If anyone accualy looks at the rule book, If a goaltender throws his stick during a shootout, a goal will be given to the non-offending team. Stop complaining.
this shit is always called on the maple leafs and the lightning. the NHL just picks a team and makes them be apsolutly horrible. but this its diffent im chearing for the leafs and the lightning
@99r99rng no if u look really close u can see he was going to through it.... but he did not he shifted his arm in front and he did not even touch the puck with his stick
FREEZE at :51. The stick is NOT in his hand, and Hejduk has not finished his shot yet. You can clearly see that his blocker hand is EMPTY. There is no stick in it.
@jackavsfan The rule is he has to throw his stick at the puck. Now, in this situation it is the refs judgement wither or not he threw the stick. Tough call but probably shouldn't have been called a goal.
@ghockeygoalie Rule 25.4, Violations During the Shot: "...The goalkeeper may attempt to stop the puck in any manner, except by throwing his stick or any object, or by dislodging the goal, in which case a goal shall be awarded..." NOWHERE in there does it say the stick has to be thrown at the puck. Either way, it's null because whether or not Smith meant to let go of that stick, it went in the direction of the puck and may well have hit it.
@KADooDLE45 doesn't matter whether he dropped it or threw it, he let go of his stick. And it doesn't matter when the stick hits the ice; it matters when it leaves his hand.
Since you cant award a goal if you have no visual or conclusive evidence that the puck crossed the line then you should not be able to award a goal if you are not sure the goalie threw his stick or not because you can tell plain as day that he didn't throw his stick. If this is the case they should make it.. the goalie loses his stick so we award the other team the goal... Sorry goalies... guess just try to hold on to your sticks
NO GOAL!!!! Right after the puck is shot the goalie saves it from going in and the impact of the puck hitting the blocker made the stick slip out......thats a bs call
Yeah I'm a huge avalanche fan, and even I agree....that's a pretty bs call, like some of you have said, at the very least they should have had a reshot.
even IF he would have "thrown" his stick ... the puck never went in the net ...... so instead of giving the opposition a goal for not even getting the puck in the net on a contraversial save , retake the fuckin shot , don't give them a free goal.....
The puck does not have to come in contact with the stick for it to count as a thrown stick penalty. However the goalie is responsible for his stick and must keep it in his hand. Even if the throw was un-intentional. Many players have kicked pucks in while trying to bank the puck off their skates and missed their stick by an inch or two. Those goals are also no goals even know the intention was there. See it is lees about did he drop or throw and more about was it a dropping or throwing motion.
ya really im not even a tampa bay fan, but the sure as hell was NO GOAL, he lost the stick after the save was made, he slipped and that made him lose it.
I went to that game! I was so mad that they can't give the Lightning a chance. Smith totally saved that one and he DROPPED his stick, he didn't THROW IT on purpose.
its 1 thing to not be able to win a game in overtime or a shootout its another thing to just give the fuckin game to the other team thats deffinately the worst call i have seen a long time
The goalkeeper must remain in his crease until the player taking the penalty shot has touched the puck and in the event of violation of this Rule or any foul committed by a goalkeeper, the Referee shall allow the shot to be taken and if the shot fails, he shall permit the penalty shot to be taken over again.
The goalkeeper may attempt to stop the shot in any manner except by throwing his stick or any object, in which case a goal shall be awarded.
refs r always stupid. in my last game the other team ran into my goalie 3x & all of them resulted in goals. the refs didnt call the goalie interference every time. + there were other crap calls.
no its not dumbass, if your stick is thrown in the direction of the puck carrier in an attempt to check the puck away from him, then your awarded a penalty shot... if the same thing happens from a goaltenders perspective, then you're awarded a goal... that was no thrown stick, whether the puck hit the stick or not. it was a bullshit call, and shouldnt have been awarded a goal.
hits the butt of the stick after it was dropped/thrown so sorry... the right call was made
