You know in XP you can tile windows? Ctrl-click as many windows as you like in the task-bar and you can neatly arrange them horizontally or vertically side by side.
Is the code for that solution available somewhere? It looks lovely, since I started playing with Haiku, I felt the tab-like captions were lacking something, and when I encountered this video, I knew that was it! I'd love to be able to use it, and maybe tweak a bit more...
Why use the taskbar to switch between the two windows when using Microsoft Windows? Why not use Alt + Tab to switch between the windows thus avoiding the need to remove one hand away from the keyboard and on to the mouse. The Alt + Tab sequence has been in MS Windows for ages. And don't forget about it's counterpart Alt + Shift + Tab. The overuse of the mouse is a real disappointment nowadays when dealing with GUIs. The keyboard interface is even neglected in various software. What a shame.
The video starts with the claim that the windows taskbar is a painful way to toggle between windows and that windows shouldn't really float on top of each other and then you spend the last 2 minutes of the video talking about a feature called stack which is where essentially one window can only be used at a time.
The problem you demonstrated is very effectively solved with what are called "Tiling Window Managers" in my opinion. I suggest you check them out
Most tiling window managers dont allow you to move your windows freely around the screen, so you are stuck with the layout the window manager gives you. This solution built on haiku allows you to choose between tiling or floating windows or both. Using stacking with tiling allows you to use more than one window at a time, depends how lay out your window.
pretty cool! a sugestion add a doc or taskbar next version

I think Haiku and React have potential.
The name Haiku could change to a name that's more simple to remember.
BeOs was easy to remember.
Just wish they would get out of Alpha.
Their definitely better than any Linux or Unix, I've seen.

@CrewRite "Haiku" is hard to remember? It's one, simple word.

@EmilAhlback
Sometimes I Mis-Spell Haiku, its just one of those words that can be spelled different ways, because of its pronunciation.
If you speak a different language, maybe its easier to remember.

Is it too much to ask to have xmonad usable with a mouse?

I love the windows merging and tabbing, it looks like a really good improvement! Is this going to be in Haiku mainline?
