ZX Spectrum: Afterburner

Afterburner was a good shooter, especially when it came out back in like '87, and this was a pretty good conversion of it. Better than Thunderblade and Double Dragon converstions anyway! Those 2 were utter fucking turds!!!

How come the MSX-1 version of Afterburner looks exactly the same?? Played that one a lot; my brother bought the game on tape back then. We were expecting something more colorfull on the MSX though and played it in the arcade so: big disappointment... But I rather liked the gameplay and the game has pretty good detail in the planes and so. Plus the multiload wasn't bad. :))

That's because afterburner is a shite game, period, no matter which platform you play it on. Like Sega's Space Harrier, it was a game largely sold on it's hydraulic cabinet.

Spec Afterburner largely goes a good job of capturing the spirit of the arcade. It's not the Spec's fault that there's little spirit to speak of.

Better than the arcade. Did you know that completion of AfterBurner on the speccy passed for a flying license? That's how fucking REAL it was.

how many cassettes does it have! it must have a huge loading process...is it new or old?

at it's age, u have to load the main program(zzz...zzz), turn cassette upside down and then after one minute or less u have one or two rounds(and then more). The main problem was if you die almost finishing the game u have to rewind all the tape, even if you had 128k Spectrum(like i had)

There's a Speccy game call Us navy (one of the last game published by Ocean) that u have to wait up to 15 minutes. There was a counter telling the time for finishing!!

all my games/tapes are all rusty...I have to rewind a bit every 2 minutes..for it to work...it takes 15-20 minutes to load frogger..ahah

I used to play the Amstrad CPC version quite a bit. Similar - as it shared game code, but with superior visuals, and slightly better sound if I remember correctly...
