I wouldn't even drive with my grandafther in his 70s. Stop saying Jimmy was a hero. He wasn't even awake and footage proves it. Honestly, who lets someone short of 80 years old fly at 500 mph? He was no hero. Smart is knowing when to quit. And that photo of him? when was that taken? In 1977 outside of Studio 54? The only joystick he was pulling on was his own. Rest in Pieces. I know he had blue eyes--one blew left, the other right.

@cypher988 I have not seen that photo, and even if it is an actual photo there are a few reasons why a pilot might not be visible, bad camera angle, he blacked out, etc. But lets assume for a second there was no pilot, sort of like those black helicopters, the death of several people was not staged. Unless of course you mean they were killed on purpose. If that is the case and you have cracked the secret, you better run because black helicopters are coming for you.

@jollydwarf Freak accidents happen. It's not any spectator's fault that they were party to such a circumstance. This wasn't an airshow but an air race and these planes can't reach anywhere near mach speeds. I would guess the risks are similar but airshow crashes occur usually away from spectators. This plane could have just as easily gone into a house three miles away.

I imagine that this will be cause to place more restrictions on proximity of spectators, or aircraft inspection at air races.
