only will it enlighten many as to what living with a mental illness is like, it also gives comfort to those sufferers who think there is no hope and that they are alone. It is very informative, sometimes shocking but also very funny in parts. All in all, a good read and highly recommended.
